Yes!

It feels like he really love to express something with his skating... He took a long time till he got the difficult jumps (I’ve heard triple axel needed 5 years!) During the time, he must have competed by his PCS and other elements than jumps. His artistic expressions and solid technics really tell his past hard work…
He is tiny, but on the rink, he’s like a King. He manipulates the space… We cannot take our eyes off this boy..

I’ve read that the announcement of GS assignment will be held at the end of June… Cant wait!:drama:

I can't wait to find out what the music is for his new programs. The suspense is already killing me! I also really do hope he gets someone to help him with his jump technique before he hurts himself! How about that new style cantilever!? I love it (and him!) Who knows, maybe Dai's good influence will convince him to rest one day a week. Lots of hopes for him for the new season.

Yes, like many fans, I want him to improve his risky landings…:drama:
Dai is the skater whom shoma respects especially. No wonder Dai’s imfluence can be seen in him. They have some in common. For example, even one arm movement by Dai attracts me. The same with Shoma…

On the TV program, some skates come to the commentators’ room. The below is his talk.
Shoma says about his new competition programs he still hasn’t had no vision! He managed to complete this exhibition program for one week. About this ex, he says the piece’s the new genre to him, but he expects it helps him with his growth.

About his quad flip. He practiced 4 loop in the depression of Worlds. Then, he happen to try 4 flip for change of pace and luckily got. About next season, he wants to put both 4 flip and 4 loop in his program.

Further, he talks a lot about his expression. He enjoys expression now. The feelings to want to skate like this, like that come up to him while his skating. He wants to focus most on the expression most this new season.

Thank you Mikaboo. Just love this kid! So wonderful to see something new (in a different style) from Shoma. Maybe with a little luck we'll see the new exhibition at Skate America, deep V and all.

I hope you do see him! He has many deep V's so he'll probably take at least one of them if he goes to Skate America

Oh!! Thank you, mikaboo! His skating is a great joy to watch--spare, lyrical, yet with such energy and strength. He seems to have grown in assurance and expression even since TCC, as he did all year with each competition!

King of the Deep V!:agree: Seriously though, I love that when they interview him now, he seems SO much more at ease. He was still so painfully shy at the beginning of the year. I also was hoping at TCC that he was watching Jason Brown closely (and taking notes!:) ) on artistry, expression, and emotion. And I have to believe these show experiences are so good for him.

Thank you for that interesting info Hamaguri. He has so much potential. This is really an exciting time to be watching figure skating! Pardon all my gushing over him, but I really do love his skating (and him)...And although I love Coach Higuchi, I can't help but wonder what Lori Nichol, Shae-lynn (spelling?) Bourne, or (gasp) Rohene Ward would choreograph for Shoma.

He is getting matured. I’m sure he won’t cease to surprise me as long as he stays healthy (Just wish for his injury free!:clapper:)

Oh, yes! I’m a big fan of Jason like many figure skating fans. Especially in TCC, he was just marvelous. He’s like a ballet dancer and skated freely as if he were a bird! I can’t believe such an expression is possible with skating!
Shoma said this one year of his senior debut was very fruitful. He’s growing at a high speed, watching and following other great skaters, as yuzu was so when he was younger (Of course, yuzu still keeps learning from good examples/references!) .:)

Your spell is correct!
Lori and Shae left great works with Dai. I can easily imagine Shoma and them will go well. :agree:
Further, Rohene Ward is fantastic! He’s a choreographer of Jason? Artistic expressions, transitions in his coreo are wonderful and I feel that the way he uses/puts each element like spin is unique and quite fun to watch!

His coreographer... it’s dilemma for me.:drama: It’s similar to yuzu’s case. Until he left his long-time coach Nanami Abe after Worlds 2012, she’d made his programs and they really matched him like Romeo and Juliet 1. Since he left her, the prominent choreographers have given him the great works and I love them so much. Still I long for Nanami’s works sometimes. it feels like Nanami knew his physical traits more than else and yuzu seemed so comfortable with her choreography (Now many fans aspire that for current yuzu.)…It seems Higuchi coach for Shoma is the same as Nanami for yuzu...

