I feel so bad for you. Would it help to offer you a :ghug:?
Maybe you can take comfort in the fact that you got to see him at all. You didn't get to see one of the great performances, but you got to see him live. I remember after I saw him only in practice for the first time, there's just so many little things you appreciate way more after you've seen them in person.
It's easy for me to talk, I know :console: I'm really sorry you didn't get to see him on a better day.

Thanks for the hug. I'll get over it. It's just a bit fresh right now. Who knows, maybe I'll try to catch him at a Skate Canada or something if it's close enough (since he doesn't seem to do Skate America). My friends who have been here have attended practices and says his are interesting so if I can check out the stuff outside of the competition like that then all the better. I forget if they permit you to go to practice during GPs. In general there were quite a few good skating efforts last night which is why I wanted to go to the mens at all. It would be stacked. But of course what I wanted to see the most ended up deflating the whole thing. But with some time I'll look back on it and be okay. Yuzu will be okay too.

I hope the loop makes its debut next year.

A few pages back Cheerinhanson (spelling) wrote how she is so very happy to have seen Yuzu live even though he had a rough skate. I've make a decision to attend a competition next season, and must be the one that we can see the practice. I would love to see Yuzu in practice.

I decided the same, Alia! May it happen for us both, and for all who want to go to a competition!

Yes yes! And hanmgse may go to gpf! I plan to go competition next season!

I know cheerinhanson wrote. He gives his energy to every moment. Even when he can't do well or fall, he shall keep. He lives every second of his life with his whole body and soul in not just figure skating but all . That is just shining and makes us moved.

But it happened the second year in a row. What did he learn? This year he was in the best form ever and it was his best chance. The next time he maybe won't be in such a good shape. And he didn't look that happy with the silver medal.

Did he ever visit a sport psychologist? Maybe he should try it.

Please don't say it like he learned nothing. Stories are different, he learned something else.

Fernandez had never won a GPF gold medal, lost 2 times consecutively on his home soil. What did he learn? Uno didn't do well in 4CC FS and he repeated his fate in WC FS. What did he learn? They are only some samples, I am not meaning to discuss them or degrade them, I just want to say, things are not working like that. Result's repeating doesn't mean the person is repeating the same fault and not learning.

Hanyu's not in good shape last year, so he learned the importance of how to manage his health. He came to Boston with a rather healthy body. Yet he lost again, then that's another story, another issue. This is the day right after he lost the competition. Isn't it reasonable to give him time to figure out the full picture? He seems having some thoughts about that already, it's already a class of genius. I haven't found it's a normal benchmark for people to write a revenge plan immediately after their failure. What do people expect him? Give a 20-minute deliberation to his defeat in front of the public within a day?

He lost, of coz he's not happy. He would love to win each time. I hope so too. Yuzuru love everything in gold so much lol. He hasn't done it yet, but he's trying to. He might not be in good shape but might be even better. Idk, I can't tell the future. I just dun get it, is this WC 2016 going to crash his career or something? I do also expecting him to win this year. But looking back he's actually just missed the FS and at the same time Javier has finally pulled together to a clean program and won.

He's not some neglecting his rivals, lazy, absent-minded person. He took things serious enough. Hit and miss, he missed it twice. Yet stories are different and he's preparing to win again.

Previously heard the club has psychologist(s), but not sure. Indeed not bad to try if he hasn't.

yeah. He said it was a bit difficult to take care of two atheletes at the same time.
I'm honestly worried now. Sorry but I have to say this, Yuzuru is very emotional, so he needs some psychological support and I am afraid Brian doesn't have enough time for him. Brian has done all the best he can. But Yuzuru needs more than thus a few comforting words. His mentality was totally off in the free and all his coach says is "it's difficult to take care of two athletes at the same time". Does Brian even know what happened to Yuzuru's mentality?

Yuzuru does have a psychologist in his team. The article which had come out after the Olympics mentioned it.
Besides that Yuzu has a HUGE supporting team around him all the time when he's competing. He has his mother, Brian, Kikuchi-san, other TCC members who care for him and checked him after every practice. That's great base to build a right mindset. This time he was seriously affected by incident with Denis and it sure played a role as well. He's already progressed I think. He just needs time and safe competitive atmosphere.

“I love him, i love him, and it’s so touching to see this big champion who is almost like apologising to the crowd; what an exceptional gift of heart and humility. (…) There’s so much content in his program, so much content that says “look at me i want to be olympic champion in one year and a half” and look at him he touches the ice and bows once again to the crowd. There’s a lot of nobility in this skater”

-Annick Dumont about Yuzuru Hanyu after his free program at Worlds 2016 in Boston

What a nice quote :) she is a french coach.

not only that, he didn't really support him with the Ten incident. I'm sure he wanted Yuzu to calm down but when you defend your other athlete(he said Brian had the same problem in that warm up but he was more cool about it) and you underestimate the feelings of Yuzury,it's not very wise, it's not supportive,he should have shown more understanding imo..

In his own words Yuzu is very intense and emotional and he's still a mystery for his coach, he doesn't get him very much.

Brian acted like a perfect PR specialist. He didn't blame Den saying he was guilty or Yuzu was right, he knew the people wouldn't swallow that. They'd blame Yuzu and his team for unbased accusation. His comment was way more successful than Carroll's one. He showed calmness, control and admitted that yes, that was Yuzu's mistake but he'll understand and overcome it. Nothing serious.

ITA. Besides, what would be the point? He knew Yuzuru cared more about the WC than a problem with a fellow athlete, he was there on a mission. So he tried to make Yuzuru let it go because he is too good for those problems to get to his head and he needed to focus on what he had gone to do.

