What were your biggest disappointments this season?

- Nobody skating to Barbie Girl in the RD 90s theme, it´s actually a scandal
Sasaki/Ikeda, placed 3rd at Japanese Nationals last December, did use "Barbie Girl" for their RD, although they recently split (Ikeda retired). I can't find it on youtube though.

My biggest disappointment is that too many RD programs kinda mocked the 90's dance moves with index fingers pointing as a signature move or something. It really got on my nerves and almost made me hate the dancers instead of the choreographers.
But then, Kouevi/Homawoo at American Nats was really refreshing to watch and I couldn't help myself screaming, "YES, that is what I call RESPECT to the 90s!" and soon fell in love with them (of course I love Aboian/Veselukhin's Vogue too). Maybe RD this season gave me a good opportunity to see which choreographers I should check out from now on.

I've already responded that nothing really disappointed me but I reserve the right to change that opinion. The theme for the RD was just really bad. I thought the music, the costumes for the most part and the choreography was just bad. Surely the ISU could have come up with something that was really danceable on the ice. (ok, I'm done)

if you want to see their best performance of it, watch Montreal worlds. (2024). Even better rendition of the soundtrack.

That is Magic with a capital M. You know I'm not new to skating but I'm definitely new to watching ID this season, so I didn't know their outcome as I watched. While they were waiting for their scores in the K&C I was shouting: "Win! Win! Win!"

I was on my feet in the arena. It was 😍

Russian and Belarusian athletes being given a provisional allowance to compete at the Olympics, in spite of the ongoing Russo-Ukraine war, and history of Soviet/Russian systemic doping. And on that note, extremely disappointed they let Tutberidze attend said Olympics when she and her team should be barred for life after what went down with Valieva.

Biggest Disappointments:

Fans complaining about the clearly well above the field French ice dancers winning Olympic gold

The continued really boooooring (not everybody) choreography in all disciplines

The lack of depth of good Olympic skating. With the exception of dance, once you got below the top few (in Pairs and Mens the top maybe 2 or 3) it was Juniors all the way

Continued use of music that just doesn't work for skating.

Really would have liked to see Isabeau medal at Worlds

I generally agree with your 1,2, 4 & 5 points...

Kaori not winning gold at the Olympics, even though I kind of expected that to happen. But in the end, she celebrated her retirement with a gold medal at worlds and that was a really beautiful moment. We wouldn't have had that without her silver medal at the Olympics.

This one might be an unpopular opinion, but I was really disappointed to see Alysa win gold with the exact same set of programs she won worlds with last year. She had two new free programs and couldn't win with those and switched back to her old program twice. (I know she had to ditch her sp for other reasons). I don't know, I didn't like this and found this disappointing.

There was finally an ice dance program I really, really loved, and it couldn't win gold. I'm usually not really an ice dance fan. Talking about C/B!
Wow, I agree with your first two points. The last, I cannot agree. Of course, Chock/Bates worked hard throughout the season to fix their FD program, and they skated it to the best they could at the big O, considering Evan dealing with back pain and slowing down from age and injuries. Still, that FD was too gimmicky in theme and approach. They were determined to make it work, but it is far, far from their best program and/or best effort. It is completely lacking in originality and memorable music and choreo, especially vs Fournier-Beaudry/ Cizeron's, The Whale FD.

Of course, how I see things does not invalidate how you feel. It's just my gut reaction. I had some high expectations for C/B's FD for the Olympic season, so I was disappointed. I did enjoy their RD.

On some level it really did make for a fabulously campy gay (Madonna/Spice Girls/RuPaul) Olympics rhythm dances.

And American Woman, I guess, lol.

I'm with you. The 1990s popular culture had pretty much passed me by, what with preteen kids and working and making a belated push to finish the PhD thesis I'd started years before. If I'd read an explanation of the costumes before, I might have appreciated what they were supposed to be conveying. Instead, as well as unlistenable music for the most part, I was also bewildered by so many of what looked like grabbed-from-the-floor-of-the-closet costumes. Fear and Gibson's particularly, since I'd only heard of the Spice Girls and had never seen them perform, didn't know their music at all, and didn't know they wore costumes that represented personalities (whether their own, or manufactured for PR purposes, I don't know). I didn't understand Gilles and Poirier's theme either, but at least they wore actual skating costumes, that went together visually. 👵:scratch2:

When I say disappointments I know everyone tried their best.

1. Ilia Malinin's crushing defeat at the Olympics with no medal.
2. Sui and Han's return they constantly were a disappointment all season held up by judging their best was at the olympics.
3. Jason Brown not making the olympics and then dropping out of worlds
4. Deanna and Max's string of bad luck from nationals where she was very sick, to her injury that really ended their Olympic dream
5. Amber Glenn not winning a medal at olympics or worlds
6. Neither FRench boy (Adam or Kevin) winning a medal at the Olympics or Worlds
7. The Shibutani's disaster of a return though we now hear she broke her kneee
8. Keegan Messing's return/non return another disaster.
9. Madeline Schizs not making the Olympic freeskate after getting an extension for school
10. The judging in general.

My greatest disappointment this season is that I was looking forward to seeing Sara-Maurd Dupuis do her first triple axel with a positive GOE in person at Canadian Nationals. Alas, it was not to be. Well, at least this year's Skate Canada is just down the road from me, so I can be there when she tries again.
