Guardian is basically saying the same thing as Reuters--everyone known has been accounted for but if course there could be more. Not sure if Canadian CBC has live reporters or they are just using another source. I would trust Reuters more since they definitely have tons of reporters there. Currently it seems the consensus is that they cannot confirm that all gunmen are neutralized.

So the prosecuter's spokeswoman is saying she can't confirm whether any gunmen are still at large and the police are saying they believe all attackers are dead. I suppose it would be hard to get 100% confirmation in situation like this, given the chaos.

Omg....this is a terrible, terrible tragedy. I live in France now and will go back next week, I have such indescribable feelings now, on one hand life should go on and not be terrorized into submission, otoh how to pay attention to a sport when there is such a carnage?

It is easy to hate them back, but we need to ask ourselves why these young men have been lured to the path of murder and slaughter, solve the root problem of hate and dislocation, or this will go on into our future claiming more innocents.

Wow, I'm in the minority here, but I strongly support continuing the competition. First, as many of you have said already, there really is no safety issue- the competition site is far from Paris. Second, I'd wager that many of the skaters, if not most of them, would be devastated to have the competition canceled. Finally, and most important, what good does canceling do? Since there is no safety issue, wouldn't canceling really just be catering to the terrorists? Couldn't glorious skating performances help uplift and heal at this sad moment?

I know you're just sharing what you have seen, sabinfire.

But my two cents are that I hope that a Canadian media outlet's unscientific survey that has received a few hundred responses will not influence the decision-makers one way or another. And that hope would be the same whether the results of the unscientific survey were against cancellation or in favor of cancellation.

If the Islamic State is responsible for this, it shows how pitiful and low they are. Attacking innocent people to somehow fulfill their cause of establishing a world full terror. Absolutely disgusting. Repulsive and repugnant.

Firstly, my thoughts obviously go out to those affected by the attacks.

With regards the TEB, I do expect today's competitions to be called off. Not just as a mark of respect, but as a precaution in case this event became a target.

But, what would happen if they are called off?

• Would the Free Skates be re-scheduled for some other time?
• Would the SP results be declared as the final results?
• Or would the whole event be declared null and void?

Given how packed the calendar is, it would be very difficult to re-schedule. It would be next to impossible to get a date where everybody was available.

But, the other 2 options would be unfair for the skaters.

Declaring the results as they stand after the SP would be unfair to those that didn't do well in the SP and thought they would have a chance to make amends in the FS (e.g. Liza).

But declaring the event null and void would mean that everybody would lose out, and would undoubtedly have a knock-on effect on who gets to go to the GP Final.

It is a difficult situation. And the ISU will be criticised whatever their decision.

Hope it won't be cancelled because the objective of terrorism is to bring terror into our daily lives and they would have won. My reservation is that a heavy heart would make it difficult for many skaters to skate like they normally would, and fans to enjoy the performances unaffected.

Hope for peace, stability and security to prevail in the Middle East. Chaos, wars and violence breed hatred which will not be contained.

Not to high jack the thread while we are waiting for news but there seem to be two issues talked about here....one is if the event should be canceled out of respect for those still living who are suffering and those who died.....the other issue is safety for fans and skaters at skating events. I know a bit about security and the security I see at skating events is pretty poor. Most dont use metal detectors and smuggling in weapons or explosives would be child's play. If a religious fanatic who hated the west and its "morals" wanted to kill French, American and Russian athletes, and their fans, it would be an easy thing to do..... Fortunately, if that is the proper word and its not, they would pick the highly packed soccer statium as we are really pretty small potatoes to the terrorists....and I think the danger from drivers using cell phones is much greater to my personal safety, but since I care about "my " figure skaters, it still worries me....We all remember Nancy K. being attacked...and MK getting streaked....its pretty sad but maybe it is time that security at all high profile skating events is increased.....
