I should have said above that in multiple :yes: tweets this morning, Hersh was quick to pat Jason on the back :).

(I did wince at Hersh's words re Josh and Adam, but it is undeniable that -- one way or another -- today was bad news for them. I wish them better luck with their free skates. And good luck to Jason too.)

I am so happy for Jason! Amazing to think that if he'd gotten a level 4 on his final spin, he would be in fourth right now. I hope that his experience at the Olympics stands him in good stead and he's able to pace himself and skate beautifully in the FS despite the pressure of skating last, immediately after the hometown favorite and after the huge scores that will no doubt be laid down by D10, Javi & Hanyu.
 
Jason's SP was great - his spins are divine. I didn't love "Juke" the first time I saw it at Broadmoor (on video), but I think he grew into that program and it's been refined to where it's a good fit. I also wonder, given that he and Polina both had good SP's here - was there something in those dumplings they had? LOL

I hope he's able to be in contention for the bronze - I guess it depends on how Voronov, Ten and Yan do in the FS. They are all pretty close in terms of points, so it is possible if he skates well.
 
Jason is the only guy in the final group who won't be doing at least one quad, so realistically it will be hard for him to medal. He may not even move up at all, though it would be thrilling if he did. I sincerely hope he skates as cleanly and beautifully as he is capable of doing, and can't wait to see the revamped program. And I hope that Adam & Josh both come back strong tomorrow.

Which is just another example of how he has such a good team behind him. Juke is not perfect, but it did force him to grow and adapt as a skater so in the long run I think he was a great choice. They gave him something he had to actually sell, not that spoke for itself. I am so looking forward to what he does next year.

My take is if everyone is clean, based on current SB and potential of peaking to an even higher score, the best case scenario is 4th-5th. He's practically tied with Voronov and Han after the SP and even with quads their SB wasn't that much higher than Jason's... (Voronov's is actually 6 points lower).

I think it would be tough to beat Javi or Yuzuru since their have a pretty sizable buffer already coming in. Ten is a HUGE question mark. Will we see 4CC Ten (hi, 191+!) or TEB Ten (go away, 144.50)?

And in the rearview mirror: If Florent Amodio, Nam Nguyen or Michal Brezina have the SOHL they could end up passing Jason. Misha doesn't have a quad either, so I don't see him passing Jason with a clean skate.

Honestly, like you, I just want to see a clean skate regardless of where it places. Tomorrow is going to be so exciting!!!

I must confess I am waiting to see if we get practice pants or the rustic look we've grown accustomed to!

I have been a Hersh tweaker, I don't think of myself as a hater. I call him out when I think he's lazy, just like with a skater. But if he is not beating the old quad dead horse, go Phil!

Can't get up at 7 in the morning for skating, but now that I have seen: how bout that new entrance to the 3A? Always loved Juke, love it more now. And I am the only one, but he kept Prince for two years, keep Juke for two years!:cheer2:

And I am nervous. Jason was 6th going into the Olys (in another virtual tie situation, no?) , and skated last in the Olys free skate. But now he has two whole years of senior skating behind him... go Jason!:cheer:

Yes, you're the only one. :laugh: Seriously, I think other than maybe a more springy combo and not losing spin levels, he probably performed that skate the best he possibility could today. I don't see that SP developing from a performance/artistic standpoint. The only scenario where they would keep it is if they decide to put the quad in. But even then I'd rather have him keep T&I if that's the strategy.

One of the things I wish he had mentioned is that Jason was probably underscored relative to Voronov and D10, most likely because he doesn't have the quad and didn't skate in the last group. D10 made some really visible, disruptive mistakes and still ended up higher than both Jason & Han Yan; Voronov got higher PCS than both of them. I'm not really surprised, and I have nothing against Voronov or D10-they didn't give themselves the marks-but I do think the judging of those two was questionable.
 
Sergei got last group PCS (as Denis did). Doesn't make it correct, but that is what is at play.

As for Denis, the disruptive mistakes were, well very visible, but were less costly from a scoring standpoint since he had fully rotated the jumps the mistakes occurred in. Same goes for Sergei.

And more importantly, Jason also left points on the table with missing the level on the final spin and perhaps not getting the same level of +GOE on his spins and steps he is capable of getting. HE was about 1.5 points behind his personal best TES score.

It will be interesting how they will be all scored in PCS when they're in the same warm-up group.

Mrs P you're right on all of that, and that's why I'm not too upset. And yes, I agree it will be interesting. I tend to think that all things being equal, Han Yan has a better chance to medal because he's the hometown boy (and of course, a very good skater). More than anything I would love to see Jason close the competition the way he did at 2013 JWC, by skating a blinder, whether or not he medals.

I know, I'm in my own little world, but I like it here. :biggrin: You make good points about growth in the SP. I just hope it's not Jeremy/Josh SP type music.

Please no Emo music for Jason. I think we would all laugh at the obscurity of Jason trying to be sad.

Juke has grown on me, but I am a bit with Mrs. P on this one that is just does not have much more to grow at this point, so I don't know if keeping it for another year would be wise. Plus my theory remains that T & I will stay, so I am hoping for some new material from him. . . well ok from him and Rohene.

It's been a few months since I posted -- very busy and caught up in college football, college basketball, etc. I'm very happy for Jason, but worried about him skating last in the FS. I hope, unlike the Olympics, if all of the men before him are struggling, he doesn't absorb the negative vibes. If I recall, he was asking the guys how they skated and when it wasn't good, he started to get take himself out of the "game" mentally.

Hopefully, he focuses on his own skating and block out everything that's going on backstage and direct it to the audience and his own performance up until the final note of his music ends. I know it isn't in his nature, but it may be best for him if he wants to skate well after warmups. GO JASON!!!
