Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

My figure skating knowledge is pretty limited so please tell me, what if they are out of euros? Does that mean it is the end of the season for them and they can start thinking about next season already (new programs etc.) or will they still have some smaller competitions in this season? Thank you for the answer.

They would be the reserve team for Euros and Worlds, but they could already start with the preparation of next season, e.g. learning the Blues pattern, working on new lifts, basics etc.

If they change country, they have to sit out the GP season, but could come back for Euro or 4CC if they decide to compete for Kazhakstan and Worlds. The downside of this is, that none of these countries have the political power Russia has and Ruslena are actually strong enough to compete for Russia.

Well, this really stinks. I'm going to leave it there for now and take some time to regroup, as I hope Ruslena are too. What a horrible outcome.

Look at it this way, B/S were fifth (by luck) at the GPF, S/K have to learn how to deal with pressure. Good luck getting three spots back...

I don't think they need to change the country. But just for fun there is Spain. ;)

Yeah, that part about dealing with pressure is really an issue for both IZ and SK. It was the first time SK had the pressure to win and they only had the 5th best TES in the FD.

And Spain is very supported by the ISU. Would the Russian Fed even release them though?

You mean if they would release a skater that is the reigning Olympic Bronze Medalists? I don`t think so. I just don`t want them to do something crazy, like breaking up or retiring. :(

I think the only possibility would be if Ilinykh has double citizenship, since she was born in Kazhakstan, but I don`t know how the laws regarding double citizenship are in Russia. But I agree with tulosai that the Russian Fed would fight a release of Elena with tooth and nails, because regardless what those PCS say, she is the best female ice dancer out there.

Why would they do that? There are no reasons for them to quit or break. They are so young and in their second season together.
Change the coaches. They are replaceable. Partners less so.

That`s my opinion, too. I should stop reading too much into what certain poster write

I remember that when IK left Zhulin, there was a pretty big push from the Fed and parents behind the coaching change. I guess if there is a change, we will find out in a few weeks.

I wonder if they will do it though. They seem soo attached to their coaches. And that isn't always the best thing.

Exactly, BS are the Fed's best bet. Personally the Russian teams, IZ included, will have a really hard time placing well at Worlds. BS has the best chance probably, so likely the Fed chose well.

I know, that`s why I doubt they will do it, but Elena is also the girl who moved to the US with 12/13 to improve her skating. IMO, they need a coaching change, they need someone who plays the game and who knows how to play it.

I'm just wondering- who could they go to? What is their best viable option?

Dream maybe, Dmitry needs to rest his knee. Let places 2-4 go to EC and the victor there goes to worlds with B/S? Hehe, hope dies last.
