Alexander Petrov

Junior Nationals SP:
77.89 (41.36 + 36.53)

No quads allowed in the SP I believe. So he's probably going to be in first position going into the FS.

Edit:
TES indicates that the program was not completely clean. But no major errors.

Edit:
The SP is almost over. Sasha leads Samarin by 1.85 pts going into the FS. The rest are too far behind. Lazukin in third with 69.74 (probably doubled the axel). Aliev 59.83 (I think he can kiss goodbye to a JW slot).

How many JWCH spots does Russia have - 3?

Well, wishing Petrov (isn't Samarin's first name Alexander as well, or am I misremembering?) the best for tomorrow - and also hoping for vid of the SP.:)

They have 3 spots.

Yes, I will use Sasha P then.

Based on the SP, I will make a prediction for JWs:
Russia will send either...
1. Sasha P, Samarin, Pitkeev OR
2. Sasha P, Samarin, Lazukin.
Option 2 is contingent on Lazukin having a great FS, ie. clean LP. Bronze or silver is not enough for Lazukin, it must be clean or near clean to have any chance.
Option 1 is more likely.
Aliev is done.

Thanks Adelia! What a great performance.:)

Sasha P sounds good.:) Actually, it will sound silly no doubt, but... in my post my main "concern" was making sure that my good wishes went to the right person! I know... I know... this is his fan thread, so who else would I mean? But.... really... it never hurts to be extra careful in these matters!;)

(Not that I wish Samarin any ill - as far as I can recall, I might never have seen him skate even. At least I've no recollection of it if I have.)

You may have watched Samarin in the JGP or Russian Nationals (he's the one with the Beatles program), but he's not a very memorable skater, in my opinion.

I only saw a very little of the JGP - and nearly everyone was new to me, so, while it was interesting in a way, I scarcely actually remember anyone! (Also, my mind is like a sieve. I know I keep saying this, but that is because... it really, really is!) Sasha really stood out to me. And I only watched a few select performances - from skaters that I already liked - from Nationals, so probably not.

Anyway, go Sasha P!:)

Well, before he went to Buianova Samarin used to be more memorable. She's fixed his 3A (sort of) but made him into a boring skater.

They were generous with Gumennik's scores, considering he has no 3A.

I think if he had skated in the second or third group, Sasha P's PCS would likely have been a half pt or so higher.

I think the biggest question for tomorrow's FS is: quad or no quad?

Glad that Petrov (sorry, I can't get behind "Sasha P") had a good SP. The lead is a bit precarious--I guess it's because the jumps weren't quite his usual quality.

Does this mean he skates last in tomorrow's LP? Because then he could make the "to quad or not to quad" decision based on how the others do. (Or he can pull a Liza-at-Europeans and deliver such a blinder that he'll win even with no quad, no matter how the others skated).

I think the skating order is determined by a draw.

Guess what? He was skating to the wrong version of his SP music yesterday. The one he skated to was a few seconds shorter than the usual version. Whose fault was that? His coaches submitted the wrong recording? Or the organizers/Federation played the wrong recording??

"At the start there was a small problem. Given the wrong version of the music recorded. This turned out to be shorter than a few seconds, so I had a little accelerated.

In general, with family coped, although there were small blots. But I seriously tuned to the start, because there is selection for the Junior World Championships.

Preparing for the competition was normal, except for a few days, which fell due to illness. Immediately after the New Year we went to camp in Estonia, Tartu. At the end of it I was ill. Picked up a virus. I can not say that it knocked me out. Perhaps, on the contrary, it made together."

140.18 (68.90 + 73.28). 2 falls. :hopelessness:

Third competition in a row where he's fallen. This is very bad. He's officially in a slump.

Edit:
OMG. He is sooooooo lucky. Lady luck must favour the handsome. Sasha P has possibly won gold. Samarin bombed even worse. Just gotta wait for Lazukin to finish skating to confirm the colour of Sasha P's medal.
