Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I heard they wanted to but it was a bit too late when they checked the video.:rolleye:

I mean in these cases though there is often no time to check the video, you have to first think to yourself, even in the kiss and cry, does this make sense? This involves all members of the team being totally honest with themselves and with each other. Especially for time deductions, which this was, where you really have to see the video and count it out, it can be hard, so I do have some sympathy for them in that regard, but at the end of the day you just have to really analyze whether you think this is legitimate, and if you don't think so you have to protest even if you can't find the video, and as for finding the video, that has to be your number one priority IMMEDIATELY, as soon as you leave K&C, and you shouldn't take no for an answer. I like Ruslena's team but in this instance I agree with bramwald, there is no godly way Zhulin for example ever would have let this happen to a team of his, I am sorry.

Okay, I am going to stop now because I know nothing can be done like I said above but it is quite disheartening.

Yes, let's stop. I think this will prove to be a character building experience for I/Z. I have a feeling come nationals, not only I/Z but S/B and B/S and S/K will come sharp and ready to fight for their places on the team, and sloppy mistakes will be a thing of the past for everyone. Hopefully we'll also have fair and balanced scores :yes2::yes2:.

Sorry I just saw the following from S/K fan thread. And mostly agreed with it so I'm putting it here. Really hope I/Z will improve. So fixing issues is more urgent than pointing their good things.

"Nikita is just so much better than Ruslan in skills. And in effect I think Zueva is a much more productive coach than Kustarova. Ilinykh is totally in charge in the Kustarova camp. She picked the music for both programs, she invited specialists to work with them, whereas at least Zueva this season successfully packaged S/K into this blue eye princess-and-prince thing she has been raving about for the past year in their SD. She deserves some credit. I'm not in love with S/K yet, but they have a better chance of progressing in my opinion. "

It`s really unfortunate that they didn`t discover the mistake in time, but at least the referee admitted her mistake.

So, I compared the GOE they received on the GP series with last season and it`s good to see that they improved especially their lifts and spin. Both their straightline and curve lift are already receiving more GOE than last season. For the spin they received a +0,86 at COR, whereas last season the best GOE they managed was a +0,69 at Worlds. So, there is already an improvement for these elements compared to last season. Those are all elements they certainly can improve on, especially on the combination lift, which they changed before COR, but it`s already a good sign that there is actually an improvement in their GOE compared to what they received at Worlds.

I know it`s easy to panic if we see what kind of GOE the other teams receive, but we have to consider that those teams either are skating many, many years together (W/P, C/L) or had more time to polish their elements (S/K). I`m not saying that everything is rainbows and unicorns, but I read a lot of negativity on different forums. Some of those things let`s it look like I/Z are barely capable to skate and that she should dump Ruslan for any guy who can toss her around like a doll.

It would've been enough to put them in 4rth place overall instead of 5th, behind G&F, and they would've got 9 points from COR instead of 7, thus 20 overall in the GP standings instead of 18. It would not have changed much maybe but you have to fight for each point. This is something that coaches should have done immediately, right within the 30 minutes time as per regulation.

Yes, that is true. 4th would have been better than 5th. I was thinking of the podium.... I agree though that this is an oversight by the coaches.

@bsfan:If you read the rules you would find that your comment is totally out of place in this thread. Sorry but you thought very wrong bringing a comment from SK thread here, which is also a speculation, and I'm reporting this comment.

Maybe we can cut bsfan some slack. The comment from the SK thread is not that bad towards IZ. It doesn't say anything really insulting, no personal attack and it doesn't use bad language. It is just an opinion and we can go ahead and just ignore it in this thread. A simple reminder to bsfan that this is an IZ thread should be enough. No reason to report the post.

Believe me I'm not easy with the report button. I have reported only 2, Abraxis an this one, the whole time I've been participating in this forum. I'm sorry but in this thread some people think they may come and say anything they want. Provocations, trolling, haters etc. I have thought many times to leave it but I do belong here and they do not. There are other topics where they can discuss whatever they want. If I want to know what is written about IZ on SK topic I go there. bsfan action it's provocation and I think we've had enough of those.

OK. I leave it up to your good judgment. You have been part of this thread a lot longer than I.

There's plenty stuff to criticize about I/Z this year, but most of that is just plain wrong.

If that person bothered to read any of the interviews with Ruslan, they'd see that he is just as interested & involved in the creation of their programs as Elena - maybe she came up with the original concept, but he's just as enthusiastic about working with Antonio, talking about the concept & researching Frida & Diego's lives. Kustarova mentioned last year how she wanted to work with Antonio for the paso even when she thought she was still coaching S/Z, because she admired his OD for A/P so much & she suggested it to I/Z. Elena's role was having the contact via Nathalie, but she wasn't controlling it at all. Elena didn't pick Arapov either, that came from Averbukh who has been involved with Kustarova's team for years. In addition, they've both mentioned in interviews how Kustarova is always working & refining the programs & about their respect for her. It's not Elena sitting there snapping her fingers & making everyone jump.

In contrast Nikita chose both programs this year and last - Zoueva said he wanted Swan Lake, he said they should use Io Ci Saro after seeing P/T in practice at Canton, last year was all about how the FD was "my style, how I want to skate" - him him him, there's never been a word from Victoria about the programs. And I'm supposed to be impressed & credit them for the most conservative way to approach the SD, that's so unoriginal it rips off two other iconic programs?

As for Zoueva being more productive - she's a lowest common denominator choreographer. Her stuff is easy to like on a superficial level & takes no risks, but it never tries to scale any artistic heights. Kustarova & I/Z have made choices this year that I don't 100% like or agree with, but I'd rather a team that has a real vision & concept around what they are trying to do than churning out a "prince & princess" SD & "I will always be there for you" FD that I've seen 100 other times from other skaters. I want I/Z to win stuff, but I want them also to create an identity for themselves & I wouldn't want them to sacrifice all that passion and creativity for bland programs that are only designed to chase after medals.

 I 100% agree.

It's true there isn't much time and there are difficulties. However, there are teams who has done it as they should have. Anyway, as you said it's done now but I was disappointed, I admit.

 I 100% agree.

So many teams are involved with their creative vision. W/P wanted Je Suis Malade, D/W always wanted Notre Dame. M/K chose their music this year. So many other teams do this. Why is this a problem with I/Z? Ruslan, also has dreams for their future programs. These people are just fixated on vilifying Lena with a view to boosting the PR for her former partner. But the more you get to know both her and Ruslan, you realize that it just doesn't fit. These people need to move on. There trash talk should also be kept out of this fan thread.

Lena Ilinykh must be one of the most intimidating figures in all of ice dance. You only see all this talk unless a person is truly extraordinary, which I think she is. Trash talk. Patience to the girl.

I look forward to her work as a coach and choreographer if she goes in that direction.

Doom and :hopelessness: . ISU Good interpretation example is Dubreuil and Lauzon's scmaltzy version of "At Last." :bang:

They make up for it in Choreography (purpose section) with Matt Savoie's brilliant LP to the Mission score.

Alba, thanks for posting this video on PCS! I'm learning a lot.

LOL, I see I'm not the only one who hates that FD with a passion. It was so sugary sweet it made your teeth fall out and it didn't do the great song justice at all, ignoring all the nuances of the music to focus on only the sugar. Eeek indeed that they see that as great interpretation. I have no problems with romantic programs, but they need to have some light and shade. D/L's Somewhere In Time FD had that and was IMO a vastly superior program.
