Interesting indeed. Alas, fan outrage and the observations of sports writers don't actually have any effect. While it's heartwarming to see that Ruslena have enough fans to start a petition that gets noticed (and that they/we are smart enough to see the sneaky scoring), I can't see a scenario in which it does anything except make headlines. I hope Elena and Ruslan are at least consoled by the knowledge of how many of us ordinary folks adore them and wish them well!

Stepanova and Bukin's coach is already making waves that they should be sent to Euros because Lena made a mistake and it should be in the name of sport. I'm wondering what is going on behind the scenes. How good is I/Z's shot to go to Euros?
Not very, but I say don't force things. Difficult times like these tend to make athletes hungrier for success.
Remember what Olympic near misses did for V/M and W/P, I wouldn't worry if they don't go to EC. The hate they would get in the press from all their well wishers in particular Stavisky, Besti and TAT wouldn't be worth it. Their own country minus their fans would crucify them. This is Russia. Let them just quietly go to work.

I just wonder why S/B's coach is starting in already. And the article was interesting to me is all.
Fear, because we all know what happened is just dishonest. S/B skate like a junior team in comparison to I/Z and he knows it. He couldn't even mention them by name, the fourth place dancers, LOL. But I say if they want to play us like that let them. What goes around comes around. He will remember this day the next time the shoe is on the other foot.

Since the scores are joke then they have to chose the teams based on placement. Ruslena 4-th in SD and 2-nd in FS then they are third. SB 3-rd and 4-th then they are below Ruslena based on the placement. Solid children logic.

I know that nothing will be changed (except me supporting WP at the Worlds), it is good to have articles and fans that speak about the scoring because the injustice have to be corrected or at least to cease in the future. And if everybody is acting like not noticing then this will continue. And if the funding of the couple is also at stake it is a reason more to be paid attention to this.
Being the highest scored RU couple in Worlds last year in their first year together, having so many fans not only in Russia and choosing so difficult programs is a great contribution to the Russian Ice dancing reputation. Ruslena deserve at least the respect and the right to be scored based on the performance not on errors history or at least to have one and same standard in the scoring for all couples (especially silver one). So they are more than worth to be chosen for Euros not that this will compensate their underscoring.
Also is there a possibility that BS will be given a break for the Euros?

I have wondered this too. If they will have him rest the knee. Than have I/Z, S/K, and S/B skate it out.

So now that they have about 10 months to get their stuff together, could they work on an real exhibition program please, but of course still work on all the things we mentioned before. I love the beginning and end of their "I put a spell on you" so maybe an exhibition along that lines. For next season's FD, they might try the film score route again, but with music that does a better job of drawing people into the program. When I saw Frida way back when it first came out, I wasn't drawn to the score like other movies, and that's because I am a big film score fan. They did a great job of selecting the pieces from the movie but there were was 1 or two songs I wished they would have used too. There are some great film scores based on novels like Pride and Prejudice where they have these definitive characters the general public are familiar with or at least they might know from the movies having run on TV multiple times or are on Netflix. I think others have recommended the music to that movie as well as North and South. I think Elena and Ruslan could do a brilliant job interpreting characters from both these novels. With the Frida FD this season, I think Ruslan portraying all the men in Frida's life rather than just Diego was one of the reasons some people had trouble connecting to the program and not understanding what there story was beyond Elena depicting Frida.

Ok, Abel korzeniowski has had some of his film scores like W.E. and Romeo and Juliet used lately in figure skating. Well, he has also created a brilliant gothic score for the horror drama TV series Penny Dreadful (one of my current favorite shows) that I think would suite Elena and Ruslan perfectly. The music is haunting and builds at different points and it has this Neo-Victorian vibe that hasn't really been used in ice dance.They could portray Vanessa Ives (formidable and seductive, clairvoyant/medium) and Ethan Chandler (American sharpshooter, moral character with dark secrets). On the show, they join up to defeat these evil forces and there maybe some romance (don't want to spoil too much if you haven't seen the show), and I think that's something they could depict in a 4 minute span and get viewers entwined in their performance and story. The show has beautiful costumes that they could copy or use for inspiration, and therefore better FD costumes compared to this year. This year I rated their styling/costumes at a C-/D this season.

If I understood this article correctly, they have to go to the Cup of Russia Final. So they can't even start to prepare in peace for next season.

Eh, S/K were supposed to last year, (the fed was explicit about them needed to do more competitions) so was Yulia and neither of them did. If they do decide to do another competition it should be an international so they can get more ranking points.
I expect they'll keep training for this season until Euros in case they are needed as a substitute, but then just call it a day & work to next year instead.
