Skaters on Team Japan

I'll have to see everything over again, but Keiji's program was a nice suprise. He already looks really polished with it.

Thought Uncle / Dad Keiji looked pretty good! He's off to a good start!

Shizuka was still landing a 3S3Lo a couple of weeks ago :eekn: :luv17:

Sena's Yuzuru RJ v.1 looking top was very nice. I guess he must have grown out of that one but... I should wait to see him skate in it though :shock2:

Koshiro and Sena are soooo young but they must be feeling old when watching the novice boys.
Have you seen Haruya Sasaki's videos from Coupe de Printemps? His jumps were falling apart, but he seems very expressive. He is from Team Nagakubo.

Hehe, I have posted that Shizuka’s amazing jumps in the Edge (and got 3  there) so I guess she is the eldest woman who can that combination (in the history??)

Thank you for the many links, Mikaboo. I am glad to see their performances, especially Koshiro’s R&J. :o:

- LOVE Satoko's new ex. It suits her and she looks mature there. I don't know why she doesn't just make it her new SP (with a little music cut here and there, it is possible) rather than whatever classical stuff she might be doing.
- Also, I love Mura's program esp the Stsq part
- When I heard Koshiro is doing R&J, I expect it to be more of Cohen rather than Hanyu's RJ1 but turns out it is the latter, even down to the music cuts in the early part.
- Marin's new SP is kind of similar to her previous one (Spring Sonata) but I guess it suits her since it is a youthful and dreamy program just like her previous SP so I'll live with it. Hope she'll do something else once she matures or debuts in senior, though.
- Gorgeous ex from Wakaba, she seems to mature artistically too.

Really impressed with Mura and how confident he looks with his program, considering how early it is in the season. Kudos to choreographer Massimo Scali. I can even live with the costume! :hpull:

You spoke my mind about Marin's program. I like it, it suits her, but I feel like I've already seen it. I hope Jeff Buttle has done something totally different for her R&J FS.
I love Satoko's new exhibition program too. She's such a pleasant surprise every time I see her after some break duirng the off season. She's becoming so versatile too.

Mura looked good at DOI last year as well. He was one of my favorites there and I was really looking forward to the season, then Skate America happened :dbana: Hopefully he'll stay injury free this season. Please skating gods, let them all be injury free!

I really like what Massimo Scali has been doing with Keiji and Mura. I think he did Mai Mihara's SP last season too.

Fiery and fierce programs seem to suit him well. Love the flamenco flare he put out there. About his costume, I think I am already in a state where I am immune to TJ men questionable costume choices, I barely even notice them now. :laugh2:

Agreed! Though considering she is still like, what, 14? It is understandable that there is not really much style to explore yet. Giving sensual/sexy/seductive programs are kind of out of the question; and emotional/angsty program probably requires maturity that a 14 y.o girl would not have had yet. So I think I am ok with this kind of programs for Marin for now. I forgot she will do R&J. Maybe this program will be more on the dramatic/emotional side so I'll be looking forward to it. Moreover, I generally love Jeff's work!

Love that costume of Marin's, but I finally figured out what it is that bugs me about her. She REALLY overdoes the gaping mouth thing. I know it's supposed to be dramatic, but after awhile she makes me think I'm at a koi pond. I know it's supposed to be charming too, but it isn't. I do like her Smile program tho.

Was poor Taka injured prior to Skate America last year? Either that or His costume had to have been a jinx. I was looking at the protocols. Whew! Talk about crash and burn! His jumps were awful in both the long and short programs and he placed 10th out of 12...Maybe he'll do better this year, now that he's skating for his family too and not just himself. I really hope so. The flamenco looks like a good start. Hope he does well at Skate Canada.

I think I have gotten to the point where I really enjoy TJ men's costumes. I remember at first people were talking about Shoma's costume and saying EEOOO! :disagree::noshake: But then it seemed to grow on people and became known as the leprechaun look.

Also like that TJ men aren't going with the American men trend of wearing something that looks like a bowling shirt. Or I swear some of them look in their closets and say, "Maybe I won't sell this t shirt in the garage sale. I think I'll skate in it."

:laugh2:Kinda seems like there's no middle ground! Ah, the costume drama!

There was a 10 year anniversary exhibition show at the Kansai Univ Skating Club. The three most notable figures in recent years (Takahashi, Oda, Machida) were not present but the director mentioned them in his speech. The young stars of the club were there and they all skated for the audience. Among them: Satoko Miyahara, Marin Honda, Yuna Shiraiwa, Shu Nakamura and Miyu Honda.

Most of the press (articles, interviews) has been all about Marin Honda, even with Satoko Miyahara being there. It's getting clearer that Japan is ready to crown Marin the next big star after Mao Asada; the question is whether she will meet the expectations, but the future will reveal the answer. :)

Any photos of Yamato, Satoko's butler, available yet? ;) I've gotta see it!

ETA: Satoko's new SP is La Boheme.

Koi pond :laugh2:

Last season, Mura was injured and had to withdraw from one of the CS before Skate America. I think it was Ondrej Nepela. He always seem to sprain his ankle, maybe because his jumps are huge. I think he already had a family from 3 seasons ago (mid-2013) tho.

That explains it then! I could see that his jumps were pretty awful, and I usually think of him as being a pretty decent jumper. Can you imagine skating hurt? I've had a sprained ankle and can't imagine skating on it, let alone just walking!

I haven't seen any so far. :(

She said it was a waltz so I guess it's Musetta's Waltz?

Love Musetta's Waltz. If that's the one, wonder if it's the opera-style version or the movie "Moonstruck" version. Either way, beautiful song. Very excited to see it. ETA if it's choreographed by Lori, it must be the opera style.

All I know is that it doesn't have lyrics.