Anyway, the possibility is quite low that he changes his training environment/choreographer at least until 2018. He’s shy and it would take some time before he could communicate enough with new coach/choreographer:drama:.

I loooove Jason too and it didn't really occur to me since it was at a competition, but I hope he really did watch Jason Brown closely and took notes.
I was a bit concerned before when he said he only watched Daisuke's videos but at FaOI last season, he said he watched (IIRC) Stephane Lambiel and Johnny Weir so I'm glad he took the opportunity to study other great skaters too.

I still have choreography thoughts in my head and am thinking how Jeffrey Buttle came to Japan and choreographed something for Marin Honda. Also Marin is going to Detroit for a short time to work with Marina Zueva. Rika is getting choreography done by Shae. Seems that Shoma could benefit from the same type of situation. No need to change coaches or make a permanent move - just bring in someone from the outside, preferably to Japan to work with him. I can't imagine him moving overseas. He's a very young 18! It might be too disruptive for him...And Rohene does Jason's choreography, so he would be good too. Just don't let Rohene do his costumes!!!! :palmf::confused2::eekn:

LOL, Ditto & Amen!!!

Really, I'm afraid our King of the Deep V would have to change his name to Lord of Sparklies (or similar). Or he'd have something like that unfortunate Takahito Mura getup...That being said though, do want to add that I think Rohene is a genius as a choreographer and I have great respect for him! I know he could create something awesome for Shoma. :bang: :bang: :bang:

I don’t see if it’s possible to invite an overseas professional to his triaging rink, but, at least about choreographers, it’s normal for Japanese skaters to request foreign choreographers. His rink mate Kanako does so (She’s worked with Shae, Camerlengo, Marina). Provably, it depends on Shoma. :drama:

I didn’t know that Jeff once had worked for Marin!
Jeff often comes to Japan for ice shows and stays long. So he has some time for choreography?

Charlie and Mura got to know well through Mao’s ice shows, then last year they worked together.
Shows have the chance to see retired skaters. Until now, he is invited to FaOI in Sapporo in June. (Provably, he will appear on DOI also…) Do you have any information about other shows of him?

Anyway, Rohene is pretty nice! I want to write to Shoma to meet him.

Hamaguri, maybe you can advise Shoma on choreographers! :luv17: He probably needs to get out of his comfort zone to work with another choreographer, but maybe he's just not ready yet. I think expectations will now be so crazy-high for him after having a great senior debut season. We know he's a really hard worker and will do his best! I think his current coach will probably be the best to guide him through all that!!!...There was an article on Marin here on Golden Skate where it said Jeffrey was in Japan recently for an ice show, and while there he choreographed her Romeo and Juliet FS. Charlie White has been in the U.S. Stars on Ice tour. In fact he was in the Chicago area recently. Not sure what he's up to next...From Shoma's comments after PIW, it sounded like they hadn't worked on any other choreography. I wish him all the best and hope for great programs - and I vote for a RED Deep V.

Arriba, I can propose that in a fan letter. I’ll try it soon (also I want to say thank you to him for wonderful moments.:)). He may be the type of person who is a bit conservative. Of course, it’s necessary think enough before you do, but for current Shoma, something new must make a good inspiration! Yes, he asserted he’d not yet decided about his new programs. He’d had the longer season for TCC, and then prepared for PIW. Now is the time he take rest and make a plan.
Further, thanks about Marin! I read the article now! Jeff must have done it during his stay for JSOI in this early April. I'm getting excited to know that.:luv17:

--------------------------------------------------------
BTW, it’s easy to send fan letters to Japanese skaters. You can send letters or presents to JSF and they forward them to skaters.
Address is as follows.

