Well that answers that! Thank you. A big part of me felt that if they were at 4CCs they should be the "Asian" team but if they are not part of 4CC, i assume they got Europeans so that option is out.

I actually have no issue with the NK team competing, if anything i would love it and would want to welcome them with open arms. But the cynic in me fears that NK might string us along till the last minute then not let them compete for some stupid reason. I feel like they are fully welcome, but I don't want them to pull stunts that end up costing another team the chance to compete, or string another team along. I wish that if they say they will be there that i could believe them.

You would be surprised how popular figure skating is in North Korea. I saw a video of Plushenko performing there for Kim Jong-il's birthday. China's SZ was there as well. The crowd went wild!

Per the TCC announcement, Feb 10 is the deadline to accept invitations -- for skaters invited on the basis of their ISU World Standings.

Men and ladies who are invited based on the fan voting have three business days to accept their invitations.

ETA:

It still would be possible, I suppose, for skaters to withdraw at the last minute.

But they would have been required at an earlier date to actively affirm their acceptance of their invitations. So barring injury or another legitimate reason, the moral obligation to show up and compete seems higher to me.

So I really hope that no one will withdraw at the last minute without a legit reason.

Not going to lie, I am severely annoyed that a North Korean team who've competed internationally all of what, once? Twice? are going to get the nod for this competition but Team Australia isn't allowed to be part of this. :furious:

I am confused...so why would the official website say this????
"Online fan voting will begin immediately following the announcement of the Captain’s Picks and will conclude one week after the 2016 World Championships"
How could they "accept" before Feb 10th?????

... Selection Process
ISU World Standings (as of January 1, 2016) will be used to determine the 2016 Team Challenge Cup field of competitors. The top two singles skaters (ladies and men) and top two pairs and ice dance teams from each continent will be invited to participate at the 2016 Team Challenge Cup.

*The top two invited athletes/teams may not be from the same country.

The final singles athletes (ladies and men) for each team will be determined by a fan vote. Up to five skaters (both ladies and men) will be nominated by the Team Captains from those skaters who are entered in the 2016 ISU World Figure Skating Championships. Online fan voting will begin immediately following the announcement of the Captain’s Picks and will conclude one week after the 2016 World Championships. The top male and female vote getters from each continent will be invited to compete.

Happy New Year, Chris :).

I think you have been overlooking the key word of "final" in your OP (my emphases added above).

Fan voting will determine only the third man and third lady on each team.

All other skaters (including the first two men and first two ladies on each team) will be invited next week (first week of Jan) -- based on their ISU World Standings, as explained in your OP.

(Post #5 of this thread had previous discussion of the two types of invitations.
Gracie is one of the skaters who will be invited next week.
She will not be part of the fan voting.)

Happy New Year to you too! Guess I get an F in reading comprehension again! Sigh....how the heck did I get three college degrees? Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in awhile. I guess! ;)
It didnt help that I went right to the end of the thread and didnt read the middle....

So what is the definiton of a fan?

For the purposes of the TCC voting, USFS has not (yet??) publicized any litmus test for "fan," AFAIK.

FWIW (not necessarily relevant), for the annual USFS Readers' Choice Award for Skater(s) of the Year, anyone can vote, IIRC. No need to log in to anything, no request for the voter's name, nothing like that. Anyone can vote, and anyone can place multiple votes.

But I have no idea whether USFS will have stricter rules for TCC voting.

This will be interesting....if it is like Dancing with the Stars, well, Certain people MAY vote more than once.....

Out of curiosity, how would you vote for the third spot?

-the next strongest skater for the team you want to win? Example: Shoma (he'd be my pick anyway since I like his programs)
OR
-the skater who has the program you enjoy most regardless of their consistency and/or scoring pontential? Example: Amodio

Well for me my first choice will be for skaters who would not normally get to do a team event.

So for Asia men Misah Ge is hands down my choice. He is a top skater but has very little chance to ever be on a team event, which is a shame as he was practically made for one. I would love to see him in the Kiss and Cry with everyone.

I think sentimental favorites also might get some votes. For instance I could see Mirai Nagasu getting the fan vote for North America.
I am not convinced Evgenia is a shoe in to be honest, especially if she wins worlds. She may have other interests. I could see Adelina or Yulia getting the European vote - although with Carolina Kostner coming back, she could also stand a chance, especially if she is against three Russians as that could fragment the votes.

North American men i would think Patrick Chan is almost a guarantee to win the fan vote if nominated. If not... who knows, so much could depend on how they do at Nationals. There are so many American and Canadian men that are more than good enough.

I, for one, want to see Elena as the fan pick, but I would also enjoy seeing Adelina, Yulia, Evgenia or even Carolina (slightly unlikely, but possible), so I will be pretty happy with any outcome. For the NA fan pick, I want Alaine Chartrand or Karen Chen to get it. It would be great if Mirai got it as well. For team Asia, Rika, Mao or Zijun would be my preferences. Really can't believe Elizabet is higher ranked than Zijun, but... I guess she is? In dance, my picks would be the Shibs for NA and Ilinykh/Zhiganshin for Europe.

i was surprised too but looking at their past seasons it makes sense, Elizabet was never off the podium last season except JW and this season at GPS she placed 4th and 7th whereas Zijun placed 7th and 9th, and also Elizabet competed at 3 CS event and got silver medal at all of them (only 2 of them counts though) and Zijun didnt compete at any Senior B (thanks a lot Chinese Fed :disapp:)

i still cant believe she will be at TCC!!! :yahoo::hap57::hap93::dance3:

Only Evgenia is eligible though, right? Or did they update the rules? I would love to see Yulia or Adelina on the international stage again, but neither of them are (presumably) going to Worlds and won't be eligible for voting. I don't know if Carolina will go to Worlds though.

possibly :hijacked:, but...

Turkey does compete at Euros - I remember enjoying seeing Tugda Karademir (now retired). Sila Saygi is another ladies' skater. There's also Ali Demirboğa in men's, who has as yet failed to qualify for the free program at Europeans. I'm not sure if he's retired or not, does anyone know?
In ice dance, Alisa Agafonova / Alper Ucar have a 12th place finish at the 2014 Europeans (improving from past years).
So overall, not a bad showing for Turkey, who's pretty new in figure skating, IIRC :)
