Jason Brown

Welcome Cherika! And thanks for your thoughts!

I should clarify that I didn't assume that all Russian skating fans of Jason also liked Plusehnko, but I guess I was curious whether there were similarities in the two and that might have factored in SOME fans. In any case, it's great that Jason has such a strong fan base over there!

Someone just posted a bunch of super cute photos of Jason from a few years ago, since it's Thursday, let's throw back!

The "sprinkler" looks a lot less corny. In fact, this photo makes me to say "Hollar!": (Blame the Super Bowl. :) )
Thanks for sharing these photos. You can see the charisma and showmanship even at a young age from these pictures.

Thanks Mrs. P. Also like the comment on the "Hollar" tumblr:
"OMG. ITS THE RIVERDANCING FIGURESKATER. HE’S BACK. OMG. WHERE IS THIS VIDEO? I WANNA SEE WHAT HE DID THIS TIME."
I think this commenter will be more impressed with Juke than with T&I. ;)

Thanks for explanation, Mrs. P! I understand now. Well, I agree, maybe some fans like them both because they have something in common. At the same time I guess that the situation when a fan loves only one skater and ignores the others is extremely rare. I mean, when you appreciate good, technically strong and artistic skating you may like many remarkable athletes, not only Jason or Evgeny. As for me, I prefer Jason :) Evgeny has better technique without doubt, but, in my opinion, Jason is stronger artistically (and he still has years to improve his skills).

Evgeni was my first skating love. I love him still! He is wonderful - he has that regal command of the ice that no-one else has.

Evgeni likes Jason's skating too :) I might have melted into a little puddle when I heard that he was one of us, adding views to the Riverdance video!

Tossing this one for TMC, since it includes one of her fave Dance couples as well!

🇰🇷 #TBT to skiing in Korea with these 2 in 2011!! Can't wait to go back next week!! @StasiaRose @ColinJMcManus 🇰🇷

(2011 Junior Worlds was in South Korea, in a town called Gangneung (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gangneung). The town is actually close to Pyeongchang, site of the 2018 Olympics (and will house several Olympic facilities including the one for figure skating), so certainly skiing was a viable option over there).

4CC is in Seoul this time around.

Thank you

I've had a horrible 16-hour work day and only came here for a second before bed, this was a nice surprise

Without wanting to sound like a broken record or a Negative Nelly, I really, really, REALLY hope that Jason and his team sit down over the off-season and review his costuming. Maybe someone in the USFSA needs to have a word with them too.

I hate to keep coming back to his costumes, but I'm kind of addicted to watching the medal ceremony and every time I do again the contrast is just so huge; Adam, Josh and Max all look elegant, well-put together, mature and, well...championlike. Whereas Jason looks like he raided the post-Halloween sales at the cheapy shops. Maybe what struck me most was how much older Josh looked than Jason even though he's actually younger, though I'm still not sure that wasn't also a function of the little wispy beard thing he's got going on.

My little rant for the evening.

Is it too early to start wondering what Jason will skate to next year? :p

I really think it's a case of a YMMV. While I don't love Jason's costumes this season, I don't think they look terrible or anything. His Juke costume, in particular, actually looks pretty good. Photos and videos don't do it justice I think.

The pants are actually pretty well tailored to his slim frame and while people had tried to make a big deal about the sequins, I think on a second look it doesn't seem that blingy. And what I do love is the bright cobalt blue shirt. Blue is my favorite color, so that may have contributed to my warning up to it, but it's nice to see a nice bright color.

I do realize you're talking about the FS costume, which I don't like as much. And I guess I could buy the argument that he doesn't look "champion like" but considering what he's skating too, is he supposed to? ;) I mean he's skating a piece based on a medieval romantic tale that ends in death!

And actually in photos the costume actually looks OK, like in this one of him doing a spilt jump. (http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/n...-mens-free-skate-program-news-photo/462174426) Looking at that photo, everything actually looks pretty well-fitted -- I remember the pants looked really baggy at the beginning of the season. (And slightly OT to this topic -- it's a really awesome photo---it's such a nice moment).

ETA: Worth comparing this photo from Skate America (http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/n...-free-skating-during-the-news-photo/457867378), Rostelecom Cup (http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/n...es-skates-in-the-menfree-news-photo/459043288) and Nationals (http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/n...-mens-free-skate-program-news-photo/462174484). The pants definitely got adjusted and looked more fitted as the season went on.

