Satoko Miyahara

Basically she is using her muscles little by little in order to increase the height of her jumps in an efficient and safe way. I hope this clarifies things for people who are stubborn to think she will never fix her jumps because she gets awarded for them anyway. I'm not 100% sure about the translation but I think everyone gets the main ideas.

havent you heard? Satoko or her team has no incentive to improve her jumps because she is already getting credits for them  sometimes i wonder if people take skaters for a fool or sth, they are a lot smarter and hardworker than ppl give them credit for or maybe i am too naive :slink:

anyway, here is OniBan's report from 4CC (thank you! :thank:)

Satoko Miyahara - is. super. good. Clean, precise, subtle, elegant, innate musicality, what can I say? My brother (who, I have to admit, got dragged to watch this competition with me against his will XD) didn't stand up for any of the standing ovations that had happened so far. But he actually stood up for the first time, willingly all on his own - for Satoko! I could have cried XD

I have always thought Un Sospiro program is a bit snoozy, but looking at it from where I am sitting - I realized it's really designed to showcase her skating skills to the best effect. It had her covering large areas of the ice in a short time, creating the impression of large sweeping movements to reach out to the audience. The step sequence is done all across the rink (instead of a small contained area as is the case with some skaters in previous groups) in large, graceful arcs ... it's hard to explain because it's something that's definitely there when you see it as a whole but so hard to put into words when I try to break it down into quantitative form XD. All I know is that it totally makes a difference in the overall presentation, and makes me appreciate this program a bit more :) (ok a whole lot more XD)
Her jumps - while they don't soar (not a lot of the ladies' jumps do), aren't as tiny as some make them out to be - as I mentioned before they are proportionate to her size.

btw, i watched Satoko's SP from ice show, maybe its just me but i really love that version, i feel beginning and ending of stsq is better, her movements are still commanding but without stopping completely

Having also seen Satoko live, I agree with those who say her jumps are bigger in person than on video :)

I don't know if this video has been posted or translated here before but I feel like it has some relevant information.

Satoko: My jumps are still small so I want to increase the quality of my jumps.

She is prone to underrotations because of her small jumps, and the way to correcting them is to increase the height of her jumps. A lot of that is affected by her muscle efficiency. Coach Hamada mentions that she is not good at using her muscles to their full capacity.

Her trainer says she has a good muscular foundation but is only using it at 60% right now (50% before she started training to use them even more). The plan is to simulate exercises that are close to on-ice movements into her training. He also does image training with her to help her develop concentration while in a distracting environment. She tends to end up going over time during these image exercises (according to the FS time limit) because she is always fixing jumps in her head.

Coach Hamada also came up with a strategy for dealing with the waiting time when having to skate last in competitions. During ice resurfacing in training she'd pretend this was the 6 minute practice, take her boots off and warm up until she has to put her boots on and skate the short immediately as soon as she's back on the ice.

Basically she is using her muscles little by little in order to increase the height of her jumps in an efficient and safe way. The translation seems accurate to me, because while her jumps are still small I did notice that they looked better than last year. So if it says that she's using more and more of muscle strenght, little by little, then it is real AND working. :) I'm looking foward to seeing her progress in the future. :)

Thanks for confirming. And I thought some of her jumps like her lutz looked bigger during 4CC. :)

That's only the words of people being bitter that she wins for being clean, while their fav looses for not being clean, lol!

good thing i downloaded her SP then  ahhhh i want old Un Sospiro dress back :sad14: and i want spins to be replaced back to original order :sad21: watching it again i never noticed her arms during her spiral and following steps before, its lovely , also it doesnt show her feet but did original chsq had spread eagle around 3:32?? i have been curious for a while now , i dont remember her seeing doing ina bauer or spread eagle before

It doesn't look like a spread eagle but I think the backwards outside edge arabesque spiral they put in its place is better

In the original choreo sequence she had a catchfoot spiral after the forwards arabesque spiral.

i agree that its better, i love it! i was just curious since i dont remember seeing her do any, maybe i will watch her old videos to see if she did

Baby Satoko  some thoughts

Sympathique : betrayal of umbrella and ice

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence : "you are spoiling it now Chris" one of my favourite comment from Simon  i feel exactly like Simon sometimes after reading some posts (not constructive one of course ) i would love to see her use this program as EX to see how far she has come (which is a lot!) :luv17: i love it!

She was 12 years old when she skated that Por Una Cabeza program but it is amazing. The Swan and Romeo & Juliet are also very beautiful programs, she was 13 there. Even then she had beautiful flow on the ice, beautiful lines and polish. (Also I can actually notice the differences between her jumps then and her jumps now, just look at the 3Lz-3T in her 2013 programs).

i think her programs are always lovely and has very good and thoughtful choreography catching the musical nuances, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence for example, she does her stsq as her 1st element but not to put jumps to the 2nd half, Poeta and Un Sospiro too, elements are spread evenly and blends in beautifully, you dont say "okay we are in the 2nd half", at least i dont

Yamato sensei updated his blog. He wrote he was watching Satoko's skating from Norway using mobile. He was sweating hard and trembling during each element she was executing. he was so relieved and proud when she skated like that. Also when he met her in Japan he greeted jokingly "hi champ" :luv17:

His proud uncle face is priceless. He's also saying she's been compared to Michelle Kwan lately and that it's an honor.

The pictures on the blog are hilarious:biggrin: He looks like a boxer who is waiting for his adversary. And Satoko so happy:laugh:

when you look at the photos, one may think he is the one who won those medals

Yamato Sensei's face and pose.. I just can't :laugh2:

I love that Satoko has a person like this in her life though - she seems so shy and quiet, so it's great that one of her coach is a total larger-than-life persona XDD It balances things out and hopefully - takes her out of her shell a little. He looks like he makes her laugh :)

Congrats on Satoko on her well-deserved win at 4CCs! Her skating is so lovely. She reminds me so much of my favorite skater (except the jumps). I hope she does great again on Worlds and next season :)

Aww, how sweet! No wonder he was so stressed, her first victory at major international competition was at stake and only a few minutes away. At least, Satoko was the one who stayed calm until the end, like a true champ.

Yup, he knows when to be in serious mode and when to relax. :) In Kenji's Room episode, Satoko did say that Yamato sensei was someone funny. Not a surprise, then. ;)
