Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

Most people's impression of a performance depends on the execution of the program, (unless they are die-hard fans of the skater who love anything the skater does).
Sometimes I can see a potential to the program even with a very weak performance. It happenned to me several time with different athletes and even different fields. I believe that it depends on the quality of the choreo and idea behind it, if it could be seen clear even from the first performance which is usually a draft- then it could develop in a very successful program. These moments are very special to me.

Poor performance affects audiences' impression to a program, true for sometimes, but Yuzu's RJ1 program is a typical sample to prove it's not true on him. At least that didn't well applied on that case. Yuzu doesn't always deliver a clean program. He had a mysterious fall for RJ1 at Nice but that killed lots of people at first sight. POTO has never got a real clean result but it was regarded as the most acceptable POTO program last year and Kurt Browning (affectionately) teased that "I don't even mind to listen to it once more." SEIMEI was far from perfect before NHK Trophy last year but quite a number of fan cast their vote since its debut. I believe it's not only me who have a much better impression to those programs comparing to some Wilson's programs for Yuzu like NDP. He performed it a lot better at TEB 2013, unfortunately it didn't change it's impression in people's minds in general apparently. It didn't make people love it even when it was done well (or at least better).
Personally, to me, going back to Wilson is a huge Ugh-Oh-NO-NO. I am not blaming anybody, Wilson is certainly a master, he did so many brilliant works for a lot of skaters. Sometimes it just doesn't click. Yuzu and Wilson is not a match in style perhaps. I am very much agree Sorrento to a point is that, Buttle dug out the potential and possibilities of Yuzu and helped developing, or at least showing the world his versatility. It's not saying that Parisienne Walkways is better than RJ2 (how can we compare a SP to FP:laugh:). Things just didn't work out when styles of the choreographer and the skater didn't match.
Of course the "nope" is just me, Yuzu and his team will have their own POV. IMO if he really wants to try going back to Wilson or someone new, 2016-17 season will be the best opportunity to risk a bit. And fearless Yuzu isn't afraid of any challenges. We'll see. ;)

Yuzu's endurance and ability to continue performing throughout an entire free program have definitely improved for sure. Combination of health and his obviously rigorous training. Wonder if Orser is one of those coaches who demands "no stop" run-throughs in training, close to competitions, as apparently some coaches like Frank Carroll are.

It does not matter to me who can skate Yuzu's programs. I generally hate copycats. Not really a fan of any tributes especially if the program is one of my top favs of all times.

It's off topic but I also hate copy cat. Especially some tributes or imitation to those big names or my favs. I hate seeing mini-sort-of-megastar. Apart from surviving through the technical elements and skating skills, originality means everything to me talking about artistry. And this is why I love Yuzu since he was a junior. He was not mature then but I saw the special something in him.

Not sure about Brian, but Yuzu used to say that his recipe for his 2014 GPF success is many many run-throughs.

Interesting. From the translation of Shizuka's interview of Hanyu, there is this quote:

"If I put in the 4Lo that I’m practising now, but if the quality of my performance isn’t better, the points are not going to increase. (laughs)
… 4S and 4Lo, the difference is only 2 points. Whether I should do it for these 2 points, that’s the difficult part. "

It sounds like he is planning to replace 4S with 4Lo, no? (If he puts the 4Lo in at all.)

I don't know, it doesn't make sense to me. Why would he replace a jump that costed him quite a lot to land constantly at competitions? The most logical thing would be to replace the toe loop no?

Yes, I would have expected him to replace 4T with 4Lo. But it sounds like he's planning to replace the 4S from that interview...

It only makes sense if he wants to replace 4S with 4Lo in the SP. But could it be a translation error? or he misspoke? He meant to say 4t but said 4s instead?

Tracy Wilson also said that even though he's practicing 4Lo and the success rate is quite high she does not think he is going to include it in LP in Boston. However it is up to Yuzu to decide. And I'm thinking: okay he's been brilliant during NHK and GPF bringing two WR competitions in a row and knowing Yuzu I suggest he could at least think of a third stellar competition for this season. Why not? The judges are crazy when it comes to PCS and GOE when he delivers amazing performances and it seem to be a feature of this season. Sure plus 2 points in BV maybe not so much but... GOE can do a magic difference. I do not say that he has to hunt after this idea but I think he is not the one who would fear to think super positive about the results and beautiful numbers in total. ;) BTW we need a Pooh smile, don't you think?
Whatever he decides to do- hope he would be pleased with the result. He has tough rivals this season and he has to be very critical to what he is capable of and what kind of risk he can allow. Wishing him good luck!

Yes, I basically agree with everything you've said! Maybe he's hunting after 220, he was nearly there~

I realise I was a bit vague in my post, but I meant to express my surprise that he was planning to replace 4S with 4Lo (if he adds 4Lo) instead of replacing 4T as we expected. But anyway, we'll just wait and see!

"YUZURU METHOD" is available at bookstore today, three days of advanced sales. The Ikebukuro branch of Sanseido, Japan's major bookstores chain, posted on twitter, "The prime location of our bookstore is not negotiable (for YUZURU METHOD)." - Shared by Echo Cheng @YHIFG FB.

"SPORT (すぽると!)" program of Fuji TV broadcast the men singles preview for WC Boston. Yuzu, Javi & Patric were introduced. And there were some new footage of young Yuzu. - Shared by Echo Cheng @YHIFG FB

The practice schedules are up, but no mention of which skaters are in which groups. Hopefully that will be put up soon?

Hey guys!

Random intrusion but I just got back from Japan after a two week long vacation in tokyo and the kansai region and just wanted to note some Yuzuru/figure skating related things I sort of wanted to retell my observations to people who would care (unlike my friends lol).

There was a couple of Yuzuru ads in the Tokyo metro system as well as one on a bus when I was on my way to Hakone. I was basically playing an extended game of "find the figure skater" with my boyfriend where ever we would go. I even spotted Nobu's ad in Shibuya! Also, Mao Asada is literally everywhere. I don't remember where I saw this but there was some sort of disagreement with the popularity of Mao vs. Yuzu and after visiting cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, I saw Mao's face everywhere. I wandered into a couple of the shopping areas and even though Mao is the queen of advertisements and commercials, Yuzuru's face was literally on 80 percent of the sports magazine in any of the bookstores I visited. I would wander over to the sports area and it would be like Yuzu yuzu yuzu baseball yuzu.

Random but if you guys ever have questions about traveling to Japan as a foreigner, I'm your girl! Also super excited to see the Yuzuru, Mao and the rest of Team Japan next week at Worlds!

Sounds about right.
Yuzu purposely keeps the amount of advertisement gigs per-year down to about 5. I read that somewhere, but I can't remember now which news clip it was in.
