2016-17 Splits & Partner Changes

https://twitter.com/icenetwork/status/743792860147908608

Anna Yanovskaya has teamed up with Ivan Guryanov.

Not familiar with him and, going by the search I just did, Google isn't too familiar with him either!

The most recent partnership I can find is when he was representing France with Lisa Coulaud. Their ISU Bio is very bare, but here is their Stats On Ice Bio:

https://www.statsonice.com/skaterteam/Lisa/Coulaud/Ivan/Guryanov/

The positions don't look very spectacular, do they...? :slink:

I could only find one video of him, and that was with his previous Russian partner, Elizaveta Mashtakova:

http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/SJ1XuvW7QZA

Unfortunately, it is on one of those Chinese video sharing websites that take a long time to load and then buffer a lot. And I didn't have the patience to wait.

I really like Anna. She is a very good Ice Dancer, and she deserves to be competing at the top. So I hope that this partnership will prove to be fruitful.

All the best to Anna and Ivan!

I think post 2018 Canada is going to struggle a bit with V/M and W/P no doubt retiring. I don't ever see G/P on the World podium and there doesn't seem to be really good Junior teams coming up. I think the US will be in a much stronger position post 2018 with all the depth in Juniors not just with soon to be Senior teams like the Parsons and M/C but younger teams like Carreira/Ponomarenko.

G/P could be top 5 simply being Canada 1 and stranger things have been known to happen with politicking and , as the saying goes, ice being slippery. Also now that they have a compulsory to "their" credit they will earn brownie points.

SkaCan and Lane politicking are a force.

Lukas Csolley and Federica Testa had split. The mystery of GP solved. https://www.facebook.com/slovakfigu...1204584027408/680502108764321/?type=3&theater This is very sudden and suprising...

Just to expand, according to the post you linked to, Federica has retired so that she can concentrate on her studies.

Oh what a shame--I loved that team and thought they had real potential!

It is. I really liked them too. But, Federica is being sensible and thinking of her life after skating.

All the best for the future, Rika!

But, some good news has come out of this. Lucie Myslivečková is back!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points:

(As you can probably tell, I'm a fan of Lucie's! ;) )

Now, the interesting thing is that, for the past few years, Lucie has been... concenterating on her studies! (And I know - I even took part in a survey for her!)

Federica is the same age now as Lucie was when she decided to concentrate on her studies. So, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Rika could do the same - study for a few years, and then come back to skating.

Incidentally, does anybody know if Lucie's last partner, Neil Brown, is still competing?

New couple alert!!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BHufp0EAJ9Q/

Seems that Nate Barthlomay has teamed up with Deanna Stellato (I have to admit, I don't actually know who she is, but an old IceNetwork article leads me to believe that she is a former singles skater who retired many years ago and has no experience with pairs. Someone who is more familiar with her can surely confirm or deny this)

She does have pairs experience, she was a former Junior World silver medallist... In 2000. Still out of left field, but slightly less bizarre?

According to the information so far, she hasn't competed for 15 years and then may decide to return to the world...wow. :eeking:

I know Pairs skaters have a hard time finding partners but pairing up with someone who's 33 and has been retired for over 15 years and was a singles skater? Really? :scratch2:

Narumi Takahashi's new partner is also a returned skater from retirement and previously competed in single. On the other hand, he is still in 20s and 6 year away from competition is one third of what she has missed. She could be the oldest female pair skater in the 2018 Olympics. Nathan Bartholomay is currently 27, so if he is willing to do more, he could try another Olympics after 2018, so the pairing with her would not be advantageous for him in a long run.

EDIT: I did research a bit on her out of curiosity; she has been working as a beauty expert. The report that she still can jump triples is amazing though.

In all honesty, if he didn't want to stay with Donlan he really didn't have many options. While generally men have more options for partners than women, he's severely limited by his height- he's 178 cm tall (not even 5' 9" for those on that system) and really in pairs today, to do what needs to be done you need an 8 inch (20 cm) difference but that's truly an absolute minimum- more is better. Untaken girls that short are hard to come by, even in pairs.

I'm very curious and kinda thrilled about this. I'm a big fan of Nate. With both Felicia Zhang and Gretchen Donlan, he had a sort of "he-man" look and style that contrasted nicely with their romantic/balletic styles.

