2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

After reading about all the restrictions at Worlds (tablets, water bottles, etc.) I don't see any info whatsoever for this competition...anyone familiar with the arena? What do we need to know? I looked on their website and it says they don't allow cameras with detachable lenses...do you think they are strict about that? Surely it should be ok during practices? I also wonder why there isn't a practice schedule posted yet...the lack of organization seems kind of worrisome.

This is commercial competition. This is not local event, GP, Euro or Worlds. Did you see cost of tickets or prize pool? I am even somewhat pleased, because it is another way to earn money for the athletes, as well as the organizers. Don't expect widespread broadcasts and full coverage of this tournament. It isn't for this was organized. :)

I don't care about the broadcast, I will be there in person, that's why I have questions about the arena.

Icenetwork apparently broadcasts to non-subscribers in certain countries:

Sounds too good to be true. Is Russian TV (Match, Arena) showing anything?

I have never seen strick security at this arena. If they ever decide to put up a schedule (Coming SOON!) I will go to practice on Friday and see what's up. I have to say this seems to be the anti-Boston event. Boston had strick security rules and kept changing them before and through the week. Here, no one is saying anything.....not on the FAQ, or the non specific event arena policies.

They basically say they can do as they please. If it pleases them to not let in a plastic bottle, so be it.

Please, Sir, may I have a schedule?

Huh??? I believe you have completely misunderstood what the blackout page is saying.

AFAIK, the point of the blackout page is to give warnings to subscribers that many subscription events are available only to subscribers in the U.S. and U.S. territories. The events listed are blacked out for subscribers elsewhere.

Notable exceptions to the blackout page are US Nats and the US Classic, both of which are available to subscribers everywhere.

There was supposed to be a French stream and a Japanese stream. But I think both are delayed. ... .

I don't know about a Japanese stream, but Nippon TV has a page devoted to TCC (I posted the link earlier). I can't read Japanese, but until proven otherwise, I would expect that NTV's longstanding plans for extensive coverage remain intact?

Is it me, or is it weird to see this logo plastered in the ice? As if TCC were primarily a promotion of Spokane, and only secondarily were a skating comp?

On a positive note, this fan-art (fan-art in more ways than one ;)) for Team Asia is very nice:

From this news article it appears they were setting up the stadium in Feb~~
Does this mean no other event in the stadium between Feb and now? I also find it kind of strange.

sometimes arenas cover the ice with the basketball, etc flooring... so it could be that they prepped the ice, then covered it for basketball and forgot about it till now as it was a non issue.

Not sure if this suggests C/B will replace P/C.

Yeah. I don't why they would decline the invitation. It's fun. And money.

Match TV or Arena TV do not have such plans. Sorry.

Cheers, golden. Never mind, nobody died. I have a very vivid imagination  I'm sure I'll find a way (been lucky so far this season).

If they ever decide to put up a schedule (Coming SOON!)

I submitted a question on the FAQ page about the practice schedule. I got an email saying my question was received & I'd get a reply soon. Haven't heard further.

However, looking at my Friday practice pass, it says 10am - 3:30pm. So, that should be time for all the skaters to practice.

I'll be in Spokane Thursday through Sunday. If anyone is interested in meeting, please let me know.
