If he admires boyang's jumping skill, he should admire yuzu's jumping skill even more because Yuzu is a much better jumper than boyang.
No he shouldn't. Really it's about personal preferences and not about comparison and standarts.;)

For the record, Kolyada has expressed his admiration for Yuzuru in interviews. His comment about Boyang was specifically that Boyang seems to jump in a way that defies gravity, and Boyang has made that impression on a lot of people. It wasn't about the finer points of technique.

I wanted to ask you guys this. After what happened in 2014 at Cup of China, is Yuzuru less likely to want to do the third or later GPs as his first GP? Considering he had an extra week after doing SC2015 and he used all that time to get to world record levels, do you think he'd prefer to start his GP season a bit earlier?

It's likely not even about Kolyada's personal likes and fears but about what the Rus Fed thinks is a better idea, and competing against a weaker opponent makes sense. Boyang and Kolyada were virtually neck-to-neck at Worlds, of course they would pick him over Yuzuru.

I think it probably has nothing to do with Yuzuru's decision specifically. He has said in the interview he doesn't wanna go to SA due to travel time, so that leaves him with CoC and NHK since SC and TEB is 1 week after CoR. If Jin got assigned at CoR, he probably would be assigned to NHK and if Yuzuru got assigned to NHK he would be assigned to CoC? If javi is assigned at CoR, it doesn't matter where he will be assigned next, no?

I think it has more to do with travel time rather than timing of the GP. His training base is in Toronto, even if CoR/CoC/TEB is scheduled earlier, I am guessing he would prefer to go to SA/SC due to less travel time. Also what happened in CoC is an anomaly due to the accident/crash, so I normally never really count what happen on that season as part of the trend. :)

Kolyada has clarified that what he was referring to specifically was that if Yuzuru withdraws he will move into 1-3 seeded group and will not be able to go to CoC due to Boyang being there. Presumably NHK is not on the list of possible destinations for Fernandez under any circumstances, so that's what Kolyada will be left with for his second assignment. It will also mean no Fernandez or Boyang at CoR, so they also depend on Yuzuru's decision if either of them is expecting to go there. It's essentially a technicality rather that anyone's grand plans and designs. And this will probably be in effect even if Yuzuru withdraws in autumn.

Ah I see, thanks for the clarification! Although, I don't really know what will happen if Yuzuru indeed withdraw after the GP assignment has been published. Will this mean Kolyada move to 1-3 seed? I always assume they will keep the 4-6 seeds as it is and the withdrawn spots would be given to a TBD skater that hasn't had a GP assignment yet.
I think this happened to Kim Yuna before. She won 2013 worlds, got GP assignments but withdrew. However I am not sure what happened with her spots after her withdrawal.

That's an interesting question, actually. Obviously they can't shuffle everyone around if someone withdraws shortly before an event. An extra skater would get an assignment somewhere either way, as a spot is freed up.

I doubt they would move him up once the assignments are out. It would imply doing the selection process all over again for all the skaters ranked below him. If JSF host-picked Yuzu for NHK, they would have to choose another skater. As for the second, perhaps someone else could get the spot based on World Standings. Yuna was replaced by Courtney Hicks and Amelie Lacoste, and those were definitely not based on the results at 2013 Worlds, Kanako, who was 4th at Worlds, didn't go through any changes in the assignments, neither did Ashley and Gracie, who were 5th and 6th.

Yeah, I thought so too. This means Kolyada will stay in 4-6 seeds, since the selection process starts today and I don't think Hanyu is in any way withdrawing this early when he has already started skating again by now.

Kolyada's 2nd GP assignment doesn't depend on who is invited to COR regardless of whether he is 1-3 seed or 4-6 seed. If he has chosen COR (or the Russian fed has chose him) as his 1st GP, he won't go to sc and teb because they are one week before and after cor. He had declined SA because it's too far, then his only options for his 2nd GP are nhk and coc regardless of who (boyang, javier, yuzuru or himself as one of the top 3 seed) is invited to cor. The only difference is, if yuzuru doesn't withdraw, he can choose between coc and nhk and he would choose coc because Boyang is a weaker rival. If Yuzuru does withdraw, he will have no choice but go to nhk.

I never said it does?.. :scratch2: Kolyada's second assignment depends on whether Yuzuru withdraws or not, nothing to do with CoR. On the other hand, assignments of the other top 6 skaters to CoR will change if Yuzuru withdraws. Javier and Boyang will be out, so Adam, Patrick or (presumably?) Shoma will have to go.

Apologies that this post is off topic, but Angelic Yuzuru just reposted my all time favorite 'caption this' series and it made me smile so much all over again. I miss Yuzuru's complex genius splendid normal cheerful self so much, and earnestly pray every day that all is well!

I love it. I am also praying every day for him to recover fully and can build this season another exciting and positive chapter in your beautiful story as an athlete. Yuzuru is an incredible human being and an unforgettable skater. He puts a lot of love in his work and seeks perfection. I love to see Yuzu in your skates on the ice. Go Yuzu! Ganbatte! You can. You are capable. You will get it. We love you.

Thank PatricksGaze by video training in TCC.

It depends on when you make the withdrawal. I believe if it's 2 wks before the competition, the hosting federation gets a open spot and can invite whoever they like (max 3 skaters per federation per discipline). But if it's within 2 wks, then there's no replacement.

Hello! I'm the girl that met Yuzu in Boston and I have a question. Has he ever stopped for fans before? I can't seem to find any photos. It seems like if you really want to meet him you have to get him alone.

https://flic.kr/p/GTtnjd

That's a photo of Yuzuru signing autographs for fans at the Grand Prix Final in 2011 in Quebec. At that time, he was not the Olympic & World champion & Daisuke Takahashi was the big star who it was difficult to approach (but even Daisuke stopped for autographs at that GPF). After the gala, when everyone was walking in the dark outside the arena toward the parking lot, I noticed that right in front of me was a rolling suitcase with a Pooh-bear strapped on top! Yuzuru was walking alone among us! So, it's clearly just because he's so popular now & has such ardent fans that he doesn't stop for autographs & photos & has bodyguards.

It seems rather presumptuous for Kolyada to speculate in June on Yuzu withdrawing from the GP. The guy's been injured, but this is Yuzuru Hanyu we're talking about! :noshake: He's a fighter and would never give up this easily. Russian mind games perhaps?

Sorry, I didn't finish what I wanted to say. I meant to say, since Kolyada's COR assignment is not impacted by the seeding change, what he was trying to say is that he will do coc if Yuzuru doesn't withdraw and he will have to change to NHK if Yuzuru does withdraw.

No, Kolyada was explaining why he doesn't know what his second GP assignment will be yet. And it's clear that he's hoping that Yuzuru won't withdrew and that he'll be able to go to COC. What on earth does his nationality have to do with it? :hopelessness:

I don't understand this. If, in case of Yuzuru's withdrawal, Mikhail can't be at the same event with Boyang at COC, why can he be with him or Javier at COR?
