The dedication of Ruslena fans at RC was pretty impressive with all the banners and even the fans that styled their hair like Frida and wore Frida t-shirts too. Way to impress and show your support for Elena and Ruslan.
With their SD, I still think they need to change their costumes to something that fits the waltz and march music but has a rock chic edge to it. They need costumes that can help tell/add to their story in the SD because I think one reason people don’t like their SD is because they don’t understand what it’s about like the other SDs. For instance, Weaver/Poje have these beautiful, gorgeous costumes that give you an idea of what the story is (a lady and a count/prince at a grand ball) before the music even starts. Elena mentioned that she didn’t want to do a princess/prince theme and chose a different approach with rock music, so they should pick costumes to depict this and meld both parts of their SD music. Wasn’t there an interview in which Elena said something like the SD is about a guy and a girl at a party with their family, and when their family leaves and the music gets to the WWRY part and the real party starts

I think maybe they could approach it different. My interpretation on the dance (based on the lyrics of the song) is more like two people looking for love, they find each other, are set free of their loneliness, and then are ready to rock the word with their awesomeness and become everyone’s OTP

If this SD was on the ballroom floor like DWTS, I would say put in a costume change (e.g. like when a female dancer tears away their long skirt and under is a short-sassy costume or the guy takes off his jacket/shirt, or even how Alexa and Bindi on DWTS in their Chicago routine this season converted their black body suit to a flapper dress) when the STL transitions to the WWRY part, but ice dance has rules and this is a no-go. They just need to do whatever they can to get their story across since it’s something the judges haven’t seen before. One of the American dance teams posted a video on Youtube earlier in the season to explain what their free dance is about this season which I really liked (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCGpgftinHw ), so maybe Elena and Ruslan could try something like this for both programs. You never know if a judge or Figure skating commentator might watch and finally get enlightened. Case in point, one of the British Commentators said that he didn’t get parts of the FD because Elena and Ruslan were smiling; he stated that he watched the movie Frida, but he didn’t see how that fit. I was like, geez, Frida did have some fun, love, and light in her life so maybe that’s where the smiles come into play. The British commentators for the most part have really good constructive criticism for teams as well as compliments.
They still need more short-crisp and staccato movements and hard hitting movements (like in some hip-hop dances) at the beginning g of WWRY. Elena’s arm movements are too fluid where Ruslan has got it right IMO. I noticed that at the beginning of WWRY Ruslan gets a little far from Elena when they both turn and he has to skip/hop to get closer to her. He didn’t do this at the test skates and for me it looked better without the extra hop, so I hope he works on not creating so much distance that he has to do the hop. It just makes it look a little messy in that part IMO.
Someone posted a video of the comparison scoring segments of the FDs of S/K and I/Z.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXGBE9FCias It helped me to see little things that I/Z can work on like more ice coverage in lifts and faster rotations in the spin and rotational lift, so I hope I/Z and their coaches do a little cross comparison of other teams to see how they can get some better GOEs. I hope they also work more matching hand/arm/leg feet positons. They are probably working the butts off as we speak to make improvements in both programs.
Their Gala performance and RC was even more sultry and seductive in the beginning and ending parts than at CoC. Ruslan impressed be so much with his facial expressions like the hypnotized look he had when the music was at “I put a spell on you” and then the flirty look he had in the last part of the routine. The Blues SD next season is going to fit them really well; they’re going to melt hearts and the ice.
To end my ridiculously long post, I wanted to share this song that reminds me of Elena and Ruslan this season with their programs. The song is “Nine People’s Favorite Things” from the off Broadway musical [title of show]. Below are some of the lyrics.

We can either follow our instinct
Or take advice from every joker
We can either be distinct
Or wind up merely mediocre
But not me
Not me
When we set out to write this musical
We said we'd write a show that we wanna see
We knew we'd never please everyone
Remember that day at Gristedes
You said to me
You said to me
I'd rather be nine people's favorite thing
Than a hundred people's ninth favorite thing
Nine peoples favorite thing
Than a hundred people's ninth favorite thing
