2026 World Figure Skating Championships | Women's Free Skate

I'm elated for Kaori. She was wonderful today and would definitely have won the Olympics with that skate if she'd done it in Milan. Still, it's incredible that she was able to have one of her best-ever skates to close out her career. I'll miss her.

Mone did better than she usually does jump-wise. I think she's the deserving silver medalist, but 150 for what that was, with a mistake on the 2Lo and some sketchy looking jumps at the end (that last 3F looked UR to me in real time). She's lovely and polished, but I don't get a depth of emotion from her skating. I think her score overall (including the short) is 5-6 points too high.

Pinzarrone to me was also overscored. Her skating is pleasant and consistent enough but a little boring. That 3Z(ur) - 3T(q) combo at the beginning wasn't called for reasons I don't understand. IMO, she should've been around 138-139. That wouldn't have changed the result.

I'm really bummed for Amber. She started off so well by nailing the 3A and the 3F-3T. I thought this might be even better than her long in Milan. Then she made the mistake on the 3S, and it's like she remembered she was at Worlds and in contention for a medal and froze up. I imagine she's also exhausted after the Olympics. I hope she becomes a World medalist one day.

Isabeau did better than Milan. She's polished and consistent, but she needs better music for next year. There are cuts of Cinema Paradiso that she could've used that wouldn't have made her program seem so one note, like 4 minutes at the same cadence. I hope she chooses programs that are better vehicles next season.

Catching up on the women's free. I really like Sarah Everhardt's free. I prefer watching her to Isabeau for some reason... Have yet to watch Kaori on replay but sounds like she was spectacular.
Me too, although they are entirely different. Sarah hasnt mastered the art of using her face to reach the audience...Isabeau uses her face but is a one trick pony. A hunching toe pointing ballerena.

I just finished watching Kaori and I agree if she had been that clean at the Olympics she would have had the Gold. Am so happy for her and Mone. I almost cried with her after her high score. Kaori just floated perfectly in that free skate. I think she'll transition well to being an enthusiastic coach. So heartwarming to see her end on the best high note for her career. One of the greatest and funniest, such the sense of humor. I will miss seeing her in the kiss and cry and miss the high spirits she brought to the sport. Much love Kaori!

......I can't believe it.

I knew it would be useless to call Kaori after THAT FS to take flower crown, so gave it to member of her coaching team (I believe).
Then, someone from Team Japan took it from him and carried it to KnC, putting it on Kaori's head.

And then I lost it.
Oh WOW. I'm so happy for you! She wore your crown! That was beautifully made!

The scores were WTT-worthy, but I'm not complaining too much. Kaori finally beat Zagitova's 2019 score. Only the short score remains to beat. I'm confident in Mao.
I know Jia wants to stay home in Korea, but this year, something was definitely missing in terms of nerves.

Wow that was an all time choke by Glenn does the 3A gets both combos out of the way then completely melts down.

I already wrote it but practice on Tuesday she performed lights out looked so confident, powerful skating then in the short program was a nervous wreck and unrecognisable from a day before. This was her chance and this point will never get a better one.
Sheesh! Don't tell me you have a bias against a skater when you have a bias against a skater! I agree that Amber had an unfortunate skate (which is a much kinder way to put it...:coffee:), and there will be fewer opportunities for her to medal as the skating seasons move on. I do give her props for the 3A, seems like that jump is getting more consistent. However, my "all-time chock" had to be in the 2022 winter Olympics free skate, when the first place skater went into the long and just completely melts down (using your words), and fell off the podium.

It does feel like we witnessed a changing of the guard, and that’s not a bad thing.

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Bradie. I think she’ll coach.

Amber runs the risk of being a one-trick pony. I always ask, if the jumps aren’t there, is it watchable? With her, I’m still on the fence. It was always my criticism of the Russians. I have no such criticism of the Japanese. It’s what makes Jason Brown so great to watch. (Note to USA Skating: Hire him to do clinics.) That being said, she needs to see if she has any goals left. She got a consistent triple Axel in her mid-20s when the conventional wisdom is that female skaters are washed up. She made the Olympics. If her goals are met, she can retire. If she comes back with the goal of me medalling at Worlds, I think she can. She’s already proven that she can do anything she sets her mind to.

Sarah is on the rise. She needs to continue to grow. If she does that, the sky’s the limit. She proved she can hold it together and has the mental side of it.

Levito may need to assess her goals. She has a world medal. Is there room for growth. I like the classical style, but she can grow.

There’s a decent chance Alysa will be back . She’ll take advantage of the opportunity afforded her via the OGM. I say savor it, girl!

I can’t speak to the juniors because I don’t know. A talented junior could sneak in.
