Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

Any word on whether she may have had a cold or something? Her coloring looked really off today. Thinking she'll be able to rebound given the competition, somewhat optimistic, then.

Sadly it doesn't seem likely- basically she skated exactly like this at cup of nice too.

I thought she was sick there? Maybe something lingering...or not. I also wonder why she doesn't have a new costume? Like I get she loves black, but at least switch it up a little bit...

Very sorry for her though - she is a fighter, and I hope this was just a fluke.

I thought the same thing - that either they'd overdone it with the bronzer on her cheeks, or she wasn't feeling well. She looked very pale. Maybe she's battling a sickness, or just nerves? Anyway, fingers crossed for the free skate. Evetually, her bad luck and nervousness must run out! I thought that program had nice potential if skated without mistakes and with a more vivid expression.

Imo, aesthetically, it wasn't as bad as Nice. She did have one clean jumping pass and landed the triple-triple on one foot. I know everyone's yelling disaster, but looking at the protocols, she seems to have lost a lot of points on levels--layback level 3, step sequence level 2... I'm not quite sure why, but I think these errors, at least, won't be repeated.

I'm quite sure the colouring was just the make-up (I watched from the HD TSN broadcast).

Perhaps Liza just needs some time to figure out how to compete as World Champion. I don't think it quite hit home last year, and she's just gradually realizing it over the summer. I hope she comes back fighting in the free; it's been a while since she needed to do that, but she has it in her, I'm sure!

She had a new dress at the Russian test skates - what happened to that?

She looked so sad in the K&C - Papa Mishin seemed to be trying to encourage her; I wonder what he was saying?

Yes I actually thought that was a very sweet moment between them- he put his hand on her shoulder and I don't know what he said but she did nod and smile about whatever it was :)

I had a feeling this was going to be a rough season for Liza, but she's been through worse. I see no reason why she can't fight this one out! :cheer2:

She has dug herself out of a hole before - and she can - and will - do so again. The main question being, really, when. I remember Papa Mishin saying, basically, that he expected that the season - or at any rate the beginning of it - might turn out to be rough. Also, that his students were somewhat behind with their preparations this season compared to where they were at this time last year.

Oh, I do hope Liza kills it in the free! Not so much for the possible placement - but it just breaks my heart to see her like this!

She's physically not 100%, whether it's fatigue or something else.

No idea what happened to her other costume though.

I'm pretty sure that Elizaveta can gain her form again at some point this season - I hope that it will happen before Russian Nationals. I wish her luck for tomorrow! The Peer Gynt FS has potential. :)

I don't quite understand Liza's skating. Is she sick or something?

That was my first thought too. She looked like every movement took effort.

Don't worry everyone, I'm sure our Queen will show everyone who's boss in the LP! :cheer2:

It was the coloring with the speed on the ice -- she looked slower than usual -- then seeing the protocols and all of the lost levels. I've been so excited to see these programs at full strength since the Test Skate, so I'm hoping things turn around soon.

Besides the missing costume, has there been any news about her 3Lo? It wasn't in either of her last two free skates or in the section she did in yesterday's run-though -- finishing with the 3S-2A+SEQ and the 2A. She's did the jump very well throughout last season, thought if anything the flip would be first to go if the 3A gave her the luxury of choice -- still hoping she can do an 8-triple program, pretty sure she'd be the first to do one under the IJS, no?

I'm quite sure Liza's loop is fine. She's never had trouble with the jump. I think she didn't include it because having that many triples in the LP could create stamina issues (especially since she only recently recovered 3A). Taking out the flip would make more sense short term, but a) I think she wanted to keep her "trouble" jump because she could lose it for good if she doesn't practice it constantly b) I don't have exact stats, but her flip might actually get more GOE than her loop; I personally prefer the loop, but edge jumps don't have the same lift and "wow!" of toe jumps.

Mao did eight triples in Sochi. Two of them were called UR (one which I reluctantly agree with, one which I think is BS, but that's another matter). I think Liza does want to try eight triples in the future, hence why she wants to keep her flip. :)

After the SP, I was so worried about Liza's health, but after reading this http://fsrussia.ru/news/1358-elizav...edi-proizvolnaya-programma-budu-borotsya.html , I was quite relieved.

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: "Ahead of long program, will fight"
October 31, 2015

World champion in the women's figure skating Elizaveta Tuktamysheva commented on her short program at the Grand Prix in Canada.

"We decided not to risk it, so I did not include triple axel in the short program , but still could not skate cleanly - said Elizabeth Tuktamysheva. - In training, I do a triple axel regularly. This jump turns out better than in the beginning of the season. Maybe tomorrow I will perform it in the long program, but discuss this with the coaches ...

While I can not explain the reason for such a short program. In training here all turned out better, more confident than in the other competitions. I jumped the triple axel. I felt that the body sporty - mine. I thought that, at last, get in shape. And this morning in training all worked out. A warm-up went on - not my body. I do not know why? Of course, difficult to enter this season. Not everything at once, but I will work to try. The main goal for me - it is the championship of Russia ... "

Figure skater added that it will not lose heart.

"There is still a long program. I will fight. Programs I have this season are exciting. Let's just say, for Halloween. They are different in style, but I like both, "- said athlete.

On a side note, adelia, thanks for your message!

She popped it at WTT and doubled out in the Test Skate, but I agree, she usually does it really well -- but between her and Yulia taking them out, I'm going through loop withdrawals (it's my favorite jump haha).

I thought Mao was the closest, but you've got to think Liza has the best chance of getting all 8 ratified should she attempt them (all 8 of Mao's looked clean to me, particularly the 2A-3T, but Liza likely wouldn't have Mao's edge issue on the flip/lutz).

Those quotes do sound encouraging. I've been wishing she would have repeated last year's schedule, but perhaps this slower build will be better in the long run; it has been a long year between competitions and touring.

Glad to read her interview! I hope she will be able to fight through it today and come out strong!!

(Plus I would still really love to see her in the GPF...)

Just hope today FS won't be a debacle like yesterday!
Keep calm Liza, stay strong and show the world your superb majesty...
