Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

If I/Z had been to, say, Nepela, they probably would have gotten a similar score to C/B at Nebelhorn, although higher than W/P at Finlandia. Also MO wasn't even a full week ago, so I doubt that influenced their choices. C/B had solid scores for September, and W/P had good PCS, even if their TES was low due to mistakes.

I think their score truthfully would have been lower than C/B in the FD and overall because they did not execute the free totally cleanly and certain things were a bit off. I don't view this as any kind of problem this early in the season, but it is true. I do think they'd have scored better than W/P though in all likelihood.

Anyway, the bottom line is, I guess, these other teams are gonna do what they think they need to do and good luck to them... and Ruslena is gonna work on what they need to work on too and hopefully even better luck to them ;)

http://meetta.tumblr.com/post/131744410526/ok-im-probably-about-24-hrs-behind-the-entire#notes This explains a bit about the problems with W/P's SD (the person who wrote it judges in Finland & is generally a good source for this kind of discussion!). The biggest point for me is that they don't care if you go traditional or modern, as long as the rhythm is appropriate and you skate in the right style. Both of the pieces I/Z use are accepted in the world of ballroom dance as a waltz and a march, and in any case, the technical specialist in Saransk was Halina Gordon-Poltorek, the chair of the ISU ice dance tech committee, so if there are any problems, I'm sure she will have made them & their team aware of it.

LisaM, I made something that might help you to get to grips with the RW patterns! http://ach-nein.tumblr.com/post/131707361370/ravensburger-waltz-key-points-2015-technical

So, that was your tumblr that makes those awesome tech posts. Thank you! :)
Your post explaining all the difficult turns in step sequences was really helpful.

After SA I really hope we will not hear complains about "overscoring" Ruslena anymore, since it is possible that skaters within a month can get a new program and get +70 score. Not in a B competition but in a GP series. ;)

Elena's timing is perfect, that picture is just what I needed after what felt like everyone being ready to declare that there's a new Russian no. 1 team after one SD.

Sinitsina/Katsalapov are where they should have been last season. Katsalapov is just now learning the subtle art of skating with his partner. There are moments when he does his diva thing rather than presenting Victoria, but all in all given the investment of resources in these two, this was expected.

Let's get objective, the dance is lovely. The opening is slightly reminiscent of I/K's FD, the middle from D/W Giselle and then they stripped Step/Buk of their split lift. All in all it had to go well right? I'm hoping the FD will have more original material. ;)

I think this will only be good for all of Russian ID and especially for I/Z. Trust me their game is already lifted

Sorry though that Y/M debut didn't go as planned.

I agree with this assessment. Although Nikita's upper body is still sloppy in the twizzles. And we all remember what went down at Rostelecom last year. I/Z's dances are packed and aggressive. I love how people dethrone them already. Lena and Ruslan are hungry and this will bring out their best:)

I always roll my eyes about the overreaction to Nikita and Viktoria. After NHK, people were all doom and gloom and after a semi-decent skate they are the new No. 1 in Russia. They are training the RW since January, whereas Ruslena started in May/June with the training for the new season. I want Nikita and Viktoria to skate well, because I don`t want the Russian Fed to pressure Nikita and Elena to get back together. I agree, that they are now where Ruslena were last year, although they received here PCS that Ruslena get for a mediocre skate, like at GPF or WTT.

Those Ruslena pics

I agree... and I don't know where people are overreacting, maybe just in this fan fest, because everything else I read in other threads, although people liked SK SD, nobody suggested SK could be Russia's #1.

Okay, this is becoming really funny now. Just two weeks ago in this thread it was all BS being the russian no.1, now it's SK basically with a score similar to what IZ got in CoC last season. :rolleye:The "crown" is passing from one head to another with the wind speed. I feel like I'm watching a soap opera about middle-age England.
Keep those "panic button" in check people because it's gonna be a loooooong season.

FSO already have them making GPF and scoring over 70 at Nationals :drama:;) For me, they are about where the Shibs are - decent choreo, using a classic piece of music that is easy to get into, nice but safe presentation & without the special spark that a team like I/Z has (even if so far I/Z have been a bit more wild and unrefined...) and always with some lingering questions over technical levels.

The thing I loved about I/K and what I love about I/Z even more is that you feel whatever the performance, they skate with all their emotions and try to make you feel something as well as trying to accumulate points. That's what elevates a team into something special & S/K are not trying to do that yet.

I love drama
I'm just hoping the FD goes better for everyone, especially for those that made mistakes in the SD like Y/M and N/N.

Oh yes, it will. I mean, it was clear S/K would come back much improved, I wasn`t really surprised at their performance or score. The Waltz suits them very well and Zueva knows how to choreograph a beautiful Waltz, she has done it plenty of times.

When I watched S/K yesterday it struck me how different S/K`s and Ruslena`s styles are. In the end it`s what you prefer: the traditional or modern ice dance team. I know which one I prefer

TBH there is nothing, absolutely nothing, I like in that waltz. Less so the execution and performance, if we don't count the "smiles". Boring as hell and predictable in every step, starting with the "white costume" which I predicted since when I heard about their choice. In comparison TT waltz looks a masterpiece.
That's just my opinion though and a matter of personal gusto, so who cares in the end. My main point is that as far as I'm concerned Ruslena's main rivals are outside Russia and that's where my focus is, as a fan. I can give a damn about Russian soap operas. I was never interested in that during the 90s, imagine how much I care about it now. I'm 100% convinced that in the end the ice will do the talking. Everything else is Amstel.
