I also don't think IZ's SD will look like DWTS routines. These have standard, fairly basic choreography, for reasons
The Grand Sophy has mentioned, which won't be something IZ purposefully sought out an innovative modern dance choreographer for. The waltz pattern itself is prescribed, and as for the rest I think it'll be a very interesting, non-traditional program which
will be tied to the lyrics, and, I guess, be a sort of anthem to triumphing over adversity and flying off in pursuit of one's dreams. DWTS videos just show that it can be danced to as a normal, aesthetically-pleasing waltz (for those of us who haven't seen it done). I was also very relieved to learn that apparently it's widely considered a typical modern waltz (although I'm surprised that many people choose it as their first dance at the wedding, since the lyrics speak at length about very discouraging circumstances that it takes all of one's inner strength to overcome, and so, despite the refrain, it doesn't really strike me as a romantic song).
Also, looking down what people did the last time we had a waltz SD, all the Marina & Igor teams went super traditional, but then in the rest of the top 10 finishers at Worlds, there were people using Etta James (W/P), Chess (B/S) and Que Sera Sera (C/L), plus I/K's Schnittke, which is technically "classical" but was also a really modern and quite divisive piece of music. Doing something that's not a usual ballroom waltz hasn't held people back before.
Thank you for reminding us that people have indeed used something other than a traditional waltz for SD as well and gotten away with it.
Z/G are also skating to Queen for their FD this coming season.
I thought they had retired, no?
I can`t wait for the new programs!

I want them to do so many different styles, that skating only until 2018 is waaaay too short. It`s a pity that they have found each other so late. It`s weird that this teaming up was more of a coincidence, but they look as if they were meant for each other on ice.
ITA. Only three more years is indeed not even closely enough for their potential - these guys can skate to anything, and they seem determined to leave their mark. I do feel like they have it in them to define an era. And, yes, it's kind of amusing now to think back to how only a little more than a year ago I was so upset that IK had split because I thought that they were perfect for each other, and, judging by her interviews at the time, I think Elena herself thought so too back then. But it turns out that there's life after perfect
P.S.
Just remembered something else that's funny. Natalia Bestemianova gave another short interview today about Russian figure skaters' potential at the Olympics in Korea, and about her own discipline she said: "As far as ice dancing teams are concerned, I've spoken with world-class specialists, and they all as one maintain that the best Russian duet right now are Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin." Of course, nobody is taking it seriously. The woman seems to have neither conscience nor brains. Sounds like she and Zueva took the same PR courses - they're so completely clueless it's actually entertaining.
Here's the link to her interview (in Russian):
