Nam Nguyen

Do you think this is his way of confirming it's true? Either way, I guess we'll find out in a few days...who will go with him to TCC?

This could be his way of confirming... his last post said goodbye, then the rumours start.... and then he posts this. He knows what is going on in social media... I just hope he is happy and the change is good for him. I think he would have done better next season no matter what, but sometimes you just need to start over. Let's hope it works.

well, the rumor thread has vanished... so it's still not official... but here are my 2 cents :)

Sometimes, you can have the best coach in the world, the best mentors, the best environment, the best parents in the world, but you get into a rut and nothing is working.....and then, a new door opens for you where you can try to build up from scratch, without expectations, without having the feeling that you will disappoint these people who are supporting you, without the pressure of being who you were before hitting rock bottom....

this hits home for me, and i can totally understand why Nam would feel like moving and starting fresh.

Do I wish he'd stay? Probably because I admire Brian Orser. However, the best coach in the world is sometimes not the best for everyone....

2 days after Nam first posted that "Good bye" message on twitter and instagram, he logged into his VK account for the first time since Dec and posted that photo of him and Polina at Worlds. That was on Apr 6.

And sometimes training with the 2 best in the world can also be difficult. Both had stellar achievements this season, and when you train with them and have a poor season it can have a negative impact too... no matter how much you enjoy their company, support, and the environment.

And sometimes training with the 2 best in the world can also be difficult.

Training with the 2 best in the world and 2 dozens highly aspiring fellow skaters can be very difficult. Maybe he also looks at another model, the other best in the world with full attention from a devoted coach.

The best coach is the one who helps you the most to achieve your goals most happily.

I think Nam's decision is quite reasonable. Even some Yuzu fans want Yuzu to leave because Brian is obviously too busy handling both Yuzu and Javier.

And that's ridiculous, since there's no valid reason for Yuzu to leave at all. Unlike Nam, if he does wish for a fresh start. As sad as it can be that he may not be part of TCC anymore (since there's no official announcement yet, we still can't say he is), if that's what he needs to feel better and start in a fresh way the next season, then there's no reason to not support him indeed.

I have heard from an insider that he has a father who is rather tyrannical with a hot temper, with whom Orser also had trouble dealing on occasions. I kind of have a feeling the father lost patience with Orser after a dismal season of the son and yanked him out...

I have also had this confirmed by an insider. Apparently Brian ended the relationship. Nam is off to the USA to train with Polina Edmund's coaching team.

It shows how rare it is for a coach to end a partnership if so many of us assumed the opposite...

Theyve been together since, maybe, 2012? I remember reading an article where brian listed what he expected of his skaters, but I don't really remember the answer... something like tried their best, put in effort etc., so I wonder what changed for him to make this decision... I remember brian saying at worlds 2015 he was most proud of what nam had done (of the 3 cricket bros) and all the work he had put in.

Brian tried not to invest too much emotionally after Yuna but still felt hurt by Adam's leaving. His ending the relationship is unusual. But his stable is really full these days and having to deal with parents may be too much for him.

Patrick has had two coaches quitting him, once two months before the 2010 Olympics, and once right after Worlds 2012, for similar reasons, the coach being unhappy with his close relationship with the specialist introduced by the coach.
