TEB is Cancelled

As for Phil Hersh, why is he looking at GS right now if he's so caught up in the tragedy? It couldn't be just to find something to tweet about could it? After all who would have time to think about what controversial thing to tweet at a time like this? In fact I'm sure Phil could not just be trying to cause controversy to get clicks, since he's never done that before :sarcasm:

Let me say again: I find it to be obvious that one can fully appreciate the magnitude of the tragedy in Paris and still want to talk about the GP issues (which I do), and still be sad or even upset or angry that the event is cancelled (though I actually am not). I've lived in Paris, I have lots of close friends in Paris, heck I now live less than 3 hours from Paris. I fully appreciate what happened and the magnitude of the tragedy. It is going to take me quite some time to get over it. But I don't think that precludes me from engaging in a conversation on the GP too, even if the ideas and themes are rather trivial when compared to terrorism and death. I do not think there is anything to be gained by choosing to ignore these issues and instead laying in bed in a deep depression, only reading news about the deaths over and over, literally crying. It is okay to be able to feel the impact of the tragedy and pay attention to it and also to post here on more trivial matters. Human brains and hearts are complex and have room for both.

Yes, it is clear some people either don't understand or are not thinking about costs. For instance the proposal to move everyone to a different country, maybe China, right now, to have them compete in a few days. Who is going to pay the airfare? who is going to pay for room and board? Who is going to pay for the venue? It's not that it's the worst idea if money didn't exist in the world or was limitless, but since it's not the idea is just totally crazy I am sorry.

 this right here! fact of the matter is right now the only viable options are
A. Use SP results as final results for TEB
B. Add LP score to SP for final TEB results.

Cost wise, the rescheduling is out. Different country is out due to visas etc.
Tbh cancelling TEB was the right thing to do not just due to respect but due to SECURITY reasons- France needs higher police prescence at the moment in Paris to deal with the aftermsth and if the French felt they could not provide due to the current situation then they are right for cancelling TEB

Anyone got any idea how they're going to remedy the absence of a GP competition result when it comes to GPF? I'm sorry if it has already been posted earlier in the forum but I'm still shocked and feeling stupid, for not realising that yesterday's incident would have an effect on TEB. To be honest, I even forgot that the current GP was being held in Paris.

Hoping that the city of lights will be able to bounce stronger from this.

And these

Dear Philip, since I know you are looking in this thread, we are sorry for those that have fallen and we are sad for the people of France.

And while I personally agree with the cancelation and use of the short program places as final, people in this thread are discussing posibles paths that could be taken... cheers...

Yes, but to be honest, at such a time is this a priority? Letting people mourn, letting the authorities work at making their citizens safe and then letting the ISU board convene on Tuesday to find the best solution once the situation is calmer isn't really too much to ask, is it?

I'll take it a step further and say that we all cope in different ways. Maybe the distraction of talking about our favorite skaters helps us to deal. Phil is such a disingenuous excuse for a whatever he claims to be.

I´m not againts that. Actually I would acept whatever the ISU decide, whenever they feel have enough information to made the decision, but to have this guy judge the people in this thread is not ok.

I'm with Mr Hertz on this one. Who the hell cares??? It's figure skating. That's it. I'm only on this forum now because I was driving all day yesterday through the middle of nowhere and missed the news and was wanting to get the competition results. Now that I know. Who cares? The event is cancelled and I'm sure the ISU will figure something out later.

Can we add an extra long program session at NHK for these TEB skaters (dont know is any of them will skate in NHK as well).
Japanese loves figure skating and had tons of money. a few extra skaters and one more day of competition wont hurt them much (hotels and officials will be there anyway for NHK). They will love them. and the skaters in TEB will have some time to regroup.
it could also be a special memorial for Paris tragedy. And the gala could be combined.

Yes, this is part of what I am trying to say. I flatly reject the idea that just because we might want to discuss this we are heartless human beings who don't care about the people who are dead. I also flatly reject any insinuation that because we've posted in this thread we haven't engaged in the deeper issues regarding the attacks- I personally have, in many ways, and in fact did not even sleep last night.

I actually quite like this idea.

This comment is a big bull. France is in state of alert. If you think people would give a a damn about a GP FS competition you better wake up. What the hell does it mean "if the city doesn't feel to keep people safe"?!:rolleye: Do you think the city of Paris "didn't feel to keep people safe" last night?!:frown: What on earth are talking about?!

Don't feed the troll.

As for Phil. He's a total jack*ss most of the time. But for once, his responses on Twitter this morning have been pretty awesome.

Props to Phil Hersh.

Hi Philip Hersh, how did you know we're talking about the cancellation while you were busy with concerns for the victims. And I guess that you were too busy to notice that we're concerned and care about people in Paris too.
The fact is now we are being shamed for discussing topics - we are all horrified and saddened by the events in Paris. Many innocent lives were lost, all because of one groups radicalism.

I feel it's worth pointing out that although, yes, there are a few people complaining about the cancellation and saying that the event still should have happened, the vast majority of posts in this thread are looking at solutions of how to deal with GPF qualifications. The outcry seems to be much more about that issue than about whether or not they should have cancelled it. Like tulosai has said multiple times, it is possible for people to be upset and sad and angry about the attacks and still want to discuss figure skating. I was getting sick to my stomach reading about it last night and came to this forum to read about the possible impact to TEB to try and calm down a little bit. There are many, many expressions of sympathy and support for the people of France on this board, so I hope that people can see that we are not all single-mindedly worried about the competition and ignoring the actual tragedy.

Oh, I totally agree that there is nothing wrong with discussing these things. I do think though that it would be good for some to rein back indignation and the 'sound and fury' and just be a bit more understanding that at the end of the day there are no easy solutions and it is just a sport.

More reactions from Russian team:
Mishin suggests to solve scoring problem by either distributing TEB skaters among the remaining two GP events or by cancelling GP series all together. http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20151114/879334726.html

Yulia Lipnitskaya: Also against the proposed solution to count only SP scores as it would be unfair to some top skaters. Also states that they only learned about cancellation after the morning training session http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20151114/879335610.html

Tukt: Also worried about the proposal to count only SP and really wants to be at GPF but also understand the predicament. http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20151114/879333498.html

I like Mishin's first idea. The one on distributing them to the other 2 remaining GP events. Seems like a good idea (Though I'm sure a lot of people say it's not, and I understand why) because it won't be extra long.
