2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

Well, I voted for Lena again...I did the math and she only needs 1,386 votes to take the lead! C'mon...GSers mobilize!

I'm mobilized! I've been voting for Elena she was way in the lead last night. I don't know what happened:scratch2:

Apparently Angelina is getting a lot of, shall we say support, from South Korea. Honestly I am convinced that voting machines are being used because Lena had like 9,000 votes ahead of Angelina earlier today and now we have this.

Does anyone actually think that over 11,000 Koreans are participating? Seriously, not even half those votes are from actual people.

Can anyone explain why Kuchvalska is leading among Russians, ahead of both Medvedeva and Radionova, with almost 100,000 total votes cast so far? OK, it's a three person race, but still...

Apparently Angelina is getting a lot of, shall we say support, from South Korea. ...

winky, you quoted Mathman's post, but apparently missed the point of his post.
Mathman's post is about the votes originating from Russia.

Among the votes originating from Russia, Kuchvalska has a healthy lead over Radionova (and a ginormous lead over Medvedeva).

I just looked at the current tallies for votes originating from Russia:

Approx. 92,000 votes total for all Team Europe ladies nominees.

46% Kuchvalska
18% Medvedeva
36% Radionova

Whether Kuchvalska is getting a lot of support from South Korea or not does not shed any light on why Kuchvalska is far ahead in the votes originating from Russia.

(I know that those who are tech-savvy can disguise their location, but why would anyone bother -- when multiple non-automated voting is allowed?)

Go, Angelina :yay:.

Enlarge the map of Russia and look at the individual oblasts--none of the oblasts have a vote count that will get you close to 90,000. My *guess* is that some non-Russian users are masking their IP address with a Russian one to make it SEEM that Russians are overwhelmingly voting for Kuchvalska. Since they aren't tied to a real physical location, they show up in the country total but can't be found on the oblast map...

Though who knows...maybe some Russians feel like they can't choose between Medvedeva/Radionova (like choosing between two of your children), so they choose Kuchvalska instead. But my guess would be these people are the minority...

I edited my post above before seeing your reply.

What I added above is that I don't know why anyone would bother to disguise their location.
Multiple non-automated voting is allowed, so why bother misrepresenting one's location??

The South Koreans could be using a Russian VPN to be funny.

Hell the Australians could be using a South Korean VPN for that matter. Really we don't know.

To make it seem like the whole world is against the Russian skaters/Russia?
I'm pretty sure IP-masking is the reason why all of Latin America swung from being pro-Radionova to pro-Kuchvalska...

As for why they're pretending to be from Russia--maybe to add insult to injury? ("Not only did you lose the vote, but your fellow countrymen voted against you.") :rolleye:

What I don't understand is why FFKKR (the Russian Fed) is ONLY asking people to vote for Medvedeva (with no corresponding videos/posts for Radionova, Kovtun or Kolyada):

Playing favorites? Saving face? (Hoping that Kuchvalska will win so Tuktamysheva will have less competition?)

Of course, Max Trankov had to weigh in on this and wrote "Only Lenok (Elena) Radionova!" As per usual, he's not been shy about sharing his preference!

That's not really a 'swing', is it? All countries in South America are heavily Kuchvalska by about 98%, and votes for other TCC skaters are extremely tiny. Who knew there were thousands of Kuchvalska fans in that continent?

That's not how it works? If someone was spoofing, the effect wouldn't be any different from someone who was actually physically in Russia. IP address blocks are allocated to providers and hosts within a country--all of whom, obviously, have a real, physical location (eg. Rostelecom). There is no such thing as a generic 'Russian IP address', and the votes would show up on the individual oblasts.

People are easily entertained. Don't read more into it that that.

I'm sure you're right about the spoofing--I just couldn't find the high-voting oblasts!! Can you? Most of the oblasts seem to have only a few hundred votes, at most...I see ~8000 from St. Petersburg, and ~1200 from Leningradskaya, and 1000 from Rostovskaya, but I cannot figure out where the other ~80,000 votes are coming from...

If you want to vote for specific races... it is easier sometimes to go straight to that poll... so here is each poll linked individually.

Also if you right click on the link rather than just clicking, you will get an option for "Open Link in New Private Window" in Firefox or "Open Link in Incognito Window" in Chrome. Use that link, then when you vote you can close the window, and do it again as many times as you want. Not automated, all manual, just now it takes you one right click and two normal clicks to vote for your favorite and you can do it as often as you want.

I wanted to bump this up for easy access to direct voting. I'm power voting for Misha and Elena and this makes it easier.

I don't understand the double standard :dev2: in this thread:

When Radionova leaps ahead by many thousands of votes within a very short period of time (as she has just now), the speed at which those votes for her pile up does not get questioned by anyone in this thread. No accusations that bots are responsible.

The B word gets used only when Kuchvalska is the one who gains ground within a short period of time.

At least Brazil, where i live, pretty much amazes me.
I mean, in my whole life here, i only met two people who could name a female figure skater (one knew Lipnitskaya and another knew Mao). And appearently i missed a whole community that does not only follow FS but also are fans of reasonably obscure skaters.

A note: the votes by region do not add to the whole country number of votes.
Brazil is an easy check and there are few votes and reasonably large regions, so its easy to hover and add.
Right now, there are 312 votes if i add up the regions, and 794 when i look from world map.

That's suspect too. As I said, I thinking voting machines are in play. We shall see maybe if any votes are discarded.

Because it just doesnt make sense.
I'm sorry, i live in a very non fs country, there are no fans here, nobody knows or cares, and people dont even know Brazil got a figure skater to send to Worlds - and then the majority here, 87%, voted on Kuchvalska, which is rather obscure compared to Radionova and even Medvedeva.

Lets take a look at the votes in Brazil.
39 votes for NA ladies
36 votes for NA men
90 votes for Asia ladies (So Youn winning with 50%)
41 votes for Asia men
794 votes for Europe ladies (Kuchvalska winning with 87%)
38 votes for Europe men

I just find it weird, sorry. Cant help it. I just dont see how a majority of people who voted in brazil would come there and vote only on team europe's ladies poll and ignore everything else.

As for Radio, maybe i missed it - all times i looked she was ahead so... If i've seen something like the stuff above, i would have bitched too. Would be great if people brought numbers here so we have it all documented.

They really need a better voting system, I don't think this was thought up very well. I'm happy Kuchvalska might get another opportunity to compete on a big stage but the voting is obviously weird.

Also I'm surprised that they are pushing for Medevedeva to go, I thought after such a whirlwind of a season they would want to let the girl rest and just let her give Worlds her all
