Tatiana Volosozhar & Maxim Trankov

Of course I want V/T to win gold! And I believe they can. But I also won't be too disappointed if they don't win this year, because I think they have a lot to be proud of. And if they don't win, I'd rather the winners be other teams I also like. ;)

Edit: I'm also trying to manage my own expectations. I get very stressed during competitions, and I can manage the stress a little better if I keep telling myself to be satisfied with a possible result other than gold.

Seventh: So just because someone has worked for years, Tania and Max, who by the way have probably worked even harder should step aside? Nice! And is that the message from their fans that they will be overwhelmed to see in their fan thread? I so hope they never come here to read.

Aww hey we're all just happy to support two talented pairs who are also very good friends- no one wants v/t to lose of course, but surely we can all support more than one team! :cheer: Even Max was cheering them on at the GPF on twitter  All the pairs work very hard and the variation makes this sport so fun to watch. I'm sure that if, somehow, they read this forum they'd be proud of their fans also supporting their pals and teammates :) It makes for a positive and friendly environment about good russian pairs~!

Absolutely! And I know the perfect place to support any of the other athletes - in their own fan threads, where it is most likely they will see that support. I doubt they will come looking for it here.

Yesterday I watched Sui +Han to check out their skating (as some of you have named them as a force to be reckoned with) and of course they are formidable and could do very well at World’s. But I also watched for the umpteenth time, Tanya and Max’s Dracula program and I was struck again and again by the absolute elegance -- their posture, their positions, their extended and polished execution – of every move they make on the ice. I’m sorry but no other pairs have that level of grace and excellence. I was struck by how many times have I seen the program and yet I don’t tire of it. Why is that? Is it just because I like them? I don’t think so. Some people have a special quality that you simply cannot explain and Volosozhar and Trankov have that. They can’t help being exceptional!

The Dracula routine needs to be more polished I understand that Max is Dracula he wants to suck the blood of Tati but I don't understand her act. Is she supposed to turn into a vampire?

How was Sui Han throws?

Here is roughly translated, Max's explanation:
The Dracula program is divided into three distinct parts, marked by the ringing of the bells in two places of the program, which represents changing from night to day the first time and from day to night the second time. Apparently the first part of the program is when Dracula awakens and sees this girl who is scared/lost. He intents to bite her but something stops him. He starts controlling her and the temptation to bite her is still there, but he doesn't bite her. Then comes the first ringing of the bells and night changes to day. Now he must act like a human and starts building a relationship with her, they are falling in love, etc., then the night comes again and she decides to stay with him on the dark side :)

I'm looking forward to seeing how the Dracula program has developed since Euros. At Euros they were brilliant, but Tanya wasn't at full strength yet because of her injury and the flu (she's such a tough girl. What a trooper!). Now they've had a chance to get feedback from international judges and work on getting the program to its full potential. I wonder if there will be any big changes? Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing V/T perform their programs at full strength!

This is a transcript of Johnny and Tara discussing pairs (towards the end of the article). Interesting to see that Tara loves V/T and their programs, but Johnny prefers S/K's programs. It's all a matter of taste, of course! But both of them seem to consider V/T and S/K to be the front runners, with Tara giving V/T a big edge.

I really liked John Coughlin's preview with TSL too. He gave a great balance on what he considered to be the strengths and weaknesses of each team.

Me too! I will be there :)

I thought you guys would be interested in my new video, it's a collection of all of Tatiana and Maxim's contest program music! :dance2:
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x401u01

I've been working on it for several months and im just so happy I finished it in time for the World Championships! It was incredibly fun to make, and I was so proud looking back on all their programs and how they've developed as a pair. I ask that you forgive me for the quality however aha, Youtube wouldn't let me upload it and dailymotion has a filesize limit so I had to downgrade it a bit, and the format i used ended up brightening hugely it for some reason? :scratch2: regardless it's the audio that counts of course!

Aceiel – you are a marvel! What a wonderful thing you’ve done! One couldn’t ask for a better gift from a fan than this compilation. It’s so masterfully put together and tasteful – the music of course, a mixture of still shots and action, the pale screen, the small white type, with information and dates of their achievements. I don’t know what to say but utter praise and thanks for this beautiful collection. I think Tanya and Max are going to get very choked up when they see and hear this chronicle because it documents both their growth as the one of the best pair skaters in many years and the growth of their devotion to each other. I’m speechless. This is a feast for those of us who admire them. Thank you again!

