2016 World Championships Pairs Free Skate

That was payback. Maxim must really stop being so disrespectful to Aljona and fellow competitors on a whole. By his own admission he is lazy. They did not prepare fully for this competition and they thought they could just wing it. Either he gets back to working hard or they simply retire.

Hopefully none of the Russian ladies were watching. I have a feeling Russia may come medal-less from this worlds. We thought it was impossible for the Russian Gymnasts in 2008 but look what happened!! :(

Well..that was shocking. I think Maxim has not recovered from his surgery. I don't think they should retire. That seems excessively harsh.
Sui/Han with silver makes me happy (even though it's not gold)

Eric is a sweetie. You might not like Meagan but Eric is.. a saint. I can't imagine skating with motormouth.

I'm so sad:cry: And I think that our ladies might leave with 3d place at best...Hope, hope..

D/R were just exquisite. This world title was well-deserved and far surpasses any of their previous competitions (including last year's win). Everything was exquisite and clean. Honestly, I was pleased to see a free skate that was modern and so different from the classical fare we've been seeing. They were the underdogs heading in and slammed the door shut on the rest of the competition. Just phenomenal!

Favorites in men and pairs had disappointing LPs, surpassed by World Champions no one thought could repeat.

And the third place person was someone making a worlds debut, and the silver medalists also repeated, and said world champions were also injured (I think?) and GPF silver medalists... :p

(So does this mean ladies is like dance?)

Haha, what would Worlds be without Aliona on the podium?
EDIT: 9 times World medallist!

Already nine time. Doesn't matter gold or just bronze at the Olympics, she should be admired. She is amazing and I love her dedication to sport. It must've been incredibly hard work, all those years.

Well that was a result I never would have predicted. Though I was really hoping Sui and Han would win, since I love their programs the most this season, I'm thrilled for D/R who have fought hard for everything they've gotten, and had such a rocky season that I don't think anybody was predicting they would repeat. I would never have though Savchenko and Massot would podium — wow!

Aliona's one of the grittiest pair girl ever. Girl almost stumbled out of the first jump on that sequence and just did the second one perfectly.

Coming after OG gold is hard. And to think, Virtue/Moir feel like failures for not repeating.

Huh?
Did V/M really ever say that they feel like failures?? I don't recall them ever saying so??

AFAIK, they certainly did not say so at the time that they announced their return to competition next season.

TAT and Gordeeva hate everything about D/R BUT do recognize technical prowess and call the win unquestionable. Gordeeva says that she is puzzled why St/Kl did not beat S/M. Called them the only ones robbed here.

:( he us not that bad

And ALL Russian off podium!! This is so far a horrible, horrible Worlds for Russia. They may only medal in women's and even there, gold is not assured... no pun intended. At least they will medal. But...men, pairs and ice-dance... nothing!!! Shocking!

OK, ice dance was the least shocking of all. Even if B/S were there, Russian was not going to be close to a medal.

I agree! I don't even think they themselves were expecting to win after a shaky season and very few clean skates all year long.

OMG, the TES. :rolleye:

They were dull and slow unlike their heydays. I feel sorry for her. She is too good for Trankov.

Technically, she is a better skater (and has better skating skills), but in terms of performance no way. He has single-handedly sold every program they've ever done. Masquerade waltz and Dracula have been iconic only because of HIS interpretation, not hers.

S/K are my personal favorites but they didn't deliver. D/R were amazing but surprised they got lower PCS than S/C for what was their best ever skate.

Insane that 3/4 disciplines will have successfully defending champions. Lol too bad it's not even possible in the ladies FS.

Demanding that V/T retire is idiotic. The level of pairs skating at this competition is likely the highest of any event in FS history (correct me if wrong). Passing the 200 mark is usually good for at least 4th at any competition. Here it was only good enough for 6th/7th.
