GS Meetup at Worlds 2016!

It would be great to meet you all! Arriving Monday night, depart Monday morning. Staying in town at Battery Wharf Hotel Mon, Sat, Sun and with friends other nights. Available for meet ups during the day and most eves. My friend's son will be performing in Opening Ceremony as member of Lexington Fife & Drum Corps.

I still like the idea of forum folk saftey pinning a bit of yellow ribbon to their lapels for ID purposes...unless you want to stay anonymouns, of course.

Got the lanyard, got the U-Do -it lamination, got the pouch. Got the photopaper....I think I will have the design finalized this weekend. I will post the pic and if anyone wants the JPG, you can certainly cut my name out and insert your own, put it into a MS Doc,print it, and put it into a lanyard pouch.

Post 705, who is going to Worlds, has links to pics I came up with, but I made a master jpg now in the album that anyone can download by right clicking on it. Or, I can send anyone a 600k jpg of the master which they can add their name , forum handle or not and import into an MS word doc, size to the size of their pouch, and print it out on photopaper and cut to size. Just send me a PM with an email. Voila! A ticket pouch with the logo on it! Anyone can send me a PM if they want the 605k over the 105K file size you can download for free from Photobucket. Here is the album on Photobucket with the master. Or, you could just wear a ribbon!

It looks like most people are in for a brunch on Friday morning before the Pairs SP. So I will go ahead and plan something for maybe 10 a.m. and keep you all updated on place, I will update the OP. Now, I need some recs---for those Boston folks -- any recommendations for restaurants that take groups and is not too far from the arena?

I think what is needed here is a group effort! Brain storm time! (BTW, Mrs. P has given me permission to show anyone interested her pic so we all can locate the real party person and I suspect that when I can get ahold of Doris, she will do the same. )

Then,we need a means of mass communication to let folks know when and where we will be meeting, either by an arranged place and time or a "flash" meeting at slow times.
Yes, we could make up a mass email group of those interested in getting together and when some folks want to get together, we could send out a group email, or better yet, if this is possible,
a group text.

Or, (my favorite) we could have a specific sub forum under Worlds for get togethers. It would be easy to check by book marking it on our phones....

I know I am technically challanged so can anyone else think of ways we can stay in contact electronically for big and small get togethers during the event?

Email might work? Group text? I have access to my email on my phone, so either works I wouldn't mind adding a short description of myself to make me easy to identify, if that would be helpful

Just a friendly reminder that international text messaging might result in additional fees on the cellular bill (speaking from past experience), in this case using a third party app might be the better option

I have no problem with an app that allows me to send out a group text. All I need is someone to point me to the app on Google Play and of course we need a list of people's fone numbers, passed around on PM as we dont want to risk anyone's personal info out in the open. I have a secondary fone number that if compromised, wouldnt hurt me..same thing for a throw away email address....I will work on the list of folks who are going from here tonight and if anyone wants to add info about themselves for the list like "Real First Name" or "People confuse me with Gracie Gold" or "I have seen the Southern Cross" or "State or Country from" that is fine also. A time like this where many of us will be together wont happen very often and I find that seeing forum folk for my other interests and meeting them is a very good experience....

Why don't you guys try LINE app. Works well with group messages. Not to mention voice call and video call. You can use LINE ID instead of phone numbers.

Does anyone here use Slack? It's the hottest messaging app out of Silicon Valley right now, and a dream to use. You can download the app onto your phone and access it through a web browser too.

I like the idea of a third-party chat app to stay in touch during the week of Worlds. I'm not sure I can commit to event plans this early but would be nice to see what's happening on a daily basis in real-time. This would help with any impromptu or last-minute group plans too.

WhatsApp would probably be good, and messages are encrypted so the NSA will have trouble spying on us.
