Jason Brown

Has everyone seen Jason's tweet where he will not only blog from Ondrej Nepala (some day I'll learn to spell it, I saw the man skate, not that I remember it), but Snapchat as well.

OK, Facebook, check (that's for old folks like me anyway); Twitter, check (can be for old folks); Instagram (not so much, but I finally caved in for skating).

I can't do Snapchat too. That's what my nieces and nephews do. No can do. I'll read the blog.

Glad to see Jason doing the quad so well. When I was editing down the last fan video I made of him I was doing a lot of tweaking and moving around of jumps to match to the music and that lead to quite a few slow motion trial and error situations. Point being....watching so many of his jumps in slow motion and seeing and studying his air rotation I was kind of surprised he wasn't landing one yet. To me he had very nice air position and plenty of height. Glad to so it coming together for him. Hope it works well and he can get his choreography together.

Hello, I'm new to the Jason Brown thread. I became an Entranced Instant Fan of Jason's at Skate Detroit 2013 ... just watching him in practices! He was boogy-ing to everyone else's music. Among all the tense and/or concentrated faces, it was so refreshing. The Joy of Skating.

Thanks for that little get-to-know story, Jason really is a great young man besides a great young skater :)

I only have facebook out of these (and I flirted with twitter, but absolutely only because of figure skating), I didn't even know there was something called snapchat some minutes ago. Man, I suck at being young :laugh2:

I've had a look at snapchat but it was too much  But it's Jason so I think I'm going to have to face that challenge bravely this time!

Sam - if you have a chance could you do a slow mo of the quad? An FSU poster who's frequently critical of Jason insists it's really cheated - that he only does 3 rotations in the air, lands and pivots on the ice for the 4th revolution. I'm assuming they wouldn't have posted something like and almost no one else has made that kind of a statement that but I'm not a jump expert.

Okay so I downloaded snapchat but I can't figure out how to find or follow us figure skating. Hints? I did a google search and came up with some article (fairly useful but did not address question) which had a title like "what are all these young whippersnappers doing on snapchat?" God I felt old!

:slink:

I have snapchat, but I thought you just used it to send pictures to other people, I didn't realise you could follow people.

I'm not a jump expert either, and I'm not very good at spotting URs. But after reading that comment on FSU, I downloaded the insta video here , then uploaded it to Windows Movie Maker where I could watch it several times in super slo mo. Several times. I can't see what they are talking about, really. What pivot or spin? To me it really looks like he almost gets hang time up there, all backwards, before the blade ever hits the ice. Maybe I just can't see it, or maybe they're wrong?

At the main screen, which should look like a camera screen go to the bottom right icon (three lines) then swipe left.
There is a searchbox put in "usfigureskating" and then add.

When there is an update on that page, you will see a circle on the right of the usfigureskating name is listed. Tap on it. Jason just posted a story. But it will only last for a certain period of time.

When you go back to the main screen, look for the three lines to change into a colored box with a number. That means there is an update. Again to see the update, swipe left to get the friends screen and then click on the circle next to usfigureskating's name.

Jason just posted about 30 minutes ago. Basically each update with be a short compilation of videos and photos. Some of them will be annotated with text and drawings. It's a little story. :)

I think they're wrong, but it's hard to argue when you only have a low quality video. Looks fully rotated to me. I don't think that the tech panel would mark this jump for review. ;)

Sigh, turns out I can't get snapchat on my cheapo Nokia phone :'(

Thank you Mrs P! Done and done.

@TMC so far just a clip of him getting up with wild hair - but it does show the truth - he really does wake up that bright and cheery! And then a clip on the way to airport. ;)

ETA I agree it was almost too much to see him waking up like that!

Awwww, thank you for the video recap! If I can't see the real thing, at least now I can imagine it

I will do my best to keep you posted! But I'm at work so....

Re the jump - thanks to you and psusanne for your thoughts. Honestly Karne is such a stickler when it comes to stuff like this that I'm pretty sure she would have said something like - great progress but sadly it's still UR - instead of what she did say.

Of course what really counts is how it looks on Thursday & Saturday - so exciting! I'm glad they're leaving today just to make sure there are no problems getting into Slovakia, that they're all well-rested, etc.

RE: Whether the jump is cheated or not. Honestly, I don't know how anyone could conclude something that specific with a fuzzy video like that even if you put it in slo-mo.

Ultimately, the only opinion that matters is the one of the technical controller during the SP and FS. :D

Agreed - on to Thursday!

If memory serves, this particular FSU poster is almost always critical of Jason, so I'm not surprised. But s/he of course posted in a definitive way that he only had 3 rotations in the air, as if the matter were completely settled. The lawyer in me noticed, though, that while s/he said you can download such and so to view clips in slo-mo, s/he didn't actually say that's what s/he'd done to reach a conclusion, only implied it. So that's another reason to take it with a grain (cartload, actually) of salt.

;)

I'm always surprised how people have the time to go through so much trouble to post catty/negative comments about skaters they don't like. I mean I already spend way too much time just gushing about my favorites...
