Question: what GPs do you think Hanyu will skate in next season? I think NHK is a given but I'd really like to see him come back to the US so I'm hoping for Skate America.

I'm also hoping for Skate America since he hasn't done it for a few years. I think it will be NHK and either Skate America or Cup of China.

The WC podium turned out to be different from expected. The GPs are in the order of SA, SC, COR, TEB, COC, NHK. I think the following is the most likely assignments of the top 3 at WC.

Yuzuru: COR, NHK
Javier: SC, TEB
Boyang: SA, COC

Yuzuru will get NHK, Boyang will get COC. So Javier can only do two of the first 4 GPs and not back-to-back events. The key question is which other fed gets to invite Boyang. Both SC and SA wants to invite Boyang to give their skaters a better chance to qualify for the final because he is the weakest of the 3 medalists. (COR and TEB don't care because their men are weak.) I think most likely SA will invite Boyang because Chinese fed wants to send Boyang to study under Frank Caroll. So Boyang will get SA and Javier will get SC. (I don't think SC wants to invite Javier either because they have Patrick there. But if SA insists on inviting Boyang, then SC has to invite Javier. Javier can't do COR and TEB back-to-back.)

The other possibility is:

Yuzuru: COR, NHK
Javier: SA, TEB
Boyang: SC, COC

i.e. SC gets to invite Boyang and SA has to invite Javier. Either way, the most likely GPs Yuzu will get are COR and NHK, unless they do the following:

Yuzuru: TEB, NHK
Javier: SA, COR
Boyang: SC, COC

I don't think the above scenario is likely because both Yuzuru and Javier will get one week less between the two GPs. I don't see any of them would prefer that.

So my conclusion is: COR and NHK.

It may be dangerous to generalize the popular music to consider the whole people, but as you may know, there are some well-known Finnish heavy metal bands and the popularity of the tango is characteristic for the elder genarations of the Finns. Not the passionate Argentinian tango, but a very genuine slow Finnish version of it. In youtube you can find some videos of the Finnish tango. But neither the Finnish heavy metal music nor the Finnish tango is suitable for figure skating music, if you think World Championships in Helsinki next year. But most of the Finnish people are sports fans so we will make a good audience for any kind of music the figure skaters will perform.

It comforts me that through the rough times for Yuzu and his fans, we can support each other and look on the bright side.
Rough times?
A silver medal! -Yuzu, Congratulations. 3 years on the podium. Next time it will be gold. You will make it happen. No one else can.

Yes, you are right. At Worlds he had : 2012-bronze, 2013- 4 th place after a sensational FP, 2014-gold, 2015-silver, 2016-silver, and he has only 21 years old. It is the best skater, no doubt ! The first to had over 100 at SP, over 200 at FP, over 300 in total, the youngest Olympic Champion after Dick Button in 1948, and so on.
I am glad he was happy at Gala:

I hope for COR because Yuzuru won his first Grand Prix medal and it changed men's skating forever sigh good memories. I'm also hoping for Skate America and TEB since he hasn't won them yet.

He has only won COR and NHK so far. I guess Russia and Japan are his lucky countries. He won his first major titles all in Russia and Japan (2013 GPF, 2014 Olympics, 2014 WC) even when he didn't give perfect performances. Other European countries are also good for him. But Russia and Japan bring him the best luck.

His worst luck happened in USA (meltdown in the only two competitions he did in the USA), Canada (always low-balled even when he put on a good fight, 2011 GPF, 2013 WC, 2015 SC) and China (big accident happened when he went there and the performance he gave in China are usually bad.)

Great! Thank you for your answer! I had no idea a bout Finnish tango, I'm going to check it out on Youtube.:)

I think Javi could be invited to NHK and Yuzu could go to both Skate America and CoR. He will have more time for GPF and will have GPF and Nationals back to back only. Some travelling involved but not critical.

Why would JSF invite Javi to NHK? They can't rely on Javi to sell tickets for them. (I actually hope he never competes in the USA again. He always gives his worst ever performances in the USA.)