Oh and he did stood by Yuzu, he said Yuzu had the right of way because it was his run through. But, for the sake of avoiding more attention that could backfire, he tried to cut if all off as quickly as he could.

I think Brian has done the best he can but Yuzuru needs more than that. I'm the kind who wants Yuzuru to stay at CC for long because they have good training environment and facilities and he needs to be in a stable place. However they should consider the thought of sending Yuzuru to a sport psychologist weekly (if he hasn't been sent to some kind of therapy). Yuzuru's mentality was very unstable for the whole week and he got angry so easily. That is very dangerous when you need to calm down your mind in the biggest competition of the season. Something happened to his mind and there should have been a way to deal with it.

Why are you worried ??? Brian has handled both Javi and Yuzu at the same time for quite a while now and none seemed to be lacking his presence.

Watching pictures and videos of interviews and medal ceremonies, Yuzuru seems actually in a better mental state to handle his silver than he was last year. And let's remember that Yuzu going clean back to back on two programs is more the exception than the usual for him. If there was truly a problem with Orser, Yuzu wouldn't have been able to deliver NHK and GPF like he did this season.

I think the only reconsideration Yuzu might do is to not stay away from Toronto as long as he did between Nationals and Worlds this season to prepare the next one. And even that is only pure speculation from me based on pretty much nothing.

Yuzu had a step back in his consistency, and would have Javi faltered too, Yuzu would have win and that's it. Why would he change coaches, teammates and environment so close to the Olympics when it's those coaches, teammates and environment that helped him develop into being able to become much more consistent ?

Yuzu's english is improving greatly this season (and I think having to communicate through email with Orser might have been a big help for that particular progress), he can communicate with Brian better as well as with Tracy and the others at the cricket club. He was even capable to explain in a post-LP interview that he's thinking about some solution to the problems which led to his mistake in his long.

Seriously, I was much more worried for Yuzuru last year than now. He's fully supported by his coaches and teammates, he can train in a happy and safe environment where his ambitions are worked with and not squashed, etc etc.

I don't get at all this negative and anxious feelings some people in this thread are having. Oo

did he have to compare him with Javier? do you think that's wise?

"He was angry, and I don't see him angry that often," Orser said. "I told him, 'You just need to breathe. You need to let it go. We have to move on.' He's too good to let that kind of stuff bother him."

so far so good and then:

Orser noted his other student, defending world champion Javier Fernández, had a similar problem in the same practice session with a skater other than Ten. The easygoing Spaniard shrugged it off.
"Javi is just less emotional than Yuzu," he said.

i mean, if Yuzury is very sentimental, and he was very angry at that moment, that's not the way to give him comfort, i think..

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2016/03/31/169878518

He had to compare because the interviewer brought up recent incident with Javi and Max. Like, if those two could cope and hug, why can't Yuzu? So he gave his honest and non-insulting answer:)

Plus let's remember that Brian saying those "it's a bit difficult to take care of two high skater at the same time" is just his usual go to answer to the media. Didn't it occurred to anyone here that he's protecting his skaters's intimacy and private life by not reporting every tiny details about them ? Because that's what the media are after when they ask that question, what they are really asking is "do you play favouritism ? is one of them a big diva? do they actually hate eachother? can we make up a big drama out of nothing just to get clicks and sells stuff ?"

My opinion will be probably be pretty worthless seeing as I'm mainly a lurker. However, I find this seemingly mass reaction to an 'unexpected' result disconcerting.
I don't think Yuzu bombed, he didn't do his best but he didn't fall all over the place, which he could have done if he had completely lost his focus. He didn't perform his best, and he has already identified what he needs to work on in order to try and strengthen that area (his mental state). I think he's completely switched on for someone his age, and incredibly self aware.

But if we do not have any mistakes in life then we do not learn from them and we do not grow character or strength.

What seems lost in this is that he is only young, and as fans we should not be adding to the pressure he undoubtedly feels. I don't want him to apologise for this result, I want him to sit down with himself and then his team and work on what he is dissatisfied with. As fans we should support him whatever his result and not resort to 'backseat' coaching/mothering. None of us know him personally, we don't know the exact circumstances or constraints placed on his life. It's lashing out when being unable to deal with the disappointment and as I've seen described 'embarrassment' of his result. Whilst he has dealt with his personal disappointment with grace, dignity and a mature attitude, sadly it seems some of his fanbase have not.

Seeing all of this finger pointing and blaming over a SILVER MEDAL seems absurd. Who cares if he doesn't win another medal in his life so long as he is happy, healthy and is performing beautiful routines with or without falls. It's times like these that I think he's entirely sensible not having a social media presence.

THANK YOU!:agree:

Like many fans I was also heartbroken? about Yuzu's FS performance. Not because of a missed gold medal but because it was obviously not the quality FS he had wanted to show at Worlds. My stream was choppy during his program & I have yet to re-watch it. However, I'm thinking his performance probably seemed worse than it actually was given our grand expectations of him. I'm at least happy he was able to deliver an SP he could be satisfied with.

Regarding Yuzu's current training situation, I fully believe that if he felt it was not conducive to the goals he has set for himself then he would definitely make a change. I trust he and the people he is closest to know best what is working or not working for him.

I had originally planned to attend Worlds in Boston to watch the Men's SP, FS and possibly the Gala. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it happen.
Like many of you, I am also setting a goal to one day see Yuzu skate in person.

Much appreciation for all the interesting info, resources, updates, and general fun stuff so many of you bring to this thread!:thank:
