Joshua Farris

Johnny use one skater to insult another skater, has done it many times now, shake my head:disapp:
 
^I think the speculation about Johnny's motives is unneeded. He's blunt, maybe not everyone likes his commentary, but none of us know him personally enough to comment on his character.

Commentators were the usual crew of Kurt Browning, Carol Lane, and Brenda Irving. They commented on the quality of his 3A, and the finesse of his steps/skating. (Sorry, I can't offer more detail. I was switching back and forth between NBC and CBC and somehow missed the first half of Josh's LP both times. :slink: Then other stuff came up as well...)
 
I also think the comparison to Brain Jewbear is interesting, they both have gorgeous faces, and looked like brothers, I have thought of that for a long time actually. :p

Usually I like Johnny, but this "elevating one skater by dragging down another" really gets on my nerves. You're right in that speculating about his personal reasons and characteristics doesn't get us anywhere, but I have to admit it gets me pretty pissed - in general, and even more so as a Jason fan. It's especially annoying because I usually like Johnny :slink:

I like the CBC commentary much better (thanks sabinfire!), although I don't really get the constant comparing to other skaters. And really, Brian Joubert? :biggrin:
 
The constant jabs that Johnny (and sometimes Tara) make towards Jason is getting annoying. Did he steal one of Johnny's Chanel bags? Jeez. I much preferred the CBC and Eurosport commentary.

They do pick favourites. Of the current crop of USFS men's contenders, Farris is my favourite. And that's okay, because that is what "just cool fans" do.

Cool fans can pick favorites, or follow them, but commentators? Not so much. I have come late to the party for Josh because I was not following skating in his junior heyday, and frankly, this past year, prior to Nats, there wasn't much to watch. Now ... :cheer: His LP, done right, is stunning. But that doesn't mean I throw Jason under the bus, or cease in my admiration for Jason. And Josh and Jason would not be happy that one was being elevated at the expense of the other, I expect.

I also agree that I would love to see Josh skate to upbeat, and happy, and zesty. I know he has that spark of joy inside, and I would love to see that over mopey and lovelorn. IMHO.

I can bear the cardinal sin of talking during the StSq a little better here because of the hushed, reverent tone. They're not using the moment to take shots at another skater.

Another John Curry comparison - he's racking them up isn't he?
 
This may sound shallow but anyone else think that Josh is very good looking? One of the prettiest male skaters I've seen only Joubert is hotter.

I think you'll find plenty of agreement on the subject of Joshua's beautiful face in this thread - and in many others! :p

He has grown up very well. It was obvious maybe three years ago that he was going to be very handsome, but the result has exceeded expectations!

Indeed. I looked at pictures from several years ago and what a difference. He was cute before and innocent looking but now he's gorgeous. First time I ever saw him skate was at Nationals this year and he immediately caught my eye.
 
I much prefer CBC's commentary of Josh's LP to NBC's. I've always thought NBC to be rather "nationalistic" in their figure skating coverage, which while not ideal, is acceptable given the ~Olympic~ status of figure skating in the US. However, I find CBC's coverage to be more flattering to Josh while also not being negative toward other skaters (esp Jason.)

I also hoped for NBC to show Josh's SP here--if no other SPs, NBC should've shown Josh's, because he is an American skater and performed his SP so well here. He performed an exceptional SP and LP here, and I can't help but think if Gracie Gold had performed two back-to-back programs as brilliant as Josh's, they both would've been covered.

I have always preferred CBC and never NBC. I just think that CBC commentators are more like "analysts" as compated to NBC's "mr and ms trying to be know it all" commentators, except for Sandra Bezic i love her.

If you try to backread i have always been vocal about him becoming so gorgeous and really bloomed coming in to this season. He's like a prince-charming on ice especially with his Give me love program. Even the outfitting, he is <3. :)
