Pick the music for your favorites

Not sure if anyone would agree with me on this, but I think Lindsey Stirling would be an interesting choice for the right skater. Particularly:

Shadows
Take Flight
Elements

Also, Nobuo Uematsu (composer for most of the Final Fantasy series) has written some very beautiful work. I'd love to see a skater do a routine to one of his songs, or perhaps even a medley.

Agree about Lord of the Rings by the way. :)

Yes, please. Uematsu's music is amazing.

It won't happen with Frank Carroll coaching, but I'd love to see Gracie skate to Explosive by Bond, Disney's Fantasmic, or Indiana Jones.

I would love to see Julia Lipnitskaya skate to "The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe." I think it would be perfect for her.

I want to see someone skate to "Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" but I have no idea who.

AsadaFanBoy, Jeremy Abbott could knock Stevie Wonder's "As" out of the park...

I'd like to see some Motown used. Why dancers haven't is beyond me.

SoundtracksOnIce Indiana Jones music would be great. There's a piece from Last Crusade that has none of the recognizable theme that would be great. There's wonderful music from Empire of the Sun. Why has no one done the 1941 March? All three of these are on a CD Williams did with the Pops of his Spielberg music.

Unite,

I love some of your recommendations; some of them I'll have to take time to listen to, since I'm not familiar.

One on your list that stands out as a head-scratcher is Gershwin for Gracie... not that I dislike Gershwin, mind you... but it's borderline overdone.

In my mind, I always call Rhapsody in Blue the "United Airlines Suite" since it always reminds me of their commercials.

If Mao comes back, I would like for her to skate to Schumann's Traumerai in the short. It's light and dreamy, a bit of a cop-out I know, but it would suit her so well! For her long program, it would be amazing if she skated to Samson et Delila with an emphasis on a section for Mon Coeur.

For Tuktamysheva, perhaps Scheherazade? It seems the oriental/middle eastern/exotic vibe is the only dimension she has in terms of taste, so why not skate to a seminal classic?

Gracie Gold- Cell Block Tango. Could be a good moment for her. It's sassy, it's jazzy, it's crass- everything Gracie really is.

Zijun Li- she seems to resonate well with ballet music, so perhaps she could skate to the Nutcracker Pas de Deux, or Swan Lake. To date, her Sleeping Beauty free programme has been the best she's ever put out- so when it works, it works?

Joshua Farris- Chopin's Ballade no.1. I think he can find the artistry to match more so than Hanyu ever will.

Polina Edmunds- Cats. Please. Just. Please.

On the subject of Two Steps From Hell/listening to, and thinking of what else may suit other skaters, and I'm thinking:

Rika Hongo:

Archangel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqlqXg9HXI0

I think, seeing her Carmen, that she would do well with music that has power and strong character.

And maybe....

James/Cipres:

Salvation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qxecwSCAf0

Driving music with power - of course, that is what they seem to prefer for their LP, while their SPs are more light and playful; but maybe combined with some other piece?

Maybe?

Volosozhar/Trankov

Casablanca (no vocals - I much prefer this version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBtrCOnO8qw

Again they are power skaters, and might do something with this.

And some suggestions I had for

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva:

Starfall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFEAzP1Zm-A

Maybe it has some/too much similarity to her current FP? But I think it is slightly different in mood, and it builds nicely. But something rather different:

Heart
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTb4TnSJEH0

A softer, more emotional piece.

Moving in that direction... Maybe...

Anna Pogorilaya:

Northern Pastures
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr6CE0wjAlk

Maybe if she tried something softer like this? (I was thinking Elena Radionova as well - I think this could have suited her very well; but she's already done Nero, so... :))

And...

Gracie Gold:

Blizzard
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbryc35gJBU

I think she should go with music that has a little more... drive in it. But there is no reason one can not skate with power, yet grace, at the same time.

I'll leave it at that for the moment, or else this post will just be too long!:)

Any of the ladies.

Kate miller Heidke--The Last Day on Earth

Yuzuru

Counting Stars-- One Republic
Dustbowl Dance- Mumford and Sons

A really light, fast. lyrical skater

The Feather Theme

Other songs
Cinema Paradiso
The Hearth Ask for Pleasure First
Harry Potter or LOTR
One Summer-- Spirited Away-- Joe Hisaishi

I've gone on browsing Two Steps, and I came across this piece for the first time:

Big Sky
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p2w-pijuFc

And the skater that came to mind was....

Jason Brown - I think it is weirdly similar and yet different at the same time from what he has done before.

And before that I thought maybe

Alexander Petrov:

For The Win
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZttpi2Cpcg

Because at the moment I can't think of any other skater who has the right type of personality and presence to bring this off. There are plenty of skaters with presence and personality, of course, but it's a specific kind of flavour, if you will, of on-ice command that I'm looking for, and I think that Petrov - despite his youth - has it.

You mean like an "aura"? Because that was the vibe I was getting when I first saw his current SP.

Add me to the LOTR camp. I know there were a few routines the year of Fellowship but after that nothing. A pairs team, Dorota Zagorska & Mariusz Siudek used "Council of Elrond" and "Concerning Hobbits" for their 2002-3003 SP, and ice dancers Galit Chait & Sergei Sakhnovski did a really need blend of LOTR and "Nightmare" from Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance the same season (FD).

Oddly underused music - LOTR.

Kiira Korpi:

Evenstar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im5CIpMFo4Q

Beautiful, graceful - perfect for a so elegant skater. Also, the music is positively haunting.

Zijun Li:

Arwen's Song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUiCGR5JHqA

I'm not pro-lyrics, really, but since they are allowed... Lyrical, slow music - I wonder what Zijun could do with this?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva - She mentioned in an interview thinking about doing the Games of Thrones music, but that Michal Brezina is already doing it. So, why not LOTR instead? Especially the

Rohan theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IOyNjCSnf8

Who better to portray a shield maiden - especially if she goes for the 3A? :)

Oh, yes, definitely. I was just watching the JGP mostly out of idle curiosity - and it's not that I didn't find anyone else likeable, there were some nice skaters there - but he... made me sit up and take notice.:)
