Alexander Petrov

I think he started out a little tense and nervous - understandably so - but then, the realisation started to dawn on him... "Hey, this is fun" and you could see him start to enjoy himself more and more.:)

I never knew about Alexander Petrov before last week-end at Skate Canada, when I became an instant fan. I absolutely love his skating. There's something so classical about it, and the depth of emotion and musical expression came from inside him. I just wanted to come here and say how impressed I am with him. It's hard to believe he's only sixteen. I'm looking forward to watching his skating for a good long while to come!

Wonderful words! Thank you. :)

And I thank you as well. :) I've only recently started watching the Grand Prix events. One of the fun things about it is getting to discover skaters from different countries with whom I wasn't familiar before, for whatever reason.

I also enjoyed Petrov this weekend! I've seen him before, but for some reason caught my attention during this competition! I agree with skylark, there was some very pure and clean about his skating.

Thank you for those words - and the beautiful things you had to say about him, and the lovely way you expressed it, on the men's LP thread. So heartwarming. I wanted to frame it and put it on a wall.:)

I discovered him myself last year, when, on a whim, I decided to watch a JGP, and he really stood out for me.

I'm glad he's slowly but surely adding a few fans. :)

Also:
Yay, Mrs P! :)

Wow, are you my twin? 'cause I could've written this whole post! :luv17: It was evident that the crowd enjoyed him as well. Looking forward to what he can do coming up!

Well, thank you. That is very heartening so hear, indeed. :luv17: When I "discover" a skater all of a sudden like that, I want to share it. I felt that way with Jason the first time I saw him, at the first practice at SA 2013. When someone shows pure skating and has such great musical sense, it is just thrilling.

LOL, I love it when that happens. :) I didn't even notice the crowd response, I guess, since I don't remember it. He's definitely a unique talent.

Small piece of news, his ISU profile has been updated. Benoit Richaud has been confirmed as the choreographer of that wonderful LP. I think he's very good and I'm so thankful Mishin started working with him.

Oh I'm so happy his programs at SC were well received! :) Like LRK I only started supporting Sasha last year.
This was the performance that made me instantly a huge fan:

That's the one:) - likewise for me. I started out with mild curiosity, and by the end of the program, I realised - to my surprise - that I loved it.:) One of my favourite programs last season, any category.

Now that Sasha is probably soon back home I started wondering, does anybody here know if he is in school at all at the moment? (since he graduated from somewhere last summer, correct me if I'm wrong …)

He is still listed as "pupil" in his ISU profile but he definitely does not go to school on a daily basis. None of the elite Russian skaters do. Maybe once or twice a week (if at all) or tutored.

thanks for the link; that was terrific. When he makes a beautiful movement, he seems to hold onto it so that we can enjoy the shape and the power of it. It's funny, because there's not really any more time passing. It's the illusion he creates by expressing a motion to its fullest extent and holding onto it (or seeming to) for a split second longer. Really cool.

I'm gad you like it. :) That Ljubljana program is very special to me, it was the first time in many years a skater (and a young one too) impressed me that much.

In other news... Sasha's name has been taken off the entries list for Volvo Open. So it's confirmed (as first mentioned in his short interview at SC) that he will not participate in any competitions until TEB.

They are probably using the time to make the quad as stable as possible, is my guess.