Just to let you know -- this past Friday, I watched Tanya and Max practice. I arrived a little earlier than their ice time and when I turned back from their rink to go outside again, in walked V+T, arm in arm, full of energy, looking fabulous and happy. I smiled at them and Tanya sort of half-smiled back. Max didn’t register any expression. I don’t know if Tanya recognized me from when I gave her the champagne to celebrate their marriage, and we talked briefly, but I kept going. I did not want to intrude on their privacy.

After a little walk I returned to the hall and watched V+T and Tarasova and Morosov run up and down the halls, jumping rope, doing lifts in the open area. V+T did floor work, their lifts mostly, in the open area outside the rink for about 45 minutes and discussed the lifts they were practicing and tried a few different dismounts (if that’s what you call it.)

Then V+T took the ice. They warmed up separately most of the time, stroking and stroking and then practiced their side by side double-axels (they rarely bother with a spin) and then started taking off outer layers of their jackets or puffys. Then they work on particular sections and on particular sequences and specific moves of their programs. Not surprisingly, at one point, Max took issue with something – and there was substantial discussion. V+T focused on the throw triple, starting with one triple, then two triples and then three. The throw triple was looking fantastic. They and ALL the skaters were in superb physical shape. And as we know, V+T have perfect physiques AND they are also beautiful which is their extraordinarily good fortune.

V+T were on the ice with Tarasova and Morozov who have a HUGE throw-split-triple if that’s what it’s called. It’s amazing. They also skated very well, though I’d like to see a little more personality injected into their skating when they perform.

Then after an hour everyone left including Nina Moser. Their next session was to start at 2:00 p.m. so I wondered what I was going to do for 3 hours. But from the end of V+T and T/M’s session, Maxim Kovtun and MIikhail Kolyada started their practice. They BOTH skated and skated and skated at full speed and jumped and jumped and jumped over and over for about 1 ½ hours. Certainly quite different from pairs training. Obviously, pairs need to consult and coordinate and a lot of time is taken up with making sure there is perfect communication and timing. Single skaters have only themselves so they repeat and repeat ad infinitum.

Then there was the afternoon session where V+T returned and worked for a half-hour. They did their throws again and their long program once (brilliantly I might add…. Looking incredibly confident and strong.) And then they left. I was just about to leave when I walked out of the rink and bumped into Feodor Klimov! So I decided to stay a bit longer!!!. THAT was a nice surprise. I heard S/K were training too at this rink, but they weren’t there in the morning. I think it’s wise to have V+T and S/K skate at different times…(after all they are competitors).

When you look at someone’s Instagram life, you think you know them. You don’t of course, but I smiled at Feodor. He surely had no clue who I was, but he smiled back. He’s a sweetie and much better looking in real life and seemed to me somewhat slimmer. He and Ksenia warmed up, mostly separately. I was very moved by Ksenia. She skated around the edge of the rink, by herself for a long time. She seemed lost in thought, preoccupied with something and I don’t think it was about skating. But then she and Feodor started skating together and worked on their moves. They are really FAST and powerful. Wow! Then she and Feodor worked separately again. Ksenia worked on her double axels and fell twice and got a bit angry. But she didn’t make a sound. Ksenia is quite lovely, but WHAT is on her mind? I can only think how difficult it must be to keep up a training level, to remain at peak form at all times, to find the strength and persistence to continue. I wonder if she thinks all the hard work is worth it.

While I love and treasure V+T, I do think that Stolbova and Klimov’s long program is incredible – inventive and exciting choreography, great music and they skated brilliantly at Europeans. Whoever wins Worlds will have earned it, but it may be nerve-wracking this year with two such gifted pairs. Over and out.

I'm sorry for my english, but maybe you have more information about practice Maxim Kovtun and Mikhail Kolyada? Thanks in advance for your answer and have a nice day:)

Oh my goodness you are far, far too kind! :hap93: Thank you so much I dont even know what to say, it makes me incredibly happy you enjoyed it so much ; ; (and it's just so lovely as an editor to hear things like this, all the hard work pays off :thank:). I found it so interesting when you paired their movements with studio audio, you notice all these little details and how well timed their programs actually are!