Attn: Shoma UNO (Please note you should address the skater’s name)

c/o Kishi-Memorial Gymnasium
1-1-1, Jinnan, Shibuya-ku, 150-8050, Japan

Shoma will be happy to receive any message from fans.:yay:

When I returned from Worlds, I sent him a letter congratulating him on his first Worlds and all his hard work, even though it didn't turn out exactly as he had hoped. I don't expect any answer, but I just think I wanted him to know he has a lot of U.S. fans and that we certainly understand the huge pressure the skaters feel in a big competition like Worlds. I have many hopes for him, and one is that he learns how to rest. So maybe he can rest a little before he gets into his new choreography. In the meantime, maybe you can hire a new choreographer for him. :) :yahoo:

Arriba, you are a good reference to me. I’ve always tried to send a letter or given it at shows, but I have never (of course, i'm sure i will write to Shoma to propose a new coreographer!:yahoo:). But you actually did. Showing your supports and feelings directly make a huge power for skaters. After the shock at Worlds, Shoma must have been so delighted. As you say several times about Helsinki, what’s important is next Worlds. His reaction at Boston was unpredictable for him and he couldn’t get over there. It may make a kind of trauma for the future. He himself says along the line that he should never forget the bitter at that time and wants to revenge at Worlds next. Go Shoma!

BTW, I’m thinking about his free programs. About Don Juan and Nessun dorma, I love both, and both have the vintage piece. They felk somewhat similar although they were so effective.
Towards 2018, he’ll keep this line? Or are there any specific genre or piece you want him to try?

As far as Shoma's programs for next year, I wish I had the creativity to think of something! I really LOVE tango, but I think Don Juan had the feel of a tango so it's too soon for another tango. Another important thing for the FP for him would be to find something that engages the audience. I'm thinking of people clapping along to Javi's music, Rika's music (and other skaters' programs too). It gives the skater a lift, and I think that would be helpful for him. I know he said he doesn't get any points for his cantilever move, but he likes to include it because it gets the audience involved and they cheer him on. He would be great in the FP with something that has a little "fire" to it. Personally, I love all the war horses and loved Nessun Dorma ! I have my tickets for Worlds and will cheer for him there, and hopefully he'll be at Skate America!:points:...Regarding his mail, I wonder if his agent has hired someone to cope with his mail. I would think he receives lots! :palmf:

ive heard yuzu gets 10 corrugated cartons of letters and presents per week from all over the world. shoma also must get many.

music which audience will get into is certainly essential. :yes:further, next world is Helsinki. like Sinatora in boston had perfect match, any piece which will fit for Finland, North Europe feels nice? such as Siberius violin concherto.

personally, i want to see his Libeltango with v neck outfit. he is photogenic so much. off ice, he is a shy highschool boy. but he's on ice, he gets another person, and his photos there are so handsome!

BTW, has the ticket for Helsinki been already sold? i'd love to go there!

yesterday, monthly tv program for figure skate was aired.
im serching for the video of shoma part now.

he got interview with mura at the show at the begging of the month.
mura is good at 3a, and they talked about 4a. shoma says he dislikes lutz, so if he trys another quad than current 4t, 4s, 4lo,4f, it will be 4a not 4lz.

further, about off season's plan, mura is going to us for coreo. his new programs are flamenco (sp) rachmaninov 2 ( fp)! then, the question is towards shoma and he says he must get his wisdom teeth pulled and he is really unwilling about it.

Congrats Shoma!

His interview after SP (http://blog.livedoor.jp/hana0201402015-sub/archives/5713534.html#more, the 3rd video from the top)

(About 4 flip) I’m just feeling so good. I was able to do well with not just 4 flip, but 4t 3t and 3A and it was the best SP this season, I think.
Next year’s layout, provably I’ll put 4flip to SP at all competitions, so I want to work hard.
(About last Nessun Dorma this season) This program has helped me so much and have a lot of thought with it. I've had tears and smile so far. tomorrow I’ll try to get a nice performance so that I can finish with smile.
(About 4 flip in tomorrow’s FP) I want to avoid it (laugh) but I'm sure i'll challenge.

---------------------------------------------
Final Nessun Dorma, Go shoma! Put all of you thoughts on the rink! :hap10:Just hope your smile, not tears!

Thank you for this info. Wonder who Mura's choreographer is. I think they like to keep us guessing! Oh dear, Shoma should do this :bang: :bang: :bang: before he gets his wisdom teeth pulled!
