The reason I am leaving Sinitsina/Katsalapov out of the discussion for now is that if he does indeed have to be off the ice for six weeks, they'll probably have to skip the GP season entirely, which would put them at a severe disadvantage going into Nationals. If it turns out he can come back on the ice in a week or two, they can probably still make SA, at which point I'll reasses.

There have been a bunch of different stories - in that one on the 12th he said he's ready, in another one that came out on Sunday, he said maybe 6 weeks, Marina said yesterday they are checking with the doctor, but even if the doctor says he can skate it will be a rush to be ready for Skate America. So who really knows.

Sinitsina/Katsalapov were just announced as the host pick for CoR, so hopefully they can get back on the ice soon. If Tiffany doesn't get released I don't know who they could replace S/K with anyway.

What with the plethora of sloppy skates and very small amount of landed, fully rotated triples here, I'm a bit concerned. Even jump queen Liza had some falls and singled jumps, and I think Elena was the only one to land a clean 3-3 (her and possibly Evgenia). Yulia doubled a ton, Anna had a large number of falls, Liza singled some things, and so did Adelina (as well as falling a lot). I'm honestly scared.

And a lot of the programs (Liza's short, Anna's free, Elena's short and both of Adelina's were alright) were either slightly unsatisfactory or just plain bad. .

Mao couldn't have picked a better year to come back than this. And Adelina is a very lucky girl...her improved artistry and polish from her DWTS season might be her saving grace in this field.

I don't see what you are talking about. This is only the test skates for the Russian national team, not real competitions, in which a majority of russian skaters did very well at this early stage. It seems that "sloppy" is a very good term to summarize the performances of any skater at any time, no matter whether you are merely a FS fan or an expert. Good. Any other frequently used words for the summary? "Meh, mediocre or tacky"? BTW, when did Liza fall in the skates? In SP or LP?

When it comes to Mao, I don't think she is that invincible, because she has many jump issues to handle and she will face much more competitions both at home and abroad, not only from Russians, but also from Americans.

That is untrue. I know you are not a Liza fan but that does not excuse you from spreading false information. Would you kindly retract, and not post that elsewhere, as not all will have seen the test skates, and will believe it to be true. Thank you.

Also one singled jump is not plural, but such accuracy where Liza is concerned is no doubt too much to ask.

No matter how many times you try to explain the concept of "test skates," some people just don't seem to get it (almost wilfully, it seems). Perhaps this year because they invited the public and sold tickets, some people are under the impression that the skaters and programs were meant to be competition-ready. Imagine, if every country showed us all of their skaters' tests, do they think everyone would be totally polished, skating at top speed like they were in peak form, and error-free? Too funny.

Consider test skates to be a very rough draft, where nothing is set in stone. Last year Adian scrapped his FS program entirely after the tests. And you saw plenty of skaters just marking out the program without jumps.

Maybe it is not the balletic classical thing people seem to expect from the FS, but it was fun, catchy and different enough for people to remember it =)
And yeah, i'm kinda disappointed the russian ladies are mostly going for some more serious music - i'll miss Liza`s FS and Elena`s SP =(

Why be selective? The entire first paragraph is wrong. Except the part about Anna, but even she manage to land 2 or 3 3/3 combos.

Overall, it looked like most of the women were still getting used to their programs, which is why we saw slow skating and hesitancy with the jumps. There isn't a clear frontrunner in the ladies field in Russia, but most of the top women look like they could be ready by the time the GP series starts. Julia looked great in practice and Liza will hit her jumps once she is comfortable with her programs. Adelina is a bit of a question mark because her lutz still looks iffy, but her skating is a bit more refined than her peers in the test skate.
