2015 Cup of China Short Dance

The protocols are up and yes, C/B really got zapped. Like I thought, lost levels and didn't hit all their keypoints. No one got a level 4 for the RW OR the partial. Stickler panel. LOL.

Not too much of a strict panel- there should have been negative GOE on C/B twizzles. She was really off on the first set. I don't get ID judging at all...

I mean, I don't want to sound rude but
Do you guys agree with C/B PCS? I never considered C/B, especially Madison, having strong SS, especially compared to I/Z and C/L while they have 9.04 and I/Z have 8.13...
It was not their strongest skate yet they have quite a margin in PCS from others.

P.S. And yes, I love I/Z's Frida, hope they are clean tomorrow and go higher(though doesn's seem realistic unfortunatelly)

No, their PCS are inflated. Madi's SS are not even close to Elena's. But they are Worlds silver medalists, and already established team, so it's to be expected. Same goes for Anna Cappellini. In a year or two (maybe even sooner) with consistent clean skates Ilinykh/Zhiganshin will be getting 9's or close to it. People just expect too much from such a new couple. There's a big room to grow for them.

But I expect them to get higher PCS for their FD. And still to lose in PCS mark to both teams, who's higher then them. I like Anna and Luca's free dance this year too, it suits them really well, so maybe there's a chance for them to stay on top. But Chock/Bates should make mistakes, or this will not going to happen.

I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment. On the other hand, while Elena is one of THE best performers in ID, I've never been all that impressed with Ruslan as a performer. So it goes. De gustibus non est disputandum.

And sorry, even with neg GOEs on the twizzles, C/B would still be ahead of I/Z. See that I/Z got some 7.5s for that choreography, which I think is generous. On the up side, the Frida program is far superior. And so it goes.

So incredibly unbelievably happy! For me, Anna & Luca have the short dance of the season.

FD is another competition altogether.

I didn't see the twizzles, but if the execution was not simultaneous in only one set of the first two, the GOE should be reduced only by 1 grade. It doesn't necessary mean the GOE for the twizzles should be negative, there are other charactiristics of grading for twizzles, and the GOE we see in protocols from each judge is average for all the charactiristics.

I can watch Chock and Bates's Partial Step sequence again and again and again.

I would love to have another compulsory dance made with a foxtrot rhythms (the rocker foxtrot doesn't cut it. They have the midnight blues but it's not the same. Also 8 of the 24 listed dances are WALtZes)
With partial step, they can so make a new compulsory.

Hi!
I'm no Ice Dance expert, and on a personal note, Chock and Bates have never been my faves over the past years. I think their PCS are very high for what they're doing.
But anyway. I'd really like to understand more about the scoring. I'm not even going to try to understand and recognize the whole "key points" thing in the 2 Ravensburger Waltz sequences, but I'd really like to understand what happened here with the twizzles:
Chock and Bates got Level 1 instead of the Level 4 they were going for. Now, when I re-watch these twizzles, I see "a lack of unison", but no KO-criterium that would warrant the loss of all levels. Can anyone give me the specific explanation as to what happened? Thanks! :)

I believe she missed the grab on her skate. I remember thinking she might have missed it during the replay, but that it was hard to tell for certain because her skirt is so long. Someone else posted that she did, in fact, miss it. Anyway, thou shalt not miss the the hold of a blade if it is being used as a twizzle feature.

She did 3-turns during the first set instead of twizzles. That's why they lost levels.

Thanks a lot! :) So "missing the blade in the twizzle" apparently IS a "KO-Criterium" (loss of all levels)!

I agree...this season especially is tough for me, there were lots of expectation but TBH none of teams which I even like had brought it. All these SD/FD seems bland, empty and uninspiring for me (maybe except Gilles/Poirier FD). I'm disappointed by almost everyone. And cannot understand that hype for Chock/Bates and their PCS - this is for me one of most mismatched duos in ID history...

Some of the juniors to me have better SDs. Like McNamara/Carpenter.

Oh, ok... I'll re-re-rewatch the twizzles and try to catch it! ;) Thanks! :) (This is complicated!)

Yes, it looks as though she missed it or managed to catch it right at the very end of it, which would mean that she didn't do the required number of rotations with this feature, right?

... given this kind of situation, I'd love it if the ISU did publish some kind of statement by the technical panel in addition to - or even included in - the protocols. Like: "C&B lost all Tw levels due to ...".

Oh, yes, you are right. I just saw it on the slow motion replays. I thought there was something weird about the way she moved across the ice while I watched it for the first time.

Even if she wouldn't catch her foot for 4 full rotations, it would have costed them just one level.

Even if she would do a 1/4 (quarter) rotation without holding her blade, it would mean the feature requirements were not met.

Chock and Bates's PCS here very very close to their personel best. When Chock/Bates skates badly their PCS always rising. Don't you remember GPF last year they had a fall, but got 10s:laugh15: I don't know why they are trying to skate clean. Just skate badly guys. Judges will save you! :yes2::laugh15:
