2015-16 State of Russian Ladies skating

There is no serious proposal whatsoever for Russia to compete at the 4CC...

I would be fine with Russia sending a team to 4cc, it would make it a more interesting competition. I would stipulate that they could not send the same skaters to both 4CC and Europeans though.

This would give Russia way too big of an advantage when it comes to accumulating standings points... .and really the 4CC has typically been more competitive(or potentially more competitive if top people hadn't skipped)... having Russians skate at the 4CC would make it too close to the World Championships.

I hate to be mean, but seriously the idea of Russia skating at both events is kind of nuts and I can't believe there's a whole 1-2 pages dedicated to the idea.

They wouldn't. They would split up their skaters and still have A-level teams for both competitions. It's hugely unfair to Asian skaters - e.g. Japanese skaters who don't make the 4CC team aren't able to compete at Europeans. Russia needs to decide one or the other (obviously Europeans). You can't represent two different continents and exploit the fact that you are transcontinental from a geographic standpoint.

If most of Russia is in Asia, then Russia could be part of 4 Continents, but it could not compete in Europeans. Russia is not about to give up its sure domination in Europeans for a possible loss to Japanese skaters at 4CC.

Countries already don't send their best to compete at 4cc's. Sending the Russians would only increase this to a whole new level

Even if they only sent the juniors they'd probably still medal :whack:

And it would make no sense. Four Continents was established as the counterpart to Europeans. Way back in the day, non-Europeans were allowed to compete at Europeans. After Dick Button won or sometime thereafter, entries were restricted to Europeans only. 4CC's is the competition for the rest of the world (not established, however, until 1999). If Russians are allowed to skate at 4CC's, then why wouldn't non-Europeans be once again allowed to skate at Europeans? (Never going to happen). And they would have to change the name from 4CC's to 5CC's.

And they would have to change the name from 4CC's to 5CC's.

Why would they have to change the name? Russia is part of Asia, one of the 4 continents. They wouldn't have to include Europe as a 5th "C" just like "Europeans" isn't called European/Asian to accommodate Russia now. I know Russia will never be allowed into the 4CC because of the unfairness of allowing only its skaters to attend both events but from a purely selfish fan perspective I would love to have a chance to see Medvedeva, Pogorilaya, and maybe Tuktamysheva at Europeans and Radionova, Lipnitskaia and Sotskova or Sotnikova at 4CC. And finally, since we are on the mini-topic of which contentment championship a country should participate it, why is Israel allowed to send athletes to Europeans instead of 4CC, when last I checked Israel was still geographically located in Asia and I doubt the country has just up and moved ;)

Lipnitskaya, Ilinykh, Kavaguchi, Kovtun, Bazarova, Larionov, Tsurskaya, Fedichkina.

Fedichkina is originally from Rostov-on-Don which is in Southeast Russia, close to Ukraine, way East of the Ural mountains which is typically used as the division line between "European" and "Asian" Russia. Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk would be the Easternmost cities in the Asian part. Skaters from Perm are just East of the Urals, so if Russia was really trying to make this 4CCs thing happen maybe skaters from Perm would be considered as I know there are a handful of them.

Technically/geographically, part of Canada (St. Pierre and Miquelon) belongs to and is governed by France - and it would be unfair to send Canadian skaters (none of whom hail from St. Pierre and Miquelon) to Europeans accordingly. :sarcasm:

OT but How is St. Pierre and Miquelon "part of Canada"? It's a French territorial overseas collectivity. People born and raised on these islands are French citizens and would compete at French Nationals thus be eligible to compete at Europeans for France.
I am from one of these Overseas French territory and it annoys me when people think of us as less French those who live in "Mainland France".

Because 4CC's is supposed to represent everything except Europe. If Russia were allowed in, then it would involve a 5th continent. The whole reason for the existence of 4CC's is to have a competition for countries outside of Europe (and thus not eligible for Europeans). Russia is in Europe and considers itself European for figure skating purposes (and always has). I suppose if Russia wanted to call itself Asian and not skate at Europeans, it would be eligible for 4CC's. But that would never happen.

Sugarpova, I like reading your comments but really don't get this part. Who exactly is sick of that? Last I checked, Elena, Evgenia and Anna (to a lesser extend, sadly) get probably the biggest amount of love in here, so could you please elaborate on who is sick of them winning? (apart from trolls, and you know what they say: never feed the trolls!)
oh obv I didnt mean seriously 'sick'
Its just that its boring to see a comp dominated by 1 or 2 countries. at least to me

Its great that Euros have someone like Javi who represents such a non dominating country.

Im excited about Kostner coming back (she's back right??). there will be some Euro ladies competition coming!

Came across the sweet vid about the ladies I still hope can perform well at the Cup finale & at least 1 can have a chance at worlds

Sorry I should have stated the other way around. Because St. Pierre and Miquelon are part of France but also part of the North American continent, it would be rather unfair to send French skaters to Europeans AND Four Continents accordingly.

Awww, that's such a lovely video - thanks for sharing! Yes, I'm sure "they will fight".:)

It still astounds me that two reigning OGMs and the reigning WGM can't make the world team. That level of depth is insane.

Au contraire, what it says is that once Russian ladies pass completely through puberty, they can't compete with those who haven't done so yet.... :sad21:
