Satoko Miyahara

Interesting, thanks for the link! :) Kohei is a good example, that guy is talented and an Olymp champion (the fact that he's a fast rotating athlete reminds me of someone ;)). I suppose she'll try for 3-3 in second half in the next season? Or does she want to try at this year World? It would seem very risky to me if it's the later case.
More and more skaters are training 3A, it's great.^^ But once Satoko has had a few successful tries in practice, I trust she will not try it out in competition until she and her coaches are very sure she can land it. Alaine Chartrand tried it this GP season while it was obviously not ready and failed each time (but thanks goodness she decided to stop and trains it more).

Yeah I'm pretty sure she will stick with her current layouts for Worlds and then we'll see what happens next season. The 3-3 is more of a immediate goal than the 3A. I think she's taking her time with the 3A. At Japan Open her FS layout had a 3Lz-3T in the opening and a 3Lz-2T-2Lo combination in the second half of the program to see if it works. Coach Hamada said she really wanted to use that layout but they decided together that two 2A-3T combinations were still the safest choice for this season.

I think Satoko is already resembling Kohei. She blends difficulty with clean execution in order to deliver the perfect program and that's what Kohei does too. And she's constantly looking for improvements just like he does.

That was a wise choice, to change the layout and work on making the 3Lz-3T more solid first, before trying it out a new layout for the next season (coz I suppose that's what they'll do). I love Satoko 2A-3T and the fact that she can do it at the end of the program as well.
But yes, for the 3A, she doesn't need to have it ready right away, lol. More important matter is to make the current jumps and combos better and better.

I agree. No wonder she admires him. :)

These world title articles make me nervous. Firstly because we don't know what will happen if the other ladies skate clean and Medvedeva would have to make one or more mistakes to lose the title. Secondly overhyping is increasing the pressure so if she gets a silver or a bronze it will be seen as a "failure". :drama:

Mmm, in the article, it's more like "ok, she's become one of the top contenders for gold, but can she win?", and it's leaning toward "Maybe, but...". I remember Johnny and Tara didn't like her skating last year, but now do like it considering her improvements, especially in the artistic side. But they still pointed out that she does not have the Russian ladies big jumps yet, which can indeed make a difference if they and Satoko skate clean.
If Satoko was declared as big favourite for title, then yes not winning could be considered as failure. But that's not the case here.
Miyahara has a chance, but Ice Time believes she won’t get there on her effort alone. Much will depend on what happens to the other elite skaters at the worlds. If they falter, Miyahara could well walk away with the gold medal in Boston.
This quote alone summarizes the whole article on Satoko. Last year, she was more of an outsider, someone you didn't expect to finish so high. This year, there's more pressure considering her amazing consistency this season and nerves of steel. Both can play in her favor, but if some skaters like Evgenia or Mao (she hasn't been consistent this season but she could be in Boston) are clean, I'm not certain she can win either, as much as I love her. However, she definitely has a chance for a medal. But the competition will be ultra intense, more than last year's.
What I want above all is for her to skate clean and have no regret, regardless of which placement she'll end up at.

Yeah that article does not necessarily declare her a winner but the Japanese media does and that's what is concerning me. All I can say is that she has a chance to medal again and nothing else. The competition will be tighter than last year, for sure.

They do? Dang, I hope they won't do too much as we get closer to the date... of course, they will talk a lot about her and Yuzu since they're the top Japanese contenders (and they'll put Mao too, even if the season didn't go well for her, she's still a mega star), but I don't wish to see things such as "World next champion: Satoko Miyahara!" coz that would be a very bad move and put unnecessary extra pressure on her. :hopelessness: Satoko has nerves of steel, but she's still human. But at least, she's has coaches who care for her, she's not on her own...

With her Win at 4CC she'll get the front cover of the Skating mags in Japan, at last. I can't wait.
My sister and I were wondering of She and Shoma both won, who would get the cover page, but it's definitely going to be Satoko.

I don't know if this video has been posted or translated here before but I feel like it has some relevant information.

Satoko: My jumps are still small so I want to increase the quality of my jumps.

She is prone to underrotations because of her small jumps, and the way to correcting them is to increase the height of her jumps. A lot of that is affected by her muscle efficiency. Coach Hamada mentions that she is not good at using her muscles to their full capacity.

Her trainer says she has a good muscular foundation but is only using it at 60% right now (50% before she started training to use them even more). The plan is to simulate exercises that are close to on-ice movements into her training. He also does image training with her to help her develop concentration while in a distracting environment. She tends to end up going over time during these image exercises (according to the FS time limit) because she is always fixing jumps in her head.

Coach Hamada also came up with a strategy for dealing with the waiting time when having to skate last in competitions. During ice resurfacing in training she'd pretend this was the 6 minute practice, take her boots off and warm up until she has to put her boots on and skate the short immediately as soon as she's back on the ice.

Basically she is using her muscles little by little in order to increase the height of her jumps in an efficient and safe way. I hope this clarifies things for people who are stubborn to think she will never fix her jumps because she gets awarded for them anyway. I'm not 100% sure about the translation but I think everyone gets the main ideas.