FWIW, Nick Verreos actually liked both costumes (and he wasn't complimentary to everyone):http://nickverrreos.blogspot.com/2015/01/ice-style2015-prudential-us-figure.html

Jason Brown of the USA--Short Program to"Juke" by Little Walter: Jazzy, sassy and rock-and-roll fab! That's about all I can say: good job on this look. Love the slim great fitting pants, the suspenders and cobalt colored studded sleeve cuff and collar shirt. Oh and if that wasn't enough, there was a silver chain from the belt loop to the pocket. Nothing was left out of this costume in terms of details.

Jason Brown: Free Skate to "Tristan and Iseult" by Maxime Rodriguez--Jason went full-on costume for his Free Skate. This costume paid homage to the famous medieval romantic tale of "Tristan & Isolde". The setting is understood to be Great Britain during the Dark Ages and after the fall of the Roman Empire. Jason's costume certainly gives hints of the medieval romantic male lead (Tristan). While many may think it was A LOT, I actually liked the one shoulder sequined panel over the blouse, the chocolate leather cummerbund and matching covered boots. I love it when a MALE skater goes for it 110% and does it right!

Tl;dr: I guess I don't see a need for an intervention. Maybe if the costumes were impacting his PCS scores, but I don't think that's the case.

Now that Kevin Reynolds sadly is out for the season, I think Jason should just use his Zelda costume that we sadly only got to see at Skate Canada Autumn Classic. It actually has some similarities and would actually work for T&I rather well. I really like it other than the neck being a bit busy. I think Kevins legs and boots look much better. I also like the hits of silver armor on the shirt. I do like Jason's one shoulder green though. So maybe take Kevin's shirt, put the silver armor over Kevin's green, but only on one shoulder and minus the neck frill. Then just keep Kevin's bottom. I think that would work really well. I do like Jason's deeper green shade though.

Yes, medieval and romantic and tragic. So simplicity might have been a go. Dark pants with his usual bootcovers, the white shirt with leather wrist-wrappings and the green (sans sparklies) half-tunic, with a rope-style belt. Tragic, romantic, in theme, and a whole lot less tacky. IMO!

It frustrates me that every other part of his packaging is so well put-together and the costumes are just getting worse. But don't mind me, I've been harbouring this anguish since he came out at JGPF in 2013 wearing BLUE VELVET PANTS for Liebestraume!!!!!!!

can the tunic at least get a him on it? Please? Honestly I think that is what bugs me the most. I can handle it less sparkly, i can handle it with glitter,(I think that you are right that character stand point no glitter is best, but i also can see the argument for having some trainload eye catching, i actually think the sparkle here is a good example of some but not over done. . . but at the same time it might be better without, so i remain confused) but can we please at least get a hem on it so it looks finished? And what is whit the strange hole that tends to show up right at his navel?

I still like the idea, but it feels unfinished still. I agree that the tone of the piece is such that the costume should not look too "nice" for lack of a better way to put it. Simple would be fine. But simple can still be polished for lack of a better way to put it. If you want it to look worn, wear it out, don't leave off a hem!

I do want to add on the color of the pants. The shade is almost exactly the same as some old deer hides/skins of my grand father. I.e. one he shot and had tanned. So the color for me I can forgive as it is believable/realistic to me. It looks at least the color of animal skin pants which is reasonably realistic for the character portrayed.

On a subject other than costumes. . . He and Kori are on their way to 4CCs! Good luck to them.

Jason is blogging for IceNetwork from 4CCs. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I love his blogs. Though they have a tendency to make me hungry because he loves his food. So do I Jason, but some of us aren't at the activity level/metabolism level of a 20 year old elite athlete!

Too bad that Max Settlage is not going to Four Continents too ... to give us more illustrations of Jason and himself literally immersed in the bread bowl and such.

Thx, Katmari.

I don't know if the new 7K Academy homepage has been posted here yet, but I had not seen it. Kori is listed as the "Technical Director" and Rohene as the "Artistic Director."

Worth mousing around, slideshow of photos I had seen before and some I hadn't, both on home page and skaters' pages (Jason, Mariah, Tyler and Jordan are featured).
