Mao Asada

Thanks to all for letting me know those information that I didn’t know.

I don't know the answer to the first question, but I do remember hearing something about one of Mao's costumes in the LP restricting her movement or being uncomfortable. I think it was the original costume at Skate America. I am guessing that they went to another costume until a replacement for the original could be made. I am not sure, though. I wish she could skate in that costume all the time. She sure did skate great in it, both in the Sochi LP and Worlds LP. Plus, It's really beautiful. The deep blue color with Mao's elegant movements reminds me of the flow of the ocean.

The flow of the ocean that's a beautiful expression!

and I have heard her Sochi LP costume was designed with a motif of this blue bird (Russian dove?). I could be wrong though...

It does look like the costume was inspired form the bird. Very beautiful and memorable dress.

Hi everyone!
February, 13 is a TAT's birthday day:hap10:
I have a chance to send her a message with congrats through people who works with her.
If someone wants to send her good words, you can write a small sentense and I'll include it in my message.
I think it would be very touching to send congrats from different people in diffrerent countries, maybe in different languages, why not?!:)

Wow, thank you very much, it's a really sweet idea! I want to participate too :)

Can I maybe ask I friend of mine who I know is a great TAT fan too, even if she isn't on GS? I think she might really love the idea too!

Sure, ask please!
But remember - We have only several days, maybe 3 or 4!! )

p.s. I made a small collage with her and Mao together. So, I think, it could be something about their collaboration...And of course best wishes for TAT! )

I am sorry but I never watched this interview but I think it is quite amazing. A little throwback to 2005 GPF when Irina was beaten by Mao and when asked about how she felt like a 15-year-old wins the competition, she said "Maybe ten years ago I was a little bit like same as her, young girl. But she is a child, I wish to see her when she will be like 25 and trying to compete."

Well Irina, your wish came true:)

I used to think that Irina came off a litte bitter in that interview. But now that I look back at it again, I think her point is valid. It is much more difficult to maintain a high level for a long period of time.

I think Mao, at 25, is better than ever. At this stage of her career, she never stops trying to challenge and improve her weaknesses. The fact that she's done a clean 3Lz and fully rotated 3-3 this season, is promising and I think if she can put it all together, no one can beat her. She is the oldest lady currently competing, yet going for the highest difficulty. She's doing a 4 triple SP and 8 triple FS. Who else can even attempt that? Maybe Liza, but even she is struggling this season.

Mao's career has had it's highs and lows, but as a fan, I really just look forward to seeing what she brings on the ice. Even if she doesn't win, the overall quality of her skating is unmatched by the current crop of youngsters.

Thanks to rosewood for this link to an hour long video of the making of Mao's New Jupiter program for the NHK special exhibition: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k7kOD0m29n6N51fkixe

Again, the Jupiter program was made to help support the area in Japan affected by the tsunami on 3/ 11/ 2011.

Here is a part of rosewood's message: In the program, Mao explained what she felt when she visited the 3.11 affected areas last year for NHK's TV program to support the reconstruction of the affected areas. And then she said she also had tough time during the season when 3.11 occurred. She lost her mom at the time. She closed her message by saying "Sometimes something very tough or very sad can happen in our life. But we need to accept everything to live our life. And we keep going forward." rosewood also included this moving clip of Mao at the end of her LP at Nationals just after her mother passed away: https://twitter.com/akoarabb/status/694499763153047553

When Mao looks up in her performances, it sometimes reminds me of this touching moment.

Like in this picture in Rach II: http://jto.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/sp20131022f1b.jpg

and this one in Madame Butterfly: http://40.media.tumblr.com/44b19d17a31a3a6550e76d74d5971fea/tumblr_nvnkj8m1b61s3blyqo1_500.jpg

Here is the original post of her entire message: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/ind...er-beauty-is-her-biggest-weapon.95911/page-22 post number #640

I know Mao's words and performances give a lot of encouragement to me, just as rosewood said they encourage her, but they also express the depth of sorrow before lifting me up. I think Mao manages to do this bittersweet mix better than anyone like a mirror of life.

Thanks gotoschool for the post and rosewood for her works. I was moved by that TV program when I had watched it.
I don't know and wonder why figure skaters are able to get people feeling emotions so often

Thanks to all for your messages for TAT!!
Sorry that I can't reply to you in PM...

Today is a last day I can receive your Congratulations for her! It would be great if someone send it by Japanese!! :yay:

I dont know if this has been posted yet, but I just found this wonderful Video of Mao's 2010 - 2011 EX with the most well known song from the musical "Elisabeth" as the music and surprisingly, it matches pretty well I think :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq18VcmTS8E

Brought me to tears. It's one of my favorite musicals and Mao is my favorite skater :)

rosewood at fsuniverse posted these videos of Mao making a chocolate surprise for Coach Sato. rosewood quoted Mao as saying "Thank you always for everything" on the chocolate and Mao also said that he is the coach with whom she can talk about technical as well as mental things.) rosewood also says that Mao wishes this season will turn out to be a sweet and happy one in the end. Finally, rosewood quoted Mao as saying, "Awwww good smell of chocolate! I'm hungry."

In the videos when Mao first opens the box and adds her message to the gift for Coach Sato... we see "Happy Valentain's Day" already written on the other heart. It's spelt the way a Japanese person would write it phonetically using Japanese syllables, then converted to roman characters :-D I thought it was cute.

But by the time she gives the box to Coach Sato... and the above photos are taken... the spelling has been corrected!
