Skaters Who Have Won All Grand Prix Events

One pop, but no falls or step-outs. (She was more prone to falls/step-outs than pops usually, IIRC).

ACTUALLY clean.

Watching her now she looks really slow in comparison to some of today's top ladies. But that camel spin position is to die for. Btw, did Sasha have a flutz? I can't tell.

I think speed is just much more valued under the COP than the 6.0 system. And yes she had pretty bad flutz, her flip and "lutz" are almost identical

Yes. Not too bad, though. Actually, I can't think of any U.S. lady of that era who didn't flutz.

GASP did Jenny Kirk have a flutz?

(I know Michelle sometimes did as did Tara. But I'm awful at detecting them without the slowmos).

Sasha was beyond great and beat Michelle and Arakawa that night.

As a side note, although this was "only" a cheesefest, these events were taken seriously by the competitors in those days and carried a $50,000 first prize for top lady and top man, same as the world championship.

Michelle missed out on second place (to Arakawa) when the Russian judge put Irina Slutskaya 2nd (instead of 4th or 5th like all the other judges), and put Michelle 4th. Ah, the good old days. Now, we don't know enough about what the judges are up to to wuz-robbed about it. ;)

I want to say she was clean at the 2000 Nations Cup but only the SP is on YouTube. Maybe one landing where she was pitched forward. I also remember her skating well at the GWG but not sure if she was totally clean or not.

Also, she did flutz. I don't know that I ever saw her do a correct take-off on the jump.

I think she was clean at the 2003 Worlds Qualifying round as well. She placed third there behind Kwan and Sokolova.

Irina won in 2002 and 2005. Unfortunately for her, Michelle skated her absolute best in 2000 and 2001 when Irina was also in great form.

True. However, as I was only counting their head-to-head record at Worlds, I wasn't lcounting 2005 as I was thinking MK had "retired" when actually that was her last Worlds and she missed the podium behind Kostner by the smallest of margins.

Also, IIRC that was the one and only time Michelle skated under the new COP scoring system.

I totally remember that performance. It happened when she was with Sarah Hughes old coach. Sasha was beyond great and beat Michelle and Arakawa that night. I'll find it hang on.

That was very bad judging. Arakawa should have won by a huge margin under COP. And should have won under 6.0 as well. Her skating skills and jumps are like another planet compare to Sasha. Even spins and steps are better too. Nothing Sasha does can be compare to Arakawa.

I wonder if Yuna doesn't want to skate in NHK or NHK doesn't want her. As World champion, if her first choice was NHK, wouldn't they honor it?

As amazing as Yuna was, she's never won Skate Canada either. I guess she doesn't care for SC and NHK.

Here is a Sasha anecdote (true, I believe).

After Sasha retired she enrolled at Columbia University under the name Alexandra (Alex) Cohen. One day there was a test in her political science class on "Social choice modeling" -- how do societies as a whole make choices when there is disagreement among individuals. The test question featured a figure skating example where the "society" was the panel of judges. It was a situation where Michelle Kwan had to beat Irina Slutskaya for Sasha Cohen to win the top prize.

Sasha wrote on her paper, "I am Sasha Cohen -- do I get extra credit? :laugh;

Something to do with the seedings, I think? Certain skaters aren't supposed to be assigned to the same Grand Prix events.

Hmm, I thought Plushy was on this list, but I appear to be wrong. His wikipedia page lists victories at CoR, Lalique (was this the old name for TEB?), Skate Canada, and Sparkassen/Bofrost. Remarkably, that incredible silver at Skate America when he was only fourteen was his only outing at that event! (I guess the USFS didn't want a Russian men's champion of that event?) He never competed at Cup of China.

C'mon Plushy, come back for one more season and go win Skate America and Cup of China

Yes, Trophee Eric Bompard used to be Trophee Lalique.

Typically, the three medalists from the previous world championships are seeded to different GP events. NHK Trophy usually hosts their best performing Japanese Ladies skater from last season which may conflict with Yuna Kim since the Japanese have had a lady on the world podium for nearly the last decade. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they treated Kim like a hot potato since she could win readily win valuable GP points in the NHK after taking a season off.

I always thought Shizuka was severely under marked. She didn't have the greatest extension and sometimes under rotated the second jump in her 3-3's, but like you said her SS were exquisite. Fortunately, she won the two biggest prizes in the sport so her achievements put her along side other champions like Lipinski and Baiul.

Yuna hadn’t been invited to two countries Japan and Canada(except 2006 she was no threat to them). They had their favorite skaters at their country. Asada and Joannie Rochette. Do you think Yuna had Power to reject when they had invited her to their country? I don’t think so. She is from very small and weak fed. The feds are greedy not yuna’s fault. By the way the japanese hate the Korean and vice versa.
