Ashley Wagner

Is anyone going to be at the competition April 22? (can't remember the initials). I had thought to watch it on IN, but I haven't decided whether to pay extra for the coverage, especially as the 22nd isn't a schedule-flexible day for me.

If anyone is going to be able to see it live or otherwise, maybe we could keep the home fires burning for Ashley here. We haven't done this in the past, so IDK ... it's not my skill set, at least until after the fact, so I certainly can't expect others to do what I don't.

I'm going to see if videos are posted, anyway. I'd like to see Ashley's (and Jason's, and Adam's, and Alexa/Chris) skates without first seeing the spoilers that will be in the comp thread.

And if I do find videos, I'll alert others or post them here.

Been thinking lately on what Ashley would need to do to keep herself in the game the next two years. Now some good performances at her grand prix's and her silver medal performance at Worlds, the judges have proven that they WILL give the components to Ashley when she deserves them! Rafael has dones wonders with Ashley.

Even after watching Ashley do a pretty a good job at TCC, you can see she is TRYING to contain that consistency, and she skates with the confidence of a world medalist.

The next two years, let's be honest, she won't be able to get 3A or 4S or something insane like that. I think she just needs to keep up her flip-toe technique, as well as start practicing the loop-toe if she can. I think for Ashley, that would be a nice trick to have in the arsenal in case the flip doesn't go exactly as planned in the SP. Also, keep attempting to get that lutz edge further over. It's still flat. I think she's capable of pushing herself to practice these elements.

I have faith that Ashley will continue to thrive until 2018. Pshh, who KNOWS, with Carolina coming back, Ashley may even stay until 2022. I have this feeling that we STILL haven't seen the best from her yet!!!

Ashley is going to be a judge at the Miss Universe Pageant in June.

Good for her getting mainstream out of skating exposure! Also... I admit I kind want to here some of her comments, and I want to see what her question for the contestants is going to be.

Love Ashley, but what I see at the link in the tweet is a more limited (but nice :)) role for her.

My understanding is that Ashley was a judge to select #FindingMiss52 finalists for public voting that will determine a 52nd contestant for the Miss USA pageant.

Would be great if this role leads to Ashley becoming a full-fledged judge on the Miss USA (or even Miss Universe) telecast. But we're not there yet, as far as I can tell.

(Miss USA is part of the Miss Universe organization ... all owned by IMG.)

Ashley recently had used the hashtag in a couple of her own social media posts, and I was wondering to what it referred.
Thanks to your post :), Stitch, I was able to see what it was all about.

:agree::clap::2thumbs::2thumbs:

That confidence showed at TCC. I think that if she just keeps improving her competitive consistency and her technique -- and we know that her artistry will be maintained at a high level -- we'll see wonderful things from her.

I really feel that at this point Ashley isn't just skating for herself. The judges showed with her scores at Worlds that they want to give high marks for interpretation, presentation and high performance levels. It takes someone to do it, so that they can reward those qualities. It takes someone like Ashley who's willing to take risks. With her commitment to artistry and to giving something to the audience in addition to technical thrills, she's inspiring other skaters as well.

Here's a link to the CBS coverage of Ashley's TCC FS. I recommend it, if only to hear Scott's commentary and Tanith's. I first watched the IN coverage, and while Tania K. had some interesting things to say, her commentary doesn't come close to being as thorough and engaging as Scott's, in particular. (I really miss Scott. His commentary gives details to uber-FS fans, while also explaining things to general audiences.)

What I feel is spectacular about Ashley's performance is that she made her skate count, and didn't give up on anything in her program, even though Team NA had already won. After she left off the triple toe after her first triple flip, it would have been fine if she'd just skated the rest of her planned program. But instead, she added the triple toe to the triple flip well into the second half of her program, when she was already tired. She just blew me away with her passion and her determination.

She didn't, and won't, let up on her quest to keep improving. So admirable!

As Scott points out, Ashley skated in the toughest place of the night: after  Medvedeva had skated perfectly, with IMO the added aura and finesse that she's gained now that she's the world champion. Many skaters would be intimidated after such a program. Ashley used her music and her movement to cast a spell, and absolutely commanded the arena. Like ... pressure? what pressure?:laugh:

Oh. My. Goodness.

Saturday, May 14th, 2016 will be a day I never forget. I met Ashley (and Adam) for the first time!!
So can I just say a few things-
She is the SWEETEST person. I am very active on twitter and she recognized me! She said "Oh my gosh, it's so nice to finally meet you! I was looking forward to this!" She is so genuine and drop dead gorgeous. I mean, I knew she was gorgeous, but in person, just WOW

She totally was so gracious because I had a lot of stuff for her to sign and gave her a birthday present so I took a lot of her time. She gave me two giant bear hugs and was just amazing! My little 8 year old student went up with me and competed for the first time the following morning (she got 1st!) and when I told Ashley that she was competing for the first time the next day, she gasped and asked "Are you super nervous?" My student, who was very shy at first with her, nodded, and then Ashley got down to her level. looked her in the eye, and (I'm loosely quoting on this one) said, "well, tomorrow when you step out on that ice, you're gonna be even more nervous than now, but just remember when you take your start, that you love what you do and that no matter what, that is what matters." She was so incredible to her!! And then she went back to get a picture signed that had both Adam and Ashley and when she left Adam said "take that with you tomorrow, it will bring you good luck!"

My student absolutely ADORES them now, and Ashley even told her congrats when I tweeted the results. Moments like this, this little 8 year old girl will never forget.
There were many other things to note- Adam was incredibly gracious when I was fawning over Ashley and giving her birthday presents
- Ashley totally got in on a present for my boss at my rink who is team Gracie, and signed a pic for him saying "To my biggest fan ;)"
- I competed a month ago, and my nails were loosely inspired by Ashley's nails at Worlds, and when Adam asked me if they were inspired by hers, I tried to deny it but he didn't believe me! I gave up and said yes, and Ashley told me to get them done exactly like hers for my next one, because then I would skate perfect. I'll think about it!
-They are both tiny
- Ashley gets nervous for shows, especially Hip Hip Chin Chin because it was her competition program
And then, I got to watch them perform!! It was a local ice rink, and I was sitting on the ice (2nd row so not the best view) but WOW up close and personal!!
Ashley did "dangerous woman" and "Hip Hip Chin Chin"
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!! Sass, perfect jumps, FACE, spins, SHE SKATES SO FAST, just amazing!!

This is an experience I will never forget. Ashley is probably the sweetest figure skater I have ever met. Wow.

Congrats theskatingbutterfly! :) Thanks for the report! The more I read/ see about Ashley's personality, the more I adore her! I hope your boss will also get on team Wagner after this

:thank: so much for sharing this experience with us, skating butterfly. This is a great story, on so many levels.

If I had to single out one thing, it would probably be her sharing her competing philosophy, which is that loving what you do is what matters. Wow, your student will never forget that experience; nor you! And I love the light moments: your fingernails... and it was Adam who noticed! ... team Gracie, AW's nerves for HHCC, personality, performance. Reminds me that Tania K. said after Ashley's worlds SP that she could see Ashley had even stepped up all her little movements a notch, for the people in the upper seats. :points:

Awesome Ashley Absolutely Amazes!
