2015-16 State of Russian Ladies skating

Shcherbachova is too young for juniors next season. Her date of birth is March 2004. She will become junior eligible in 2017-18 season. Solovieva did not have a good season and did not manage to qualify to junior nationals. Her Russian cup events results were just not good enough.

Question for anyone who knows, I noticed that the Russian skaters will have different team jackets. Like say Elena wears a different jacket than Liza T. Does the team jacket worn by Russian skaters mean anything or do skaters just get and use whatever team jacket they prefer?

At the WTT trophy, they all wore the same outfits, right? And maybe at the Olympics too? (Can't quite remember.)

Other than that, I'm guessing they can wear whatever jacket they want. If they're anything like the rhythmic gymnasts, they probably have like 20 Bosco official team gear outfits. My impression is that the skaters choose to wear different jackets on purpose (to stand out from each other), and actually Elena R. has chosen not to wear a Russian team jacket at the press conferences several times.

I think it is preference... Although sometimes at National Competitions (I know in sports like Gymnastics this is done) they will wear jackets based on their coaching teams or their club. But internationally I don't think that's the case. But that's an educated guess! :)

I think every year or every a few years there is a new design. At some bigger competitions (e.g. Olympics) they are told what to wear (which is the newest design, made specially for the Olympics) but otherwise it is up to them whichever official jacket they wear.

It's funny how the current state of russian girls in skating is similar to what romania had in gymnastics during '80 and '90. I studied intensely the romanian phenomenon in gymnastics after Nadia and except a couple of girls the majority of them were really on top a few years, like an olympic cycle the most.

Few of them, the ones that were great, artistic and with good/clean technique survived to compete in two olympics and even then with big pauses.

Also some of them, branded as wonderkids, delivered one big time or two and after struggled with injuries and were easily replaced. Simply because we had legions of them.

I had the chance to listen to octavian bellu, at a conference once and he said that during that time romania could form 2 national teams that could place 1-4 at WC.

Just like russia now in women skating or like usa in women gymnastics. How the things have reversed!

The things for us went south after the "small" romanian coaches left the country for usa or better places in europe. That really killed us. The kids were "hungry" for succes and greatness but if you close facilities and don't offer them specialists to prepare with is all for nothing.

So for those who are worried that some of the russian girls shine once or two times and after they get buried i have this message: only the special ones get to be dominant.

Think about Aurelia Dobre, the 1987 world all-around champion. She wowed the world with a clean technique as well as balletic and artistic qualities, but her career was quite short because of two major injuries and a growth spurt. And there were so many like this example.

So back to russia, if one or two of these amazing youngsters get to be special ones, to dominate for some years like mao, yuna, michelle, then is more than enough. The system has paid. To be honest, I think all of us want to have a system like that in our countries :)

The Cup final suddenly became the major comp for a lot of skaters!:hap10:

yeeeeahh I hope Liza recharged her batteries!@:hap10:
Or Julia!
Or Adel!

If I'm Liza right now I probably would be thinking really positive about my chances on being on the world team at the moment. The third spot is in her hands right now, she just needs to skate well at the Russian cup.

I think a terrible Liza is no worse or different then a terrible Anna but a clean Liza is certainly better then a clean Anna. A clean Liza is on the world podium, a clean Anna maybe not. If I were the Russian fed. I would take the risk with Liza.

Yeah, Anna's bombed every single international competition she's had and Tuktamysheva is the defending world champion. It would make sense if she skates decently at Russian Cup Final. I really would like Tuktamysheva to start doing well, she might be my favorite Russian lady when she's on.

But Liza has Olympic potential. Like, out of all the eligible for the Olympics (including current juniors) she has the biggest potential because of the 3A. Would you rather her take a MUCH needed break and prepare that 3A with consistency or have her due sub-par at World's, finishing in the bottom part of the top 10? Because a consistent 3A, along with her two Lutzes and toe loops would be incredibly dangerous.

Good analogy, I completely agree with your observations.

The Russian jackets aren't just per individual sport? I'm pretty sure I've also seen the Russian artistic gymnasts wear the same ones. I suppose the Rhythmic gymnasts do too though I don't follow that discipline. The Skaters don't have club/team jackets because they don't compete as teams. Artistic gym competes a team competition based off federal districts at nationals/Russian cup.

Now here I'd just like to point out that Tsurskaya has serious 3A potential for the olympics as well.

But Yulia is more reliable than both for the SP and I would hope that the Fed gives the nod to Yulia IF she proves that she's improving just as much in the LP since RN as the difference between TEB SP and Rus Nats SP.

Last season was completely different but unless Liza shows improvement in the SP I don't think she should be favored considering Yulia was also de facto world champion and the #1 world rankING skater last season when she was dropped. I just hope they don't have double standards but that who've performs the best out of Anna at Euros and Liza and Yulia at Russian Cup Final gets the nod.

^Meh, this season is too much of a clusterfiesta in the ladies field as it is. As much as I'd love to see Yulia on the international stage again, I don't think she is going to competitive enough by worlds anyway...at least not enough to challenge for the podium. Liza really is the one in the better position to make a comeback, as her technique is mostly there...and it's just her mind playing games with her. Yulia is reworking her technique, and her goal really should be to just get in a good long program. It's been a while, but I have a feeling that she'll finally be able to pull it off at this competition. I'm more excited for next season, and I hope that Yulia will be renewed and at the top of her game. But hey, if she's really going to go lights out and conquer the rest of this season, more power to her...I can get on board with that  I'd love nothing more than to be surprised, and I'd gladly eat my words if she can come back strong (who am I kidding, fingers are crossed!). Ughhh, no matter which way it goes, I'm going to be sad as heck since I like all of them, including Anna :palmf:

The Russians are not invincible but there are so many good skaters - not great. Puberty though is attacking Rad - she really is growing but she is a huge fighter. Watch out for puberty to attack Med. Still they have a deep enough pool that they can still at least grab a medal. not sure if Anna will go to worlds but she has equal chance to medalling compared to Liza and Sotnikova definitely is not ready, I will be curious to see Julia where she is at now. And poor Leonova - can this girl ge a farewell at least or will we never see her like Makarova.

I'm kind of sorry to be right about the fact that Anna was bound to have another disappointing competition - and calling it the day after her amazing skate at RN. :slink:
