Another point about the spins is that a long-time fan who has been to his practice sessions said recently on one of the Russian forums that Sasha has been experiencing some minor centre of gravity changes because his body is changing due to puberty. So that has affected his jumps and spins this season.

Which is probably why no quad then. Mishin wants to keep his other jumps stable, and build his consistency - and his reputation for consistency as well. Talking of which, did you see Jackie Wong's men's preview post?

He calls him "super consistent", and actually predicted a 4th place finish for him:

"4. Alexander Petrov RUS - Petrov has been everything you want in a reliable skater. And though his programs are technically less impressive than those of the other top guys, he is steady enough that the inconsistency around him will knock one skater after another behind him. Look for a solid debut for the Russian bronze medalist."

If others have noticed this as well, and he keeps his consistency as he adds the quad (which I confidently - barring a few initial possible hiccups - expect him to do), such a reputation, of being able to reliably deliver his content, will be very valuable indeed. Especially in the inconsistent men's field.
 
Gala list has been released, he's not in it. Mishin was probably just trolling when he was talking about Sasha's EX in that interview.

He loves doing that, doesn't he?:) Papa Mishin, Troll Supreme. I can understand that some people have difficulty believing that this sober stoic-looking elderly gentleman has this mischievous deadpan sense of humour - but the results sometimes can be... quite amusing.:)

The most negative commentary I've heard all season. From Ari Zakarian and Tatjana Flade. I haven't watched the SP version of their commentary and I don't intend to.
For two people who had a lot more negative than positive things to say about his skating, they could at least have got their facts right about who choreographed his program. But I guess it was just too hard for them to take a simple glance at his ISU profile.
 
A couple miscellaneous things...

In Voronov's TV interview, he mentioned that Sasha was carrying an injury early in the season. The injury during Nationals only occurred in mid December, so this is something else that he was referring to.

Second point is that Gorshkov released a statement about Russia's performance at Euros. He praised everyone. Sasha was mentioned briefly at the end - "Alexander Petrov performed well too". So at least he didn't get left out completely.

Well, I guess I was wrong about Sasha being open with all of the ups and downs. No, but seriously, all the honor to Sasha for still fighting trough the season without too bad disasters. :)

And I'm glad he got a positive mention, since even that wasn't guaranteed.
 
I think that when you've had a season in which you've been hit by injury/illness on multiple occasions, it's easy to get down on yourself or to lose motivation. But he didn't let that get to him. I know finishing 8th and not being able to skate his best was not what he had wanted out of this Euros, especially after a stellar Nationals performance, but I hope he can still feel proud that he did whatever he could (and maybe even a little more) given the circumstances he was in.

Actually, i don´t think that was too negative. They did have valid points and they had some positive things to say too.(of course getting the facts straight would be nice but, oh well.)
I was vey suprised to hear that he is a very quiet person off the ice though since the feeling I have gotten from him is totally different. :laugh:

He's not a talkative person. But he's out-going and friendly. Does that give you a better picture?
Sasha doesn't seem close to Ari either, he doesn't follow him on social media, hasn't skated in any of his shows etc.

Yes, it does. Still I had a different impression of him, maybe compared to Adian Pitkeev he seems almost oversocial so I guess it came from that. :)

He's quite playful (when he's not training/competing), Sasha. I've read a couple amusing anecdotes online from his Russian fans. But I'm not sure if I should write it here. :laugh:
But when he's training/competing, he's very determined and serious.
