In some respects I think V+T are still “in it” to test themselves and take their career to the maximum. But there must be a point when flying all over the world, training over and over and isn’t fun anymore. The hotel where they are staying in New Jersey one guest described as “terrible” and I can’t imagine that the food out there is up to par. And West Orange is suburbia – not exactly Manhattan….
And from their Instagram account, it seems that they have a lovely house in what looks like a nice area in Moscow. It’s the kind of place one doesn’t want to leave – it’s a real home. They have traveled to how many countries – 20? 30? More? Hotels, traveling can become tedious.
And what about the judges? As they weigh their scoring, don’t they want to offer hope and chances to other skaters, to keep the sport alive and stimulating? There are other brilliant athletes who deserve recognition and I can’t believe a bronze or a silver would be of particular interest to V+T at this point. Like any athlete or performer they probably enjoy the adulation and admiration from their audiences – but they must know that in time they will be beaten by skaters who are in their prime and who can toss off a quad throw like it’s nothing.
Max has already referred to himself as ‘old.’ And they have been saying that they are still skating because TANYA loves skating. Note -- Max has not said that HE still loves skating. Oh, and some people said that V+T have been marked generously this year -- but of course they didn't have much competition. And V+T keep using the term “family.” Family is really more than two people (two people are a ‘couple’) and if this is their frame of mind, these signs show that they are getting closer and closer to starting a real family. They’ve added a fabulous cat, but a child has gotta’ be next!
And by the way, I’m glad to see that some people wouldn’t mind if Stolbova and Klimov win. I wouldn’t mind that either. V+T are still “my skaters” but others have worked for years too to achieve their goals.
I don't know where to begin, but I will give it a try.
First: Since when is family defined real only when there is a kid? Tell that to the millions of newlyweds each year: "Oh, by the way, I am marrying you two, but just so you know, you are not a real family until you have a kid! Yeah!" So I suppose I should decrease my anniversary count by 10 years because I did not have kids for the first 10 years of my married life. Good to know! It will make me feel 10 years younger if nothing else.
Second and somewhat OTT, but I could not resist: is "suburbia" a code word for bad living conditions over where you live? Note to myself: Get out of suburbia ASAP. Then again, the most affluent people do live in suburbia out here, but I guess they did not know better.
Third: I did not know it was the judges job to offer hope. That would be much better found within a church. The judges' only job is
to judge the performance of the athletes on the day of competition. No more, no less.
Fourth: Who are the those brilliant athletes that could toss a quad throw like it is nothing? The only ones that come to mind are Sui/Han. And lets ask them if it is like nothing for them. Sui is going to have a major operation because of it.
Fifth: Max has never said that he loves skating. In fact in all his interviews before, around and after OG he insisted he hates figure skating as well as he says any number of other things. Yet, he stays in figure skating and intends to stay in it one way or another. Anyone, make your own conclusions from that.
Sixth: Max and Tania have not been marked generously this year. For generous marks see the silver medalists on EC and GPF marks.
That is generous.
Seventh: So just because someone has worked for years, Tania and Max, who by the way have probably worked even harder should step aside? Nice! And is that the message from their fans that they will be overwhelmed to see in their fan thread? I so hope they never come here to read.
