Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I love face of one of the flower girls when Elena and Ruslan do their first lift in the FD. She's got this open mouth stunned and impressed look. It's too cute. She was my muse for this collage of Elena and Ruslan.

Beautiful!

I am trying to console myself thinking of the positives of CoC
1) I/Z FD is well received
2) I/Z did not skate their best but when they hit the levels who knows what will be their scoring
3) C/B subscription for the top scores maybe just expired
4) EU ice dance couple again on top
5) Ruslan is such support for Elena when she slipped aside he was so fast to support her.
6) More competition the merrier we
7) The less predictable worlds the better
8) Elena make-up from yesterday was perfect
9) Higher PCS than the rest of the RUS sweethearts
10) Comparing Cup of China and Cup of America the overscoring was not that huge just a little underscoring :)
11) The SD moved the public quite well.
12) Elena is still the best female ice dance skater I see out there
13) So solid twizzles (the BG tv commentator compliment the difficulty of the twizzles not putting the leg down, in my opinion the best twizzlers, of course shibs also)
14) Feedback to work on
15) They improved last years CoC placement

Well in general today they just had a bad day at the office (including flower penalty). I just wish them to enjoy their skating, to choose wisely music and costumes, to put more colors and shorter skirts.

And the version of the old lift they did at test skates looked so beautiful and secure.

I thought it was the same version? I have to watch again the test skate. I love this lift and I would be willing to take the -1 deduction also, but no mistakes. I don't know what happened in the exit here. :con3: It was a minor but looked a silly mistake.

This season they've gone for an even harder way of doing it - Elena facing out and leaning away, Ruslan less able to use knee bend on his skating leg to lower the centre of gravity. I'm sure they will get it eventually, but unfortunately in ice dance the judges do get into a mindset of ranking teams and so you don't really have the luxury of working your tech side out with a few wobbly competitions the way you do in singles or pairs. Sometimes, they could make life a little easier for themselves :)

True but the only reason that I could think of why they are taking this route is the one I mentioned. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense because they sure do have the knowledge and they know the problems.

From my favorite commentator Nathalie: I/Z's dance is difficult, it's very ambitious. You can tell they are still working to be comfortable, but it's a real dance [meaning not just a collection of elements]. She was really pleased with them.

I agree. It is a true dance and it's very difficult. I think they were also too nervous which made things even more harder. HB WD that way might've thrown them off a bit also.

Sorry, I meant in the SD.

Oh right. I fully agree with that. I loved that lift at the test skates and I always hated this lift, even last season. I don't like the position. They didn't have problems with the lift on the SD though here, did they?

Some people thought going in there was a small issue/bobble? I did not see it myself but I only watched twice, once live and once just for enjoyment not for analysis.

The SD lift they had at the test skates took too long, they probably couldn't finish it fast enough. They might bring it back at a later date.

They were a little wobbly on the entry of the lift in the SD at this competition, but I don't think it's a problem with the lift itself. This generally just wasn't their best competition.

In regards to GOE, aside from them being kind of tight in general, GOE is largely affected by reputation. They need to skate cleaner, and regularly, if they want to see their GOE go up.

That's what I believe too. I have to say I was very surprised and angry with the PCS in the SD though.

That is not what she said. She said the FD need work and was very rough all along. That they didn't have ideas comparing to DelSchoen's Frida at the beginning of the program. She wasn't harsh, she was real.

What does that even mean?

p.s. MarieM, I was beginning to worry not to read you here. It's always such a pleasure.:sarcasm:

This is the complete Nathalie's comment, that was published on IZ group. Unfortunately it's in russian but apparently Uhh is not the only person that heard the same comments from her. Not that Nathalie's words are the bible in anycase, mind you, but since we do not have the original audio and I do not believe a word coming from MarieM's mouth I think it's worth to copy the link here also.

I am fluent-ish in french if someone can provide a link, I can word by word translate to English but it would probably take me at least an hour.

It was an audio-video. She did the commentary on Eurosport FR. We need the video of their performance of Eurosport France. I checked their page but I can't find any video from CoC. Just the results.
I don't know about youtube though, or any french forum about figure skating?

p.s. They are so cute. :luv17: Elena I. Elena R. and Anna P. in China
Elena looks like anime here. :gclap:

MarieM might find it sooner than you think. LOL. Her stamina is Oscar worthy :drama::palmf::giveup:

It`s pretty tough to find anything else than British or Russian Eurosport. Btw, German Eurosport looooved Frida

Here is the one French forum about FS I know: http://www.passion-patinage.com/forum/

After reading her comments of the last few months I believe that.

Anyway, I rewatched Ruslena`s performance again and it was actually not that bad, but it`s great that they are so ambitious and know that they are capable of much more than they showed in China.

Ruslena are now #14 on the World Ranking List.

Simonenko loved it (don't know what happened with the guy this season being so nice with them this season ). Vaitch said she was a bit shocked when she saw they thought they did bad cause she liked it. Ruslan said something funny about this on his interview also.
I agree with you. I think it's good that they don't feel satisfied with the bronze.
