EDIT: Is there really such a rule that 3 types of triples cannot appear twice each in any possible combination? If such a rule exists, that is terribly stupid. I agree with the rule about requiring the second triple of a type to be in combination, and only two maximum, but limiting the number of types that can appear twice is too restrictive.

Actually, if that really is a rule, it is the main reason ladies only do 7 triples to begin with, because they only know 5 types.

EDIT 2: Ok, I see what you are talking about, incredibly dumb rule.

Rule 512.2
Of all the triple and quadruple jumps only two (2) can be repeated and these repetitions must be in either a jump-combination or in a jump seq

But I agree with everyone that there is nothing wrong with the 3F-3Lo.

I maybe incredibly weird for liking it so much... but your avatar is quite possibly my favorite picture of her. So bittersweet.

I just rewatched her 2013 SA performance. Different choreography than her Saitama masterpiece, but beautiful nonetheless.

Got emotional for some reason, but that's the power of Mao's skating I guess. :)

What is this I hear about Mao hosting her own radio show?

Yes, she is DJ-ing a weekly radio program from beginning of March to end of June. She will be interviewing young people of her generation about their lives, and giving advice where she can. I think it will be good for her to have the opportunity to meet people of her age that are from different walks of life. Her whole life, after all, has been devoted to figureskating and I do think that she feels isolated from society at times.

Mao is so pretty in this photo :

Thank you

Thanks for the information hurrah about Mao being a radio host and for responding to my question about the pictures gravy and yhma fan. It looks like her Sochi photos with redemptive tears have taken the lead. I think Mao will be a great radio host. rosewood at fsuniverse said that Mao had received a lot of positive responses appearing on radio shows last spring and that one of Mao's sponsors, Sumitomo Insurance, offered her to have her own radio show once a week on Sunday for 30 minutes from March to June. Mao even sings in the show really well.

I love the two photos I posted below because they both show how Mao can be really intense, dramatic and flashy, in addition to displaying ethereal softness and delicate sensitivity with the Sochi LP displaying both, and it shows how Bells of Moscow paved the way for this "intense," fighter or samurai side of Mao with its smoldering tension and desperation. In each, there is an expression of bold determination that really captivates the audience. This comes through in her comments after her victory at Worlds in 2010.

"I didn't think I would be sitting here,"
"I had to continue to challenge myself and push myself to try the triple Axel. The spirit of challenge has helped me to get where I was today."
"I've done perfectly in both long and short program. I'm satisfied with this competition and it is a relief after the Olympic Games."

It's not a dumb rule. It gives an advantage to skaters who can jump all types of jumps and penalizes those who cannot. Without it everyone would be doing 7/8 triple programs. Mao is probably better off doing a 7 triple, 2 double axel program to maximize points since of the flutzing.

That's great! I'm happy to hear she's keeping busy. This is really motivating me to learn more Japanese. One day I'll understand all my favorite skaters! XD

does anyone know if she has the control to play the music that she likes? I would love to know what kind of genres she bops around with and who her fave singers are

Yeah, the reason Mao is the only person who can do 8 triples is because she has the triple axel. Taking out the rule would allow a bunch of people to do 8 triples, which isn't fair.

I so wish Mao could get her flutz down to a !... But seven triples with a 3A is still very competitive, and remains harder than anyone else's layout even without a (f)lutz.

Thanks everyone for the links ♥

Mao is known as a big Dreams Come True fan. The pop band is the one of Huge names in Japan.
Their song “AGAIN” is known as a Mao’s rooters' song.
Because Miwa Yoshida the vocalist from the band, was inspired by Mao’s achievement at Sochi.
And then she wrote the lyric while thinking of her.
I would love to see Mao skates to the song one day

[AGAIN] (forgive for my roughly and loosely translation:slink:)

When you were troubled alone, when you couldn’t do anything
We all know, you have overcome them, did your absolute best that you could
Lost to wind, cried to rain, got up whenever fell down ,and then, you stood there

Once again, the way you are now, those tears, overcame the trial
Once again, the way you are now, that radiant smile with no regrets
AGAIN

In those days, there were only innocence and fun
You are many times stronger now, even when you lose the way, but steady progress
The state when you face the storm, all that silence-tears

Just as you are, the way you are, impress us, we are with you
Just as you are, the way you are, the timeless moment that made us filled with impressions

Once again, the way you are now, those tears, overcame the trial
Once again, the way you are now, that radiant smile with no regrets
AGAIN

Edit : To Japanese speakers, please correct me if I am wrong. I will appreciate for that :)
Edit 2 : I just corrected two places of my translation.
