Phew, I sure am glad not everyone is quick to place blame here. This thread moves too fast but did that short video with PJ got posted? Again it amazes me how he phrased things; he said that he wasn't SEIMEI tonight, and that he thinks he can find two new programs that he can connect emotionally (paraphrasing here).

I am not trying to lay the blame but something is going wrong and there's a cause for that. Things don't happen out of thin air. Yes, he is the greatest skater out there, for me the greatest of all time, and he cannot and did not deliver when it mattered. I am not downplaying what he achieved, I think more was his for the taking. He could have been the greatest of all time with two World titles and chasing a third, and now, he's facing even more pressure next year, with even more baggage. If Orser couldn't help him up to this point, then he sure as hell has an even bigger problem on his hands now. Not to mention...

Maybe it's normal for you that Yuzuru lost and his coach wasn't with him.
His coach who was with his biggest rival who just beat him. His coach who just helped that happen.

When by all accounts he is massively gutted and needs the most focus and support, he is all alone ... because the most important person isn't there, he's celebrating with Javi and won't be there because Javi will continue on.
Knowing Yuzuru, he won't ever want to rain on Javi's parade and yeah, that's a problem too with them being with - the same coach.

It is not normal for me but hey, we'll agree to disagree.

I would say a mature person just accepts what happened without trying to look for people to blame. Once someone starts blaming others, you know you're dealing with someone who's shirking responsibility. thankfully we know Yuzuru's not the type.
Now I don't want to engage in any wars right now.
and I consider this loss as a crushing, but momentary defeat. a lesson in life, not a life-wrecking tragedy. He's still very young, he's still learning how to deal with himself.

Yuzuru Hanyu shouldn't even be thinking about second places.

Not to mention...

But you don't know if he talked to Yuzuru before the press conference AND THEN went to Javi. Or if Yuzuru just wanted to be alone for a moment. Too much speculation based on just the way they got to the conference. Brian is not insensitive and as it's been said already, he knows what it feels like to come second when it matters the most. And he doesn't play favorites between the two of them, he's said it.

I don't quite understand what you want Orser to do...? After Yuzuru's skate, should he have stayed with Yuzuru and not supported Javier when he skated? Would that have been fair when Javier is also his skater?

Orser has two very fine skaters; I'm sure that he wants *both* of them to skate to the best of their ability. In this instance, Javier was having an "on" night; Yuzuru did not. I don't think Orser had some plot for Javier to definitely come out the winner.

Maybe sharing a coach isn't working for Yuzuru, but I don't see that as Orser's fault.

video with PJ Kwong I know he is trying really hard to smile and be happy for Javi  and him talking about his disappointing skate with his head down made me cry... But he looks like he is looking forward to next season programs and I guess he even wants to try a fun program as well!

There is a huge difference between laying blame and finding the cause of the problem, and dealing with it. It's not the same thing and I don't think it's productive disregarding that things went wrong and that that doesn't just happen.

No war, we just don't agree. I wish him all the best, whatever he chooses. Yes, he's very young but time flies faster than we think. In any case, win or lose, it doesn't change a thing in my eyes, in terms of how I see him, which is as a wonderful person and a skater I consider a privilege to watch.

And now I'm even more depressed reading Yuzu's fan thread. Blaming Orser, blaming Yuzuru (mental). Don't you think these guys beat themselves up enough? Why must we find someone to blame? Agree with Fayruza, life happens.....some heartbreak, some happiness, and a lot of in between. I hope we can be more supportive of Yuzu and each other. :ghug:

Congratulations on the Silver medal Yuzuru, Go back and cry it all out like I just did. Makes the pain easier to handle. Then move forward and come back even better and even stronger. Find yourself and learn from the mistakes, I look forward to your new season and new programs.

I'm glad I saw Yuzuru live, reinforced my love for his skating, pain and sorrow aside.

You've answered your own question - yes, I want Yuzuru's coach to be fully focused on him. Yes, I want him to be with him when something like this happens (and no, talking to him is so not enough, to answer someone above. Not when something this big happens). No, his coach should not be with anyone else in these moments. No, his coach should not be helping another skater defeat Yuzuru. No, his coach should not be supporting someone else at moments like these. His coach needs to be fully focused on him. (in my opinion, of course, all of the above)

I am not blaming Orser for being with Javi, nor have I ever said there's any kind of conspiracy so I'd thank you not to put words in my mouth. I said, and I'll repeat it, he should not be sharing coaches with his biggest rival, at the least, or in essence with anyone who in any way, pulls that attention from him, in a big way and I think he should rethink his coaching situation. I also don't think his mental situation is improving and it is only going to get worse. Maybe Orser is the best there is in this case, but maybe not. Yuzuru will decide and live with his decision. I'll cheer him on either way but I am allowed an opinion. Anyway, I'm done with this talk here, it should be a positive place from what I gather.

Yeah, and fan fest forums are usually the place where you can lay a finger on the real causes of what's going on.
I sometimes wish people would take a lesson in humility from Yuzuru.

I don't think I was rude to you, so I don't see a reason to be rude to me, as I am allowed an opinion, even if it doesn't agree with yours. Don't worry though, I won't make the mistake of addressing you again, so if I was rude, it won't happen again. And as I said above, I'll stop talking about this here.

Lets look at history. 2012-2013 season: Yuzuru has reigning world bronze medalist, set 2 world records on GP circuit, beat Chan at finals, and even won his first national title. To only fall 9th in the short at worlds and a disappointing 4th at worlds. However, he rebounded back to become the OGM. This is just a small blip in his career. I trust myself and MANY OTHER WELL ACCLAIMED SKATING LEGENDS that he is indeed the best of all time and I'm pretty sure "the best of all time" (who is only 21) has a bright future ahead of him that he hasn't even begun yet.
Lets celebrate Yuzu is now a:
-bronze medalist
-two time silver medalist
-a gold medalist
-two time silver small medalist
- three time bronze small medalist
-and 3 time gold small medalist

That IMO is an amazing worlds history!

thanks, Lindacrow for linking that pj interview. I like her interviews with him. She's gentle, patient, and supportive when talking with him, trying to make him feel comfortable when she can tell he's hurting and is having difficulty. He certainly is trying to put on a brave face.. those tears are ready to fall very soon. It certainly does sound like he wants to try something fun, like Javi. Well, it would be something new for him, a new challenge, and maybe being less intense during the program would be good for him too.

I agree. I'm so glad to have seen Yuzu skate live. It really is incredible to see him skate live. Even if it wasn't perfect, it was awesome to see him at the medal ceremony. And he did break the World Record with Seimei at NHK and GPF. My hope and prayer is that he rests, heals and spends time with family and realizes that he still had an incredible season.

Yes! I want a fun program for Yuzu, the intense programs suit him but he could have more fun with an more upbeat and expressive program. It will be good for tbh, its time to give these intense and serious programs a break.
