Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I pitty Katsalapov- he took a bad decision out of ambition (what the hell was in his mind?) and since then nothing seems to work well for him :hopelessness:

I don't know if it was out of ambition... he comes across as really clueless and even stupid in his interviews, I'm sorry, but I have to believe he didn't actually think Viktoria was a better skater than Elena... if he actually thought that he is pretty much blind. Anyway though this has all been rehashed to death sooooo... throwback to Carmen goodness:

An entirely different question: considering the technical elements scores have been adjusted, what can we expect to be good scores?

OK I read rules again. I thought teams had to do entry and exit feature together in lifts. But ISU rules says 3 out of 4 features so you can choice either difficult entry or exit for level4. Short dance lift have exit feature and second free dance lift have entry feature (Ruslan's sit position will count as difficult entry) so both of them can get level4. Now it is Ruslan's job to hold 3 seconds.

I remember his face when they received the penalties last season. I think we will be good. :)

The pattern dance has gone from 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 for each level to 3.2, 3.8, 4.4, 5.0. So If you get only level 1, it's slightly less of a disaster, but the reward for level 4 isn't as great as it was. The new in hold partial step sequence is the same value as the old non touching sequence. The highest base value possible for the SD is now 29.7, so I'd say a good tech score is about 32+. PCS is the same, and so is everything for the FD - mid 90s overall is good, and over 100 is excellent.

Thanks! I don't really like that they have put less emphasis on the pattern dance.

It`s true that the pattern dance has less emphasis, but if you break it down, the steps (Ravensburger Waltz + partial step sequence) still make out 2/3 of the score in the SD and 40% in the FD. This weekend the Challenger Series starts, so we will soon see what we can expect regarding the technical scores. I`m glad I/Z have a later start to the season than the other top teams, so they can adjust their expections regarding their scores.

It`s interesting that they will skate against B/S before Nationals, but at least they will soon know where they stand compared to B/S. IMO, the burning question this season regarding Russian ice dance is not, who, between I/Z and S/K, will come out on top, but rather who the #1 is, B/S or I/Z. B/S surely didn`t come back to become #2 in Russia and I/Z want to keep their spot as #1, so I expect the fight to be very fierce. In the end it`s good for Russian ice dance, this battle will maybe just bring B/S and I/Z to new heights.

I'm still not sure which B competitions are they doing and if any at all. I know Saransk has been planned since May but that might've changed now.

Well, Elena said in one of their interviews that they have one month before their first competition, so that would mean they are doing Saransk. Maybe they changed their minds because B/S will be there?

I really want them to do one, since they need not only the ranking points, but also to present their programs infront of the judges without having the pressure to qualify for the GPF.

Right, I forgot about that. It was after the test skates right? Anyway, I don't think they will change their mind just because BS will be there. Maybe they will change it with Finlandia if S&K are really out. You never know with these B competitions. We'll see....Their first GP is CoC, right?

I saw in another article that was talking about the host picks (I can't find it now) that S/K are planning to debut their programs at Skate America, so that would mean they aren't doing Finlandia. I would guess that spot then goes to S/B if I/Z are doing Mordovian Ornament?

Yep. At least they will be the only Russian team there. I/Z got quiet tough competitions this year, but they do have the programs to be competitive with the other top teams.

Finlandia is probably to soon for S/K. I think S/B did Finlandia also last year.

Yeah, either IZ or SB will be there.
