You know, I really enjoyed when Lena did her Whitney Houston EX at GPF...she looked so gorgeous with her hair down in that white dress... :love: I wonder why she hasn't done that EX anymore. Does she like the other one better? A part of me also wonders if it's because that armor-like costume she has to wear doesn't bit anymore... :unsure:

Some news! Looks like Lena will be performing in "Bolshoi on Ice" again! It runs from 4/28 - 5/24 (on Fridays-Sun only), but I'm guessing Lena will only be there for some of the shows.

On a totally unrelated note, I was watching a "Sound of Music" special the other day, and I thought, wouldn't it just be perfect if Lena did a program to songs from that movie?!! She definitely warms my heart the same way the film does!

I have to give MAJOR KUDOS to the British Eurosport crew--they were the ONLY ones who knew that Lena was not feeling well. They really do their homework! :agree:

However, it does seem that Lena has majorly charmed Tara, Kurt Browning and Carol Lane, so I enjoyed hearing their commentary. I loved how Kurt was like, "she must have so many fans," and Carol responded, "count me in that number!" :biggrin: Kurt is right, she needs more power, but I'm sure Lena & Inna know that and will be working on it! :agree:

I should watch SoM again. I do like it (and I like your idea), but I haven't seen it for years. Possibly it was very Lena-like
 
Hmmm, I feel like the one on the left looks better on paper, but the one on the right works better in Lena's FS. It's a better fit for that music and that idea :think:

I'm not sure that either one fits with the theme of being "against the war"... :unsure: As Lena explains here:

The one on the left makes me think of the sun rising from the darkness a bit, and the end of the program is hopeful, so maybe it fits...?
But that costume has a shorter skirt, so it does make Lena's legs look even more ridiculously long than usual. :eek:

Still, since she's going to be skating in Japan, I think it would be a nice gesture if she wore the one on the left, since a Japanese designer made it for her. :agree:

In that interview, I really like how Lena is so respectful of Mao Asada (since I'm a Mao fan). But I liked this quote the best:

A:No, there is always a thrill. Even when I perform in a show, still can not stop worrying. Just going out on the ice, I'm starting to feel like a fish in water. Both dresses are fine but I personally like the left one better. Maybe it might not fit with the concept of the music, but I still really like the designs and colours. The right one makes her look slightly taller (although her height looks different in different angles) which is good but the upper design looks strange to me.

At least now I know she didn't trash the left dress and still has it. I liked her GPF performance more than TEB and Euros so I was sad to see her not using the dress anymore.

I think it kinda does. It's asymetral and the bottom part almost feels torn apart. It looks both pretty and rather messy, I bet that's not an easy look to create. So to me she feels like a war orphan or something in that program. She looks like someone who suffered from the war and that's why she's trying to promote peace. At least that's my interpretation, I think that dress is great, even if it's not the prettiest one. But I agree that this time around the sunny one is the better choice :)

I think the only new part is that mini-interview with her mom at the end of the article. She says she was against Lena doing skating at first, she was scared that Lena could get hurt. Now she says she wants her to become the best :cheer: She's not very happy with Lena's education. "You can't do figure skating all day long and expect to be on the same level as the kids who go to school every day". She tried to make Lena do her homework between the training sessions, but she says it was too hard, Lena just wanted to rest. So now she doesn't try so hard to make her study.
Lena has a strong personality, she says. "She can even be rude to you sometimes, but soft and weak people don't survive in the sport". Lena is very straightforward, she says, and that can cause her some problems.
When asked about boys and relationships, she said they talked about this with Lena and they both understand she needs to finish school and achieve something in the sport before thinking about stuff like that. She'll get to have relationships when she grows up and goes to a university, she says.

VERY interesting interview! Lena's mom seems strict (in the best possible way). No wonder Lena seems quite down to earth and doesn't have "star disease"! :agree:

I was wondering why Lena is still in 9th grade if she's 16, but I guess it's been tough with her to keep up with her schoolwork and do the exams.

Lena usually seems so sweet and adorable, and she seems to get along so well with all the girls (and even encourages/comforts them), that I was kind of surprised to see her mom call her "rude," but I guess I can see that, a bit. I can see her being strong-willed and unwilling to back down, and I can see her being (brutally) honest, but not with the intention to hurt someone...

About the boys--haha, I was wondering when this would come up! :biggrin: I feel like the media would *always* ask Mao Asada dumb questions like "what kind of guy do you like," so I was sort of (pleasantly) surprised that Lena wasn't asked those kind of questions. I think this part might get harder in the years to come, as Lena's friends start having relationships...I can only imagine that Lena will have/already has plenty of admirers. ;)

I'm not surprised - I think that no matter how lovely someone is, they will always be rude to their parents, sometimes. You just need someone to let your anger out on I guess. It's easier to be rude to them than to your friends, because you know they will still love you afterwards.

Especially when those parents make you study between skating sessions :p My guess is there was a lot of arguing between Lena and her mom before she finally gave up on making Lena study super hard.

In general in Russian schools you study for 11 years (it used to be 10 back in day, but I guess that's different now) and it usually starts when you're 7, so graduating at 18 seems to be the norm. So Lena and Liza (she's in 11th grade at 18) seem to be fine.
