Skaters on Team Japan

I saw this program live several days ago, and it’s sure this small and cute pink panther caught the audience’s heart.;)
(And I was a bit surprised she was solid technically.)

Thanks hamaguri for the report. That's nice to know and good for Miyu. I know she's also into show biz, but I think she can be a great competitive skater if she puts her mind, heart, and soul to it. And the omens too are good for her, for I don't know any other skater her age who had received skating lessons from no less than Evgeni Plushenko (even got to hold his Olympic medals) and Patrick Chan. ;)

Of course, I will report about Sota and Marin (If you want to know about anyone else, please let us know. I love to write a report, but I have a slight hesitation to post it to thread feeling a bit shamed.) Needless to say, who I most want to write about is yuzu. But if I begin writing about him, the report will be surely long:hopelessness:…

I love reading your detailed reports about the ice shows you have watched. :)

Me too. Her skate made people smile. There were many local people at Nagaoka Ice show, who had no experience with watching figure skate live, but they applauded Haruka. I am also glad she gets 2 GS assignment .

BTW, I missed one thing about Nam at Kanazawa. He’d got taller sharply, so he might have lacked stability in his jumps. He seemed to be troubled to take suitable axis. Consistency is his big advantage. So pray for his recovery of jumps! :)

nonsense, no need to be hesitated or feel ashamed, i am pretty sure everyone here loves to read any reports on shows, and your reports are great! i love your comments so please continue! since reports are all most of us have :cheer:

and about nam, somehow he is one of few skaters that i dont worry about, i feel like i can count on him most of the time (maybe because he was very consistent last season  ) he will up his tech this season though so there might be little worry haha, but its off season and they are not at the same condition as on? season

Hamagurl, thank you for your reports, they are great! :) I would love to read more - reading the impressions from watching skating live is always interesting!

Marin Honda (July 11, 2015 on Saturday night, Nagaoka Ice Show)

"Spring sonata by BEETHOVEN”
Choreographer: Marina Zueva
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2uv11n

First, I saw her at the recent Kanazawa FaOI for the first time. She had solid technical skills overall and landed 3S3Lo and 2A3T (in the latter half!), what was more, she was “beautiful” in her appearance and expressions, although she is still 14 years old. I thought she has ‘it factor” and got into her (Of course, it’s only my personal view!). Thus, I was expecting her great performance there in Nagaoka.
But what happened was….

All jumps were messy! :hopelessness:(fall, punk…)

Whhhhhhhhhhy?

Nevertheless, I could enjoy her performance:). That was partly because I felt she’d got confidence in herself, although she failed jumps. For most skaters, failures in jumps have a bad influence on their performances. Especially when they are less experienced. They get damage physically and get depressed mentally, which leads to lower level of performance than they can do. But she did other elements right, neither lost the speed nor lacked concentration till the end. Further, “Spring sonata” went with her. She is naturally able to express herself and appeal to the audience. She looks better in this program, I suppose.

According to @mikaboo, she sometimes lacks consistency. The stability in jumps may be the key of this season…

Go Marin!:cheer:

thanks hamaguri once again!! its a shame about the jumps but the fact that it didnt affect her mentally says a lot about her character! she is used to the spotlight and their family is full of skaters, i think thats gonna be her advantage cause she is used to being in competition with them, esp her brother :)

She looks like she has grown a lot taller in the last year or so, and it's difficult for skaters to adjust to rapid growth. I'm guessing that's why.

This is something that we see with so many promising young skaters - we never know how growth is going to affect them, and whether they can get through it with their jumps etc intact and consistent. Just have to hope...

Thanks for the report! Too bad about Marin's jumps、I hope she does well in her debut year as a junior.
I was wondering if you had any comments about Miyu as well?

She was a cute pink panther:). She landed all jumps, including combination. She totally attracted the audience. I was impressed that she expressed using her upper body, especially arms fully. Further, she had good spins!

@hamaguri
Thank you for your report on Marin at Nagaoka. She really is a lovely skater. I'm a new auntie fan of both Marin and Yuna since DOI.
Waiting eagerly for JGP assignments to come out!

Thanks for the information. Been a fan of Miyu since I saw her acting a few years back. I have always wondered if her skating skills were actually at the level where she would be in the top bracket of her age group.

Sota Yamamoto (July 11, 2015 on Saturday night, Nagaoka Ice Show)

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso soundtrack by Ennio Morricone

Poeta
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2uv1mr_山本草太-2015-2016-新sp-doi-2015_sportv

First, when Sota appeared on the ice for Ex “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso”, I was astoned that he grew mature since I’d seen him live at Japanese Nationals 2014 last.
He was lovely in white shirt. The EX program has less elements than competition’s, so I could enjoy his skating, although the rink was not so large. The piece of music with vocal suited well him.
He landed huge 3A! and other two kinds of triple (3F, ?). It felt like he was yuzu for some moments. At the time of combination spins in middle part, camel, sit,,, especially A spin! I thought “yuzu”! Probably it was partly because he added to his height and his legs were longer. Of course, he’d improved technically.
Further, the inside and outside eagle was just gorgeous… I got breath.
When he finished, I was really satisfied and stood up right away! Most people had the same feelings. The moment of happiness...

Poeta is much more difficult, for this is competition program this season.. He looked a little tense. Of course, the program was on its way, but it was more sophisticated and developed than at DOI. 3A became 2A, but the other triple jumps were solid. I suppose he is a kind of all-round player.. Style, technic, musicality, skating skills,…He’s got many things which make him stand out. All I hope is he will grow straight.
Poeta reminds some people of Stephan. But this Poeta truly feels like Sota’s. I am looking forward to seeing this program evolving this season:).

Finally, as I said above, I was surprised his physical development, but after that I saw this photo at Nagaoka http://ameblo.jp/suzuki-akko/image-12049909084-13364632336.html He was just adorable with his eyes closed!:laugh2:

Thank you for reading!:)

I read a tweet that at Nagaoka, every time Sota or Rika or Akiko made jump mistakes, Coach Nagakubo would hold his head in agony
But he looked super happy when Sota got a standing ovation for his EX number. Did you see him?
Thanks again for the report.

I didn't notice him at that time, but my friend told me about him... He is a good coach!

Thank you! I really enjoy Sota's skating and hope he continues to improve as he has done the last season.
One thing especially he can improve in is 'hitting' sometimes. In dance, 'hitting' is when you strike a pose, and it is very sharp. So, most of the program can be smooth, and sometimes, a sharp movement or pause for better effect.

Sorry, I posted her SP instead of her FS by mistake. Her new FS should be this one, but if she skated to her old SP at Niigata, I'm not sure now.
No big deal. We'll find out soon!

2013-2014
SP Song without words in D major, Op.109 by Felix Mendelssohn
FS Piano Concerto in A-flat major by Saint-Preux

Thank you for further information. It was piano piece, surely she did Piano Concerto in A-flat major by Saint-Preux. I corrected the post:).

No welcome! I am truly glad you read my report. Yes, Marin enjoyed being in the center of spotlight. She has a good family. Her environment works well!

I didn’t know about the concept of 'hitting'. You know well:biggrin:… Now I learned it. Thank you! (You are familier with dance? It’s a kind of technical term? )

I'm not an expert at all, I just love watching dance, all kinds of dance. In hip-hop, and Latin dances it is important to choose your moments and be very sharp. (though the way in which you are sharp is different for each dance)
'Hitting' is a hip-hop term, but I think it can be used for other dances too.