1. Deanna is 5 feet tall and looks even an inch or so shorter, in the picture with Nate. Since he's 5' 9", this is crucial.

2. She can jump!

3. Your comment is interesting about the long run and Nate. The long run may not, at this point, seem to exist for him. His most promising and accomplished partnership, with Felicia, lasted a scant 3 years before she quit to go to college full time. I don't know, maybe he just wants to skate while he can and not worry about the long run. Aim for a rewarding few years and then out, to coach. OTOH, who knows how long Deanna might skate pairs. We've certainly seen the age for females in pairs pushed up and up for the last several years. The article from 2010 where she mentions her old injury still hurting her sometimes is bothersome, though. When Tamara Moskvina is asked about Yuko's age (and she's certainly been plagued with injuries and will be 35 in November), Tamara always says something like, "As long as people enjoy the skating, they can continue."

It looks exciting to me!

Yes, glad if Federica is doing what's best for her. I really enjoiyed their programs last season. They seemed to have nice chemistry, too. And Lukas

But I'm glad to hear you're excited about his new partnership. i'm not faniliar with Lucie so that's good to know!

Lucie's best scores came when she was with her long term partner, Matěj Novák.

Unfortunately, I can't find videos of their absolute PB performances (CD at the 2008 Czech JGP; OD at the 2009 Junior Worlds; SD at the 2010 Ondrej Nepela; and FD at the 2010 3 Nationals).

HOWEVER, I was able to find videos for the Short Dance and Free Dance performances that earned them their ISU PB's. Both were scored at their Europeans debut, in Bern:

2011 European Championships Short Dance
2011 European Championships Free Dance

In terms of Lucie's most recent partnership with Frenchman (!) Neil Brown, here is a video of the Free Dance which scored their absolute PB together:

2013 Trophy of Lyon Free Dance

Their absolute PB for the Short Dance was scored at the same competition, but unfortunately there is no video. So, here is the performance which secured their ISU PB (it's only half a point less), from the previous season's World Championships:

2013 World Championships Short Dance

Although it was their ISU PB, that score meant they were the first couple not to advance to the Free Dance. :bang:

Hope these videos can help to familiarise yourselves with Lucie.

I'm more than welcome to any news on a new partnership in pairs as the discipline is physically so demanding and many partnerships of pair teams have been broken. I'm also curious about possibly the new partnership because that case can be a very unique example in many aspects. In many cases of significantly older female partners than their male skaters, the female skaters have a lot of experience as pair skaters and continuously compete. Therefore, if she can adapt herself into the new judging system out of the retirement for 15 years and learn new pair tricks, she will automatically get my mad respect.

I almost forgot about Yuko...I hope she will be healthy enough for earning a spot for the 2018 Olympics as she had to sit out of the latest Olympics due to injury. If she can pull off, she will be the oldest female pair skater in 2018. :)

Not a chance!

Can I just remind you about Christopher Boyadji's new partner, Zoe Wilkinson (née Jones).

Top British Ladies Singles skater in the late 90's / early 2000's. And then prevented by her own Federation from going to the Salt Lake City Olympics, despite being 2002 British Champion. So, went into retirement.

Came back to competition 12 years later as an Adult Skater, having never competed under IJS rules, and immediately cleaned up at their ISU competition in Oberstdorf. And repeated the feat the following season.

Came back to Senior level in 2015, at 35 years old, and very narrowly missed out on re-gaining the British Senior Ladies crown (she was actually declared champion, but lost it when it was realised that one of Danielle Harrison's jumps hadn't been scored). And Zoe should have been the British representative at Worlds in Boston, except she hadn't expected to be in the running, and so hadn't entered any Senior B's to try to get the minimum TES's until it was too late.

This season, Zoe will be competing in Pairs for the first time at the age of 36.

And having seen some videos on Facebook of her practicing, she looks promising! ;)

So, there is every chance that Zoe will finally get to compete at the Olympics, 16 years after she should have made her debut!

And, if she does, she will be doing so at the age of 38 (Yuko is nearly 2 years younger than Zoe).

Fair play to her!
