Jason Brown

What an amazing variety of music we've suggested - and quite a lot is unfamiliar to me, so thanks to all for that! It's going to be really, really interesting to see what they actually use (watch, it will be Carmen and POTO)...

He promised it wouldn't be POTO - he prooooomiiiiiiiised! (she wailed) (Note: actually I believe he was talking about the Olympic season - but I'm just going to assume and treat as if it were a blanket guarantee.) In comparison - Carmen, I could live with. In fact, he might be able to do a really mean Carmen.:)

My music suggestion is of course:

I'm just used to thinking of it as "his" music now... (Yes, I'm odd that way. what can I say?;))

I actually wouldn't mind seeing what Rohene might come up with for Jason with Carmen. I think he could be very good at attempting the Plushenko-style androgynous Carmen, where both the male and female characters were represented as one unfolding story (rather than sticking with the traditional "macho" cuts).

Hehe, Morissey is more operatic in his whining...lol. Seriously I'm a fan, so hate him to be lumped in with those other guys...

Sigh...dub step. It's been so overused in pop music --- even my precious K-pop --- that I have a sour taste for it now. I know there is good use of it, but the bad outweighs the good.

I will have to watch Sam's video...cause I can't remember the beat used there.

I have to defend Morrissey, because he is very witty. Most other WWGWG are just kvetchers, but Morrissey is not only operatic but sly and subversive. The misery is so OTT that it becomes hilarious. Hmmm, maybe There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, which is one of the strangest love songs in history ("And if a double-decker bus crashes into us/To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die").

Ah well, Mrs P knows I have a soft spot in my heart for the WWGWGs. Well, as long as they can write good melodies to go along with all the kvetching. I do have some standards.

I have to laugh that Jason's thread has turned into a Morrissey/Smiths thread. I want to see Jason skate to "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" b/c that would be ironic.

No, not about music....

Sylvia posted this video in FSU as Polina's behind the scenes look at Worlds. Lots of Jason in the beginning, since he was on the plane with Polina (and another "full fro hair" shot).

And is that Denis Ten essentially the same size as Polina? I know some of the male skaters are tiny, and I guess Polina is (relatively) tall for a ladies skater....

So I was board this morning and decided to actually find out the last time an American man has placed 4th or better at worlds. I recall people saying "since compulsory figures" but that is a bit vague.

Evan Lysacek of course has him beat with a bronze at his first showing. Rudy Galindo has kinda an asterisked better placement as he got a bronze his first time out as a singles skater, but had been twice as a pairs skater. . . hard to reconcile.

Anyway, the last time and American got 4th or better at their first worlds was in 1957. . .and the skaters name was Tim Brown.

I'd still say third best debut since 1957 is damn good!

Granted i could have missed someone. . . the eyes start to glaze over after awhile.

It was cool to see the training footage, but I have to admit the super dramatic music in the high school tv station video was a bit OTT. It probably could have stood on its own; no dramatic music necessary.

I need to visit this thread more often with all this talk of the Smiths! :)

Didn't he already do this?

Jason Brown SP - Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now

Love the concept!

OK, I can now say I have heard 45 seconds(?) of the Smiths. That is all I could take (maybe I was miserable:laugh2:) and turned the sound down.

But if we were to keep Jason in the same genre:

The thrill is gone, the thrill is gone away ... with both the late, great BB and Eric Clapton...

Thanks for making that video, Sabinfire, and it really almost works, lol.

Are you taking any more requests? :)

Sabinfire you also made my better half happy with that video. He said "anything that gets you listening to Morrissey is fine with me" you got a smile out of him.

Though the better half was instant that he is not a WWGWG as he never played the guitar.

I love how you even got the acoustic to sounds. . . like they would in an ice area.

Yours is far better than the Blues Clues version.

Heh, thanks everyone! :) I couldn't help but laugh at the idea of Jason's personality skating to "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now". StitchMonkey -- your better half has excellent taste! ;)

Depends on the type of request. Some songs I may not be familiar with or I just may not care for that type of music, so it may be difficult for me to do a good job in editing if I don't feel inspired. Also, some songs just will not work very well for certain skaters no matter what I try, but the only way to be sure is to drop the video and song into my editing software to see if there's anyone to work with. It couldn't hurt to make suggestions... if it sounds like a good idea and seems to work, I could give it a go.
